Becker (Wertschnig) on April 25, 1980, at Lake Edge Lutheran Church in Madison. Ken enjoyed camping, softball, watching football, golfing, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Ken was a life member of the American Legion Donald C. Severson Post No. 501 and the Grand Marsh Snider Richardson Post No. 273. Ken served as Commander for both Posts. Ken was also a member of the Grand Marsh Lions. Ken was preceded in death by his father; his grandparents; mothers and fathers-in-law; and a brother-in-law. Survivors include his wife, Carol Sidwell of Grand Marsh; mother, Lucy Meyer of Fort Meyers, Fla; son, Matthew (Melinda) Sidwell of Washington State; daughter, Tanis (Fulton) Coley of Nevada; stepson, Jeffrey (friend, Nancy) Wertschnig of Cottage Grove; grandchildren, Shyla, Kiley, Jonathan Sidwell of Washington State; grandchildren, Liam Coley of Nevada; step-grandchild, Kati Wertschnig of Stevens Point; brother, George (Pam) Sidwell of DeForest, brother, Milton (Barb) Sidwell of North Carolina; sister, Rose Marie (friend, Bill) Worley of North Carolina; sister-in-law, Sally (Fred) Albertz of Johnson Creek, sister-in-law, Deanna (John) Pfeifer of Jefferson; brother-in-law, David (Ann) Becker of Moreno Valley, Calif; he is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was born in Watertown, WI on March 28, 1944 to Walter & Stella Becker. She grew up in Johnson Creek and was a 1962 graduate of Johnson Creek High School. She worked at American Family Insurance in Madison for over 40 years. She was united in marriage to Kenneth Sidwell on April 25, 1980.

He preceded her in death on September 22, 2013. She was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 501, in Madison serving two terms as President with her husband, Ken, as Commander. She was active in the Badger Girls State program for many years. She was a member of the Watertown chapter of the Women of the Moose. She enjoyed gardening, camping, and gambling.

She is survived by a son, Jeffrey Wertschnig, Lake Mills, a granddaughter, Kati (Billy) Wilson, Chattanooga, TN, a step-daughter, Tanis Coley, a step-son, Matthew (Melinda) Sidwell, 4 step-grandchildren, sisters, Deanna Pfeifer and Sally Albertz, a brother, David, 3 nephews, a niece, her two "cat-kids", Smokie & Callie, and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Norbert, a sister-in-law, Anne Becker, and a brother-in-law, Fred Albertz.

A celebration of life will be held at American Legion Post 501, 105 Dempsey Rd, Madison, WI 53714 tentatively on August 15 from 1 PM to 4 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to American Legion Post 501. The family wishes to thank the staff of Rainbow Hospice for the care given to Carol.

Lila was a 1949 graduate of Unity High School in Mendon and was a homemaker at the family farm south of Mendon for 30 plus years where she enjoyed canning fruits and vegetables and crocheting. She loved to travel the U.S., especially the southern and western states. She was very fond of animals, especially the dogs that she had through the years. She also enjoyed listening to Gospel music.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, John Duane Daugherty and his wife, Gayanne, of Quincy; a brother, Richard "Bud" Kasparie and his wife, Roxie, of Quincy; and a sister, Lucille Sidwell of Fort Myers, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her stepmother, Evylen.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Hunter Funeral Home in Mendon with the Rev. Thomas R. Kamprath officiating. Burial will be in Home Cemetery north of Fowler. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday.

He was born in Mendon Township, on February 20, 1926, a son of John W. and Flora M. (Worman) Daugherty. John married Lila Rose Kasparie on November 4, 1949, in Quincy, Illinois. She preceded him in death on December 18, 2005.

John graduated from Mendon Township High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII in the South Pacific. He saw action at Luzon and Mindanao in the Philippines. He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Philippine Presidential Liberation Citation and two Bronze Stars. After his service, he returned to the area and began farming. He also worked for Quincy Leather and Hardware and Quincy Compressor, retiring after twenty-four years of service. He was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Mendon, Illinois and a lifelong member of the Quincy VFW.

John’s family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Illinois Veterans Home for their excellent care.

He is survived by his son John D. Daugherty and his wife Gayanne of Quincy, Illinois; and a sister-in-law, Carol Daugherty of Quincy, Illinois. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

John was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lila; and his brothers, Lloyd, Marvin and Leland Daugherty, and his sisters, Cleo Rampley and Ruth Elston.

Graveside services will be held with Military Honors at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, July 26, 2024, at Home Cemetery, near Fowler, Illinois. Jim Dennis will officiate.
