Richard Bibbero died peacefully at his home in San Rafael, CA on December 7, 2003. He was 88. Born in San Francisco, CA in 1915, Richard attended Grant School and graduated from Galileo High School in San Francisco in the early 1930's. He was a third generation native San Franciscan, an Eagle Scout in Troop 17 and a member of the Concordia Club. Richard received his Bachelor's Degree from Stanford University and his Master's Degree in Business Administration from Harvard University in the late 1930's. Following graduation, he worked in Los Angeles and then served his country during World War II. During the war, Richard served in the United States Army Air Corp earning the rank of Major. He was stationed at Wright Field in Dayton, OH, then in Washington, D.C. where he served at the Pentagon on the staff of the Commanding General of the Air Force. He was awarded the Secretary of War's Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters for outstanding work in the conduct of World War II. He married Helen Putzel of St. Louis, MO in 1944. After the war, they moved from their first home in Washington, D.C. to St. Louis and then to Grand Rapids, MI where he worked for A.S. Aloe Co. advancing to the position of assistant treasure. In the early 1950's, they settled in San Francisco following his appointment as Northern California Division Manager of the Aloe Company. In 1953 he started his own company, Medical Management Control. They raised their three children in San Francisco where they lived for over thirty years. In the early 1980's, he and Helen moved to Incline Village, NV. Following his retirement, they loved to spend much of their time entertaining their friends, traveling the world and enjoying their second home in Marin County. Richard was a professional management consultant and business owner of a number of health care related companies. He and his wife Helen founded and ran several San Francisco based family businesses including: Medical Management Control (which became Professional Management Control), a consulting firm; Med-Dent Publishing Company (which became Bibbero Systems, Inc. now located in Petaluma, CA), which manufactures and distributes records for health care professionals; Professional Sponsoring Fund, a company which financed doctors into practice; Med-Dent Investments, a firm holding licenses in real estate, health and life insurance and investment securities; and Bibbero Systems International, a worldwide distribution company. Richard spent over fifty years actively serving the health care industry on local as well as statewide and national levels holding numerous government and university appointed positions. Nationally, he received presidential appointments to serve as a member of both the National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics and the National Health Advisory Council. In California, his service included gubernatorial appointments to a position on the State Health Care Commission and appointment as Vice Chair of the Health Insurance Prepayment Committee of the state's Health Review and Program Council. Richard also held university appointments as a member on the Harvard University National Advisory Council to Health Systems Management and as Chairman of the Advisory Council in Health Services Management at Golden Gate University in their master's degree program. Richard held numerous certifications and licenses both on a state and national level as a business professional. He was the author of numerous books and articles covering subjects that help health professionals with the business aspects of their practices; the most noteworthy of those being The Bibbero System of Personal Financial Control and The Doctor's Hiring Manual. He also served as a contributing editor of both "Medical Economics" and "Dental Management" magazines. He was involved in many national business, social, political and alumni organizations including the National Society of Professional Business Consultants where he served as both President and member of the Board of Directors. He was a member of the Press Club of San Francisco, the Los Angeles Athletic Club, the Concordia Club, the Commonwealth Club of San Francisco and was a charter member of the Marin Golf and Country Club. He was active in both Harvard and Stanford alumni associations and was an active member of the Republican Party in both California and Nevada. Richard s survived by his children Richard Bibbero, Jr. (LaMoyne) of Carson City, NV; Joan Buckley (Michael) of Sonoma, CA and Nancy Cherney (David) of Novato, CA. He is also survived by his granddaughters Tiffany, Melissa, Jillian and NicoIle Buckley, and Liza Cherney as well as brothers-in-law, sisters-in- law, cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Helen Bibbero; father Sidney Bibbero; mother and step father Cornelia and Herbert Salinger, and his brother Donald Bibbero. Richard Bibbero was a vibrant man who loved his family and friends, his university and political affiliations, Stanford football, golf, traveling, studying history and politics, as well as going to the theater and symphony. He will be dearly missed by many people. Family and friends are invited to the Concordia-Argonaut, 1142 Van Ness Avenue in San Francisco on Thursday, December 11, 2003 between 2:00 and 4:00pm with a memorial service to begin at 2:45pm. Was married to Richard ("Dick") Bibbero for over 58 years. Lived together in Washington D.C., St. Louis, MO, (where they began their family), Grand Rapids, MI and settled in San Francisco, CA where they raised their three children and lived for over 30 years. They moved to Marin County in the late 1980?s and spent a great deal of time at their home at Lake Tahoe. Helen loved her family, friends, hosting events, entertaining, art, traveling and flowers. Her life included much community service and philanthropy including serving for more than 25 years as a member and officer of the Little Jim Club of volunteers for Children?s Hospital in San Francisco and later as a member of Bookworms volunteers for Marin General Hospital. She is survived by an adoring husband Richard, her children Richard Bibbero, Jr. (LaMoyne) of Carson City, NV, Joan Buckley (Michael) of Sonoma, CA, and Nancy Cherney (David) of Novato, CA. Helen is also survived by granddaughters Tiffany Buckley, Melissa Buckley, Jillian Buckley, Liza Cherney and Nicolle Buckley as well as her brothers Max, Louis and Henry. In addition, she is survived by sisters in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives. Helen was a dignified, classy lady who will be dearly missed by many people.
