Burial will be at Sts. Philip and James cemetery in St. James, Nebraska. A public viewing will be on Tuesday, at church, from 5-7:00 p.m. with a Vigil service at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, at church, one hour prior to services. Face masks and social distancing are required for the visitation and funeral. Pallbearers will be her sons- Cyril, Mark, Norbert, Alan, Roger, Marlen, and Dale Pinkelman.

Jeanette Dorothy Jansen was born at home in Menominee, Nebraska on January 11th, 1934 to Henry and Anna (Klug) Jansen. She often said “I didn’t know how to be a mom” because her mother passed away of Scarlet Fever shortly after Jeanette was born. She spent the first years of her life being raised by the Steve Klug family before returning to the family home. Jeanette attended school at District 82 and one year at St. Boniface Parochial School. She married Edward Pinkelman in Menominee on November 27, 1957. Their entire married life was spent in Brooky Bottom, bringing up their family and running a sustainable farming operation. They took pride in the fact that they raised what they fed and fed what they raised.

Jeanette was a very patient, energetic and caring wife and mother. Together, she and Edward raised 15 children, making faith and Catholic education a priority. Jeanette was active in the SS. Phillip & James Church and diocese including; roles on the Parish Council, Ladies Aid, choir, Council of Catholic Women (CCW) officer, Diocesan Pastoral Council member, Archdiocesan Pastoral Council (APC) Executive member and received the Mullen Award from the Omaha Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women. Her faith was of the utmost importance to her and sustained her throughout her life. She and Edward enjoyed square dancing and ballroom dancing. Her talents included sewing clothes for herself and her children, crafts of all kinds, drawing, quilting, cake/cookie decorating and was very well known for her delicious breads, rolls, and pies. Jeanette was also a founding and extremely active member of the St. James Market Place.

Jeanette is survived by her husband of 63 years Edward F. Pinkelman, children Cyril (Paula) of Madison, NE; Mark of Wynot, NE; Sharon (Pete) Van Driel of Irene, SD; Elaine (Duane) Guenther of Crofton, NE; Norbert of Wynot, NE; Betty (Larry) Leise of Pierce, NE; Leann (Tom) Rockne of Yankton, SD; Alan of Bellevue, NE; Nancy of Omaha, NE; Arlene (Todd) Anderson of Bondurant, IA; Roger (Angela) of Omaha, NE; Jolene (Glenn) Brezack of Omaha, NE; Marlen (Emilie) of St. George, UT; Dale (Mindy) of Lincoln, NE; Renee (Kory) Kettner of New Ulm, MN; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jeanette is also survived by her brother Paul (Barb) Jansen of Omaha, NE and sister-in-law Margaret (Joe) Jansen of Overland Park, KS.

She was preceded in death by parents Henry and Anna Jansen and siblings Delores, Bernadette, Julianne, Hildegard, Ervin, Richard, Roman and Joe.

Rosemary Ann was born October 29, 1935 on a farm near St. James, Nebraska to Fritz S. and Rose H. (Imoehl) Pinkelman. She grew up in the St. James area and graduated from Holy Trinity High School in 1953. She continued to live in the St. James area until she was married to Eugene D. Wuebben on October 2, 1957 in St. James, Nebraska. After their marriage they moved to rural Bow Valley, Nebraska and then moved to St. Helena in 1995. Gene and Rosemary moved to Majestic Bluffs in Yankton, SD in 2011. Gene died on February 23, 2015 at the age of 81 years. Rosemary then moved to the Sanford Vermillion Care Center two years ago in 2016.

Rosemary was a former member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Helena and its Council of Catholic Women, Holy Family (Sts. Peter & Paul) Catholic Church in Bow Valley Christian Mothers. Rosemary loved to cook and bake, making loaves upon loaves of bread for her family. She liked to decorate Christmas cookies and even made popcorn and cookies for the kids that rode on Gene’s school bus route. She had a garden and canned much of her produce. Rosemary worked as a cook for the St. Helena school lunch program for several years. She loved to play the piano and also the accordion. Rosemary always extended her hospitality when anyone would stop by. Rosemary enjoyed her flowers and always admired her father’s ability to grow large roses.

Rosemary is survived by her seven children and their spouses, Duane and Marsha Wuebben of Bow Valley, Mary Ann and Dale Hoebelheinrich of Yankton, SD, Rosanne and Daniel Koch of Wynot, Joan and Joe Reed of Vermillion, SD, Janice and Alan Koch of Wynot, Dennis and Julie Wuebben of Bow Valley, Donna and Bruce Bollich of Fordyce; 20 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; four brothers and spouses, Edward F. & Jeanette Pinkelman of Wynot, Frederick and Carol Pinkelman of Hartington, Jerome & Charlotte Pinkelman of Wynot, Stanley & Violet Pinkelman of Wynot; sister Celestine & husband James Dvorak of Scotland, SD.

