Myron graduated from Turtle Lake High School in 1952 and shortly after joined and served in the United States Navy on the USS Albany. He was honorably discharged following a fire at the family farm.

He was married in Salem Lutheran Church, Barron on July 16, 1960 to Barbara Balog who preceded him in death on February 2, 2019.

He was a hard working man, and diligently farmed his land with his father and later with his brother until his retirement. His retirement was filled with "stories" and coffee at the Twin Town Store. Myron was quick to make friends wherever he went. He enjoyed collecting International Tractors; as well as his collection of two old cars.

He valued his faith, family and friends above all else. You could not have found a better man to call Dad, Pops, or friend. He will be deeply missed by all who had the honor to know him.

He is survived by children: DeAnn (Charlie) Nelson of Cumberland, Dawn (Joe) Greene of Turtle Lake and David (Louise Pavlusky) Elfers of Bloomer; grandchildren: Jeremy (Betsy) Henck, Alicia (Jordan) Myers, Noah Greene, Colin Elfers and Cody Elfers; great grandchildren: Rylan, Emma and Olivia; brother, Romaine Elfers of Almena; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Myron was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; parents, Otto and Hulda Elfers; and sister, Shirley Sollman.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, November 6, 2021, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Almena with Pastor Preston Paul officiating. Burial will be in St. Matthew Cemetery. Pallbearers are Mike Elfers, Jeremy Henck, Noah Greene, Colin Elfers, Cody Elfers, and Jordan Myers. Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Nordquist and Don Peltier. Military honors accorded by Donalds-Hylkema Post #137 American Legion of Turtle Lake. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM Friday, November 5, 2021 at Skinner Funeral Home in Turtle Lake, and one hour before the service at the church.

He was born May 4, 1937, in Turtle Lake to Otto and Hulda (Bussewitz) Elfers. Romaine graduated from Turtle Lake High School in 1955.

In 1960, he was drafted into the U.S. Army for an extended tour during the Cuban Crisis. He was stationed at Ft. Bliss Air Defense in El Paso, Texas. In early 1962, Romaine began working for Merlin Molberg doing general construction. In the early 1970's, he bought into the family farm and worked there until 1991. After the auction, Romaine went back to working in construction; this time for Northwest Builders of Rice Lake as a carpenter. He retired in 1999 but realized he could not sit still, so he went on to work three more years.

Romaine was an active member of his church, working on many carpenter projects with his friend Bill Schradle. He volunteered at the Yours, Mine & Ours Thrift Store in Rice Lake. Romaine loved his family, fishing, hunting and going on walks.

He is survived by his sons, Steven (Denise) Elfers of Almena, and Michael (Brenda) Elfers of Rice Lake; daughter, Lisa (Glenn) Mevissen of Somerset; nine grandchildren: Jacinda, Alexander (Sophia), Paula (Patrick), Brittany (Josh), Austin (Cassandra), Kayla (Ben), Miranda, Anthony (Lynn), and Alexis; 12 great grandchildren; and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Hulda Elfers; brother, Myron (Barbara) Elfers; and sister, Shirley (Richard) Sollman.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Thursday, July 11, 2024, at Zion Lutheran Church, Turtle Lake, WI with Rev Steve Miller officiating. Burial will be in Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Spooner, WI. Pallbearers are Dave Elfers, Colin Elfers, Cody Elfers, Anthony Elfers, Noah Greene, Jeremy Henck, and Alexander Elfers. Honorary pallbearers are Bill Schradle, Harland Becker, and Carl Kleinschmidt.

Visitation will be from 4-7 PM Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at Skinner Funeral Home in Turtle Lake, and one hour before the service.

She worked at the Bank of Turtle Lake for several years, in addition to working on the family farm. She was married in Turtle Lake, WI on December 3, 1960 to Richard Sollman who preceded her in death on September 7, 2015. Shirley went to work at the ASCS office in Barron, then for many years as an Aid at Cumberland Healthcare until her retirement.

She was very involved in the community, including the Moon Lake Threshermens' Association, her church, card club at Moon Lake, but her primary focus was on her grandchildren and great granddaughters. This time of year she kept busy singing with the Wapogasset Dinner Theatre and was looking forward to another gun deer season. Shirley enjoyed baking and canning all of what Richard grew in their large garden.

