Mary Ellen was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. She had worked at Schultz Brothers, Reedsburg Quality Hardware and Brides and Belles for many years until her retirement. Mary Ellen enjoyed doing crafts and crocheting. Survivors include her two daughters: Gloria (Alan) Burke, of Fitchburg and Susan Koz, and her fiance, Alan Bush, of Elmhurst, IL; three grandchildren: Robb (Sherri) Burke, Chad Gengelbach and Kimberly (Aaron) Bizub; two great grandchildren: Morgan and Dylan Burke; one brother: Edward Gardner, of Loganville; one sister: Marge (Bud) Meyer, of Reedsburg; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Erwin, on August 15, 1988; two daughters: Carol Ann Baumgarten in 1957 and Kathy Gengelbach in 2018; two brothers: Bob and Loran Gardner; and one sister: Evelyn Mikelson. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Reedsburg with Pastor Kenneth Schaub officiating. Interment will be at St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery in Loganville. There will be a visitation from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the service on Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery in Loganville would be appreciated. The Hoof Funeral Home is serving the family.

  • In 1880 JOSEPH BANDEL, M. D., Sec. 27; P. O. Plain; born in Wurtemberg, Germany, Sept. 21, 1830. In early life, he received an academic education, and afterward entered a medical college at Heidelberg, where he graduated at the end of five years; then was appointed a surgeon in the military service of his native country, a position he filled for nearly three years. In 1852, he came to Wisconsin, Sauk Co., which has been his home since. During the war of the rebellion, he was a soldier in Co. H, 37th W. V. I; was honorably discharged at the close of the war as Second Lieutenant. He has been Chairman of the Franklin Town Board of Supervisors four years. He is President of the Franklin Mutual Farmers’ Fire Insurance Co., a position he has filled since its organization in 1877. He was also Town Assessor of Franklin three terms. Mr. Bandel was married in Milwaukee, in 1852, to Christiana Phillip; they have ten children. He owns over 300 acres of land; his farm is pleasantly located and well improved.