Verna Berniece Pinkelman was born on October 23, 1926 in Crofton, Nebraska to Jacob and Regina (McNally) Guenther. She grew up in the Crofton area and moved to St. James, NE when she was twelve years old. Verna worked as a housekeeper/nanny for several area families prior to her marriage. She married Alphons Joseph Pinkelman on August 10, 1949 in St. James, NE. Verna and Alphons lived south of St. James until they moved into Hartington in 1983. Verna worked as a cook at the Green Diamond in St. James for many years. She then worked as a cook for several of the cafes in Hartington. Verna’s last employment as a cook was for the nursing home in Hartington in the 1980’s. After Alphons died on April 28, 2000 Verna continued to live in her home until moving to the Golden Living Nursing Home/Assisted Living in December of 2007. She went back home in August of 2008 and then became a resident of Autumn Winds Assisted Living in December of 2009. Verna was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, Catholic Daughters of America, Hartington VFW Auxillary, Wynot American Legion Auxillary, and several card clubs. She enjoyed crafts, sewing, needle work, puzzle books, baking and cooking. She is survived by her six children and their spouses, Anita and Randy Larsen of Columbia, MO; Daniel and Audrey Pinkelman of South Yankton, NE; Diane and Eric Christensen of Omaha, NE; Karen and Ron Lammers of Hartington, NE; Norman and Penny Pinkelman of Columbus, NE; Harvey and Ann Pinkelman of Centennial, CO; 13 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 1 great granddaughter; 1 great step-granddaughter; two brothers, Jim and Bonnie Guenther of Magnet, NE; Ralph Guenther of Yankton, SD; three sisters, Eleanor and husband Dale Bergman of Coleridge, NE; Dorothy Murray of Hartington, NE; Alice Schumacher of Norfolk, NE; many nieces and nephews. There will be visitation on Tuesday morning at church one hour prior to services. Urban F. Pinkelman was born on October 14, 1923 in St. James, NE to Frank J. and Anna (Schroeder) Pinkelman. Urban was the youngest child in a family of nine. He grew up on the family farm south of St. James. He attended St. James Catholic School and District 33 country school. He never married and was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army. In 1951, he moved to Wynot with his mother and continued farming the family farm with his brother, Alphons. His mother died in 1959. Urban retired from farming in 1969. His sister, Emma, came to live with him in 1972. She died in November of 1998. Another sister, Cecelia, lived with him before moving to the Sister James Nursing Home in Yankton. Urban had been a resident of the Golden Living Center in Hartington since December 8, 2003. He loved baseball and did manage the St. James baseball team for several years. He was a member of the Sts. Philip & James Catholic Church in St. James and the Catholic Order of Foresters. Urban also belonged to the Wynot America Legion Post 31. Urban is survived by a sister-in-law, Verna Pinkelman of Hartington; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding Urban in death were his parents, 4 brothers, Fritz, Frank, Lawrence, and Alphons Pinkelman; 4 sisters, Sister Mary James Pinkelman, Emma Pinkelman, Cecelia Pinkelman, and Alma (Mrs. Melvin) Thoene.

Hitchcock Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Memorials are suggested to the Burwell AmbulanceSupply Fund. Mrs Thoene was born October 6,1916 to Frank and Anna Schroeder Pinkelman near St James in Cedar County. They farmed and ranched in the Wynot area until 1959 when they moved their family to a ranch located eight miles east of Burwell. The couple retired and moved to the park View Plaza in Burwell in 1998. She moved to the Community Memorial Health Center in November of 2000 and her husband moved to the assisted living there in May of 2001.
Mrs Thoene was a devoted wife and mother, and was especially proud of her six sons.
Mrs Thoene was actively involved with the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and its Altar Society, and was a long standing member of theMidvale Ladies Social Club, and was busy with her sons, 4-H activities as they were growing up.
Mrs Thoene was a homemaker and loved raising flowers and vegetables. She was well known for her homemade bread and jelly and always had a jar full of cookies for the grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Melvin of Burwell; six sons and four daughters-in-law, Cy and Marilyn of Ansley, Roger Thoene of Burwell, Gene Thoene of Ainsworth, Charlie and Veda Thoene, Fred and Sue Thoene, Hank and Marci Thoene, all of Burwell; 13 grandchildren and four great grandchildren; one brother, Urban Pinkelman of Wynot and one sister, Cecilia Pinkelman of Yankton, South Dakota.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Fritz, Lawrence, Frank and Al Pinkelman and two sisters, Emma Pinkelman and Sister Mary James.
