He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle who will be deeply missed be his family and friends. Mr. Friel was a member of the Plattville United Methodist Church. Jerry proudly served in the United States Army. Mr. Friel was the very first and still serving, Mayor of Plattville, IL. Jerry is survived by his wife; Gay Friel, his children; Mark (Lisa) Friel, of Plattville, IL, and Melissa (David) Smith, of Plattville, IL, his grandchildren; Aaron Friel, of Morris, IL, Amanda, Megan and Katie (Friel), of Plattville, IL, and Joel, Amy and Ryan Smith, of Plattville, IL, his brother, Jack (Dorothy) Friel, of Yorkville, IL, as well as, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; George J. and Florence Friel, his sons; Michael Friel and Matthew Friel in infancy, and his grandson, David Friel. Friends may visit from 4:00 until 8:00 PM on Monday, June 8, 2009 at the Larson-Nelson Funeral Home, 410 E. Countryside Pwky, in Yorkville, IL. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at the Plattville United Methodist Church, 13025 Church Road, in Plattville, IL with Reverend Donna Trinko, officiating. Interment will follow in the Plattville Cemetery, in Plattville, IL. Arrangements made by Nelson Funeral Homes & Crematory.

Mrs. Friedel, a lifelong Des Moines resident, was a homemaker and a member of her church's Altar and Rosary Society and the Women's Catholic Order of Forestor's.
Survivors include two sons, Edwin of Des Moines and Lawrence of Sioux Falls S.D; two daughters, Therese Patterson of Coralville and Rosemary Kuhse of Mesa, Ariz; 17 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. today at Hamilton's Funeral Home, where the family will be present from 7 to 8 p.m., and where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to her church.
