Hanks and wife, Andrea of Albuquerque and Jerry Hanks and wife, B.J. of Albuquerque; seven grandchildren, Tracey Hanks of Bozeman, MT, Christina Tuller, Benjamin Hanks, Brian Hanks, Christopher Hanks, and Ron Hanks ,all of Albuquerque and Patrick Hanks of Bozeman, MT; and five great-grandchildren, Jonah, Sydney, Angela of Albuquerque, and Lovis and Skyler of Bozeman, MT; two great-great grandchildren, Amber and Lynk of Albuquerque. Gale was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Hanks on October 22, 2000. He was born on August 15, 1917 to John Henry and Rose Dixie Hanks, in a sod house in Harrison, NE. Gale graduated from high school in Crawford, NE. After high school he attended and graduated from the South Dakota School of Mines in Rapid City, SD where he obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Metallurgical Engineering. In 1940 he married Edith Wohlers and the young couple moved to Philadelphia, PA. From there they with their young family moved to Denver, CO. When WW II broke out, Gale was commissioned as an officer and proudly served in the Untied States Navy.. He retired from the Navy Reserve in 1969 as a Lieutenant Commander. After the war, Gale and Edith lived in both Crawford and McGill, NV, before moving to Los Alamos, NM in 1949. In McGill, Gale worked for the Kennecott Copper Mining Company and in Los Alamos he worked as an engineer for Los Alamos National Laboratory. After retirement Edith and Gale moved to Albuquerque. Gale was a story-teller, having written and published many stories about his life and experiences. He was an excellent pistol-shot. Gale loved science fiction and being an engineer, could tell you what every rock was made out of. He loved to hunt, fish, and just spend time outdoors, especially at his cabin in the Brazos near Chama where he actually spent summers for the past 30 years. Gale liked people and made friends with everyone he met. He was a loving and devoted father and grandfather and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at French ~ Wyoming Chapel, Thursday, April 1, 2010, 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. where he will be interred with his beloved Edith. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Brazos Canyon Volunteer Fire Department, HC-75, Box 92, Chama, New Mexico 87520.

Don Mathis. Burial will be at Harrison Community Cemetery.

Osback died Dec. 15, 1990, at his home of an illness of one year. He was born Jan. 30, 1924, in Harrison to Axel A. and Ida (Dehaven) Osback. The family homesteaded in Sioux County, Neb. and in 1931, they moved to Harrison and started a dairy business. Osback graduated from Sioux County High School in 1941. He served in World War II and the 147th Field Artillery.

In April 1947, he married Mary E. Broderick in Harrisburg, Neb., and they moved to Wyoming. He retired from Amoco Pipe Line in 1983 after 35 years of service. He was an avid horseman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of VFW Post No. 10677, American Legion George Vroman Post No. 2, and a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge BPOE No. 1353.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter Mrs. Bud (Ranae) Mason of Glenrock; three grandsons; and one brother Joe Osback of Sioux Falls, S.D.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials to the National Elks Foundation or Harrison Bible Church would be equally appreciated by the family.

Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

James A. Osback was born Sept. 25, 1943, in Lusk, the son of Joe F. Osback and Helen W. (Stallman) Osback.

On July 7, 1968, he married Sharon Biffar in Torrington. They lived in Scottsbluff, Neb., from 1969 to 1974, and then moved to Riverton in 1976.

Mr. Osback was a Riverton businessman, owner of the Windshield Doctor.

His family said he enjoyed cars, liked going to car shows and showing his Corvette, and loved his dog, Bud.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Sharon Osback of Riverton; two sons, Travis Osback and fianc?e Jolene of Riverton, and Jason Osback of Greeley, Colo; two grandchildren, Talon and Taylor; his mother, Helen Higgs of Riverton; his father-in-law, Jim Biffar of Fort Walton Beach, Fla; a brother, Chuck Osback and his wife Dianne of Torrington; a sister-in-law, Donna Rae Bartee of Fort Walton Beach; and three nephews, Brady Osback of Denver, Casey Osback of Carter, S.D., and David Fales of Torrington.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Osback; a nephew, Dee Fales; and his mother-in-law, Margaret Biffar.

Memorials may be made to Little Wind Hospice or to the Help for Health Bus, in care of the Davis Funeral Home, 2203 W. Main St., Riverton, WY 82501.
