Joseph William Thering
Life EventDateDescription
Birth3 June 1944Joseph William Thering was born on 3 June 1944 at Wisconsin.
He was the son of Joseph John Thering and Mary Catherine Walsh.
Marriage1966Joseph William Thering married Susan Mary Vaughan in 1966.
Death25 September 2011Joseph William Thering died on 25 September 2011 at age 67 Joseph William Thering, age 67, of Plain, passed away after a courageous fight with gall bladder cancer on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011, at the Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center in Fitchburg. He was born on June 3, 1944, to Joseph John and Mary Katherine (Walsh) Thering. He grew up in Spring Green, attending Saint John's Elementary School and was a proud member of the final class graduating from Spring Green High School in 1962.
When he was eight years old, he contracted polio but he never let that deter him from participating in physical activities, such as marching band and athletics. Later, Joseph attended classes in the accounting program at MATC. In 1966, he married Susan Mary Vaughan in Madison. They had two children, William Richard, who died shortly after birth, and Lee-Anndra Kay. His first wife died in 1970. In 1980, he married Susan Turner. They had two children, Joseph Turner and Jessica Rose.
He held employment with the Village of Spring Green, House on the Rock, and Lumberman's Supply. For eighteen years he was employed with the American Dairy Association as a bookkeeper. He was a past member of the Administrative Management Society. In 1984 he began working for Edward Kraemer and Sons in the Aggregate Division. He moved his family to Plain shortly thereafter. Plain proved to be the ideal community for raising his family. He was a member of Saint Luke's Congregation and served on the Saint Luke's Education Commission as well as serving on the board of the Friends of the Kraemer Library and Community Center.
In 1996, The Kraemer Company team honored him by selecting him as Accounts Receivable Supervisor. He valued his employment and his co-workers became his friends. The family wishes to extend thanks to the Kraemer Company for its continued support throughout his illness.
The family would like to acknowledge Dr. Sam Lubner and Dr. Clifford Cho as well as their respective teams from the UW Comprehensive Cancer Center. Gratitude is also extended to the Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Susan of Plain; children, Lee-Anndra (Mark) Thielbar of Mount Horeb, Joseph Thering of Des Moines, Iowa, and Jessica Thering of Milwaukee; granddaughter, Emily Thielbar and siblings, Jim (Linda) Thering of Spring Green; Rosemary (Scott) Pope of Arena, Jerry (Diane) Thering of Spring Green, Rob (Sue) Thering of Spring Green; "adopted" daughter, Ashley Yoerger; family friend, Chad Peters; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Joseph will long be remembered as a peaceful man who bore no prejudice and had no enemies. He used his warm sense of humor to create an atmosphere of happiness for those who surrounded him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Sept. 30, 2011, at 11 a.m. at ST. LUKE'S CATHOLIC CHURCH in Plain. Father Mike Resop will officiate with burial in the church cemetery at 2 p.m. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011, at the church from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass.
