Doyle Frohreich; sisters, Denise Barker, Susan Fehl, and families; stepchildren, Rock LaFleche, Sandra Rasmussen, and families; and numerous other family members in the Rogue Valley. He proudly served his community through the Evans Valley Fire District 6, and was an avid outdoorsman and Harley enthusiast. Services will be held Friday, August 5, 2011, 2:00 p.m., at the Eagle Point National Cemetery, 2763 Riley Rd., Eagle Point, Ore. A celebration of his life will be held at his sister's residence following the service, at 541 Souvenir St., Medford, Ore. Bring happy stories and smiles as Rick would have wished.

Coppy was born and baptized in rural Freeman, S.D., on June 23, 1922, to Helena and Albert Heckenlaible. In 1929, after his mother's death, Coppy lived with his grandparents, Carl and Jakobina Heckenlaible, and attended St. Paul Lutheran School. In 1941, Coppy graduated from Freeman High school where he excelled in track and basketball. On September 26, 1942 Coppy enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was sent to San Diego, Calif., for training and subsequently assigned to the U.S. Navy Armed Guard at Treasure Island San Francisco. As a gunner's mate he served in the South Pacific Theatre for three years during which time, he met his wife June. They celebrated their 66th anniversary. In 1946, June and Coppy farmed west of Freeman where he also helped drill water wells with his grandfather Karl. In 1956, the family moved to Anaheim, Calif., where Coppy was employed by the Anaheim Post Office. In 1960, he began his police career with the Anaheim Police Department as a reserve. Later, he joined the Placentia, Calif., Police Department and became the city's first detective sergeant and received many commendations. Soon after retiring from the police department, he was a special agent for Alpha Beta Markets. Copy was a lifetime member of the VFW Wilde Post #3728 and the American Legion Post #277. He was currently a member of the Sioux Falls Post #628 at the time of his passing. Coppy enjoyed collecting antiques, traveling, working on mechanical toys and steam engines. He traveled to many foreign countries and was most impressed with his participation with the South Dakota World War II Honor Flight last September. Coppy was preceded in death by his father, Albert Heckenlaible; his mother, Helena (Haar) Heckenlaible; stepmother, Lydia (Moench) Heckenlaible; son Rick Heckenlaible; brother Walter Heckenlaible; sister Irene Roth; nephew Ronald Roth; and brother-in-law, Walter Roth. Coppy is survived by wife, June; son, Glynn, Las Vegas; daughters, Alana (Darian) Liepelt, Spokane, Wash., Xina Renata, Belmont Shore, Calif., Yvette (Matthew) Kohlenberger, Placentia, Rise (Floyd Thomas) Smith, Yorba Linda, Calif., and Renee Heckenlaible, Chino, Calif; 20 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchild-ren; and one great-great grandson; and one niece, Karen Hansen, Fort Scott, Kan. The funeral was held Tuesday, April 26 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Freeman. Rev. Kent Borglum officiated with Marlene Pidde as organist and special music by Gary Pfeiffer. Pallbearers were Dion Haught, Chase Kohlenberg, Matt Kohlenberg, Logan Smith, Jordon Bean and Aaron Heckenlaible. Honorary pallbearers were Ella Hein, Elsie Hein, Phyllis Knittel, Rueben Heckenlaible, Kermit Heckenlaible, Reno Mettler, Alice Neuharth, Viella Knodel and Verna Herrboldt. Interment was at Freeman City Cemetery.
