Life EventDateDescription
Birth29 January 1966Angela Ruth Baumgarten was born on 29 January 1966.
She was the daughter of Lyle Martin Baumgarten and Lorna Shimniok.
Death28 May 2026Angela Ruth Baumgarten died on 28 May 2026 at age 60 Angela Ruth "Angie" (Baumgarten) Filip died on Thursday, May 28, 2026, after a brief illness. She was born on January 29, 1966, to Lyle and Lorna (Shimniok) Baumgarten, in Charles City, IA. She was baptized into the Christian Faith on February 13, 1966, at Cross Lutheran Church, in Charles City.

Angie had a happy childhood, filled with family, school friends, and lots of pets, (including, cats, dogs, rabbits, goldfish, turtles, chickens, hamsters, and hermit crabs). She especially loved summers visiting North Freedom, WI, on family vacations. There, she could spend time with cousins from both sides of her family, as her grandparents had farms on opposite sides of the village.

Growing up, Angie moved around a lot, as her father advanced his career. She lived in Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Kansas.

She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on May 18, 1980, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, in West Bend, WI.

She attended West Bend West High School, graduating on June 8, 1984. In high school, she was a member of the National Honor Society and loved to sing. She participated in choir and musical theater. Her “starring role” was playing Grandmother Tzeitel, in Fiddler on the Roof, her senior year.

After high school, Angie and her family moved to Iowa again, where she attended Northern Iowa Area Community College, in Mason City. She graduated on May 9, 1986, receiving an Associate of Science Business Degree. After college, she moved with her family again and settled with them on an acreage located between Gardner and Edgerton, KS. While living in Kansas, she worked in various administrative positions, for Oscillatek, Olathe, KS, A&M Products Mfg., Spring Hill, KS, and Shade Foods, Gardner, KS, over the years.

Also, while living in Kansas, Angie became an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan. She was a season ticket holder for more than 20 years. No one yelled more loudly, or rooted more passionately for the Chiefs than she did. Somehow, she even managed to make a cameo appearance in the opening credits of ABC’s Monday Night Football, sporting a Chiefs headdress on her head and their colors, as warpaint, on her face.

In 1999, several years after the death of her mother, she decided to move back to her beloved Wisconsin. She accepted a position at Foremost Farms Corporate Office, near Baraboo, and left the plains of Kansas behind.

Angie bought a 125 year old house, in North Freedom, and had it completely renovated. While she was living there, she met the love of her life, Daniel J. Filip. They were married on October 14, 2000, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Baraboo, the same congregation where her parents were married in 1961.

Angie and Dan enjoyed many years of vacations and trips, mostly traveling out west and down south. She particularly loved hiking in the mountains of Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana.

A forecast of summer rain would often lead Angie and Dan to chase thunderstorms, especially at night, with the dogs in the back seat, their heads sticking out of the car windows.

Angie also liked the occasional fishing trip with Dan, often out-fishing her husband/guide.

In 2007, they bought the land that was once the farm of Angie’s grandparents, where her dad grew up. In 2018, Angie and Dan built a huge metal shed on that land, where they enjoyed many cookouts and campfires, and everyone was welcome. The property gave them the opportunity to raise registered black angus cattle, her pride and joy. Angie enjoyed the camaraderie of working with her farmer cousins, whom she loved.

She was the president of the Diamond Hill HCE Club, of which her grandmother was a charter member. Angie was a member for 24 years. It would be only natural, as a member of the Diamond Hill Homemakers’ Club, that she was an outstanding cook and baker. Her large collection of Taste of Home cookbooks was an extension of her culinary interests.

After working for over 20 years at Foremost Farms Corporate Office, Angie transitioned to working at Mueller Sports Medicine, in Prairie du Sac, a company she truly loved. She enjoyed interacting with her co-workers and clients. It was always exciting to see which athletic programs and professional sports teams were Mueller clients.

In 2025, Angie and Dan celebrated 25 years together, as husband and wife.

Of all that God blessed her with, over the course of her 60 years on this earth, Angie never lost focus on what was truly important. Christ came first, and foremost, in everything she did.

Angie is survived by loving husband, Dan; sister, Pamela (William) Domeier; in-laws, Don and Jan Filip; brother-in-law, Scott Filip; as well as many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lyle and Lorna Baumgarten; as well as dear friend, Tammy Jackson Swessel.

A funeral service will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Rock Springs on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place at Kingston Cemetery in Merrimac on Wednesday at 2 p.m. The Redlin-Ertz Funeral Home is assisting the family.
