She was a political science graduate of American University and a graduate of Mercer University School of Law. In the 1980s, she began her government career as a staff attorney with the Veterans Administration. She transferred to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in 1990.

Her hobbies included antiquing and jewelry making. She did fundraising work for charitable causes, had been active in community groups in North Potomac and Gaithersburg and was a member of the Phi Delta Phi legal society. She also was a member of St. Jane de Chantal Catholic Church in Bethesda.

Survivors include her parents, John M. and Patricia Siemien of Potomac; and a brother, M. Jon Siemien of Derwood.