She is survived by her daughter, Roxanne (Mike Seiser) Knutson of Dallas; her son, Scott (Shelly) Sollman of Turtle Lake; 2 grandchildren: Ashley (Bill) Gausman of Baldwin and David (Kristi) Sollman of Almena; great granddaughters: Evie and Emma Gausman; brothers: Myron (Barb) Elfers and Romaine Elfers, both of Almena; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church - Turtle Lake with Pastor Steve Miller officiating. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery. Pallbearers are Tim Sollman, Bill Schradle, David Elfers, Bill Gausman, Brian Leisz and Steve Scribner. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Monday at the Skinner Funeral Home in Turtle Lake and for 1 hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.

He married Shirley Elfers at Turtle Lake on Dec. 3, 1960.

Richard worked for AMPI, Turtle Lake Co-op, Foremost Farms and spent some years as a carpenter, all the while farming on his own and later with his son.

He was a lifelong member of the Moon Lake Thresherman's Association, and had just played a large role in their annual event.

Richard enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, riding ATV, making wood and nearly any outdoor activity. He was also a lover of farm and domestic animals.

He took coffee almost every day at Twin Town and played cards at Moon Lake Tavern on Tuesday nights. Richard's primary hobby was spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son Scott (Shelly) of Turtle Lake; a daughter Roxanne Knutson of Dallas; grandchildren Ashley (Bill) Gausman of Baldwin and David Sollman (Kristi Thompson) of Almena; a sister Lorraine Coulombe of Turtle Lake; a brother George (Harriett) of Clayton; as well as nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

A Mass of Christian burial was held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, from St. Ann Catholic Church, Turtle Lake, with Father Tom Thompson officiating and burial at St. Ann Cemetery. Pallbearers were Tim Sollman, David Sollman, Bill Gausman, Tom White, Todd Nelson and Craig Hohlfeld.

Barb was recruited by Fred Van Sickle while still in high school to work as a legal aid in his law office. She later worked in the law offices of Dan D'Amico and John Santerre. She was married at Salem Lutheran Church in Barron on July 16, 1960 to Myron Elfers. After they started their family, Barb made a home for Myron and their children. She taught Sunday School at Zion Lutheran Church in Turtle Lake for 15 years. Later, she was Clerk for the Township of Turtle Lake for 23 years. Barb served on the Board of Directors for Barron Hospital and also worked in the Barron County Register of Deeds office until retirement at which time she became Village Treasurer of Almena. Barb liked to sew, bake and tend to her garden, especially her Geraniums and raspberry patch. Barb was also the neighborhood grandmother.

She is survived by her husband, Myron; children: DeAnn (Charlie) Nelson of Cumberland, Dawn (Joe) Greene of Turtle Lake and David (Louise Pavlusky) Elfers of Bloomer; grandchildren: Jeremy (Betsy) Henck, Alicia (Jordan) Myers, Noah Greene, Colin Elfers and Cody Elfers; great grandchildren: Rylan, Emma and Olivia; siblings: Margaret "Peggy" Olson of Prairie Farm, Ann Losness of Fridley, MN and Carole Kuhl of Almena; many nieces, nephews and other relatives. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Voelker of Route 1, Cameron, and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harris Haase of Turtle Lake. The couple will live in St. Paul. Rev. Gerhart Rusch performed the ceremony before an altar flanked with baskets, gladioli and candles.

About 250 guests attended the ceremony and reception. The bride wore gown of Chantilly lace over satin, fashioned floor length with a fitted bodice and long sleeves. She wore a silk veil and carried a bouquet of pink and white roses and carnations. The groom's sister, Miss Ila Mae Haase, of Turtle Lake, was maid of honor. Miss Adeline Voelker, sister of the bride, and Miss Ruth Schulz of New Hampton, Iowa, were bridesmaids.

Becky Raymond was flower girl. Best man was Myron Elfer of Turtle Lake. Groomsmen were Romain Elfers of Turtle Lake and Raymond Voelker of Route 2, Rice Lake. Kenneth Haase, Minneapolis, and Jerry Bunde, Rice Lake, served as ushers. A reception in the church parlors followed the ceremony.

The couple then left a wedding trip through Southern Wisconsin.
Death6 May 2007Virgil Allen Haase died on 6 May 2007 at age 73 Virgil A. Haase, 73, Rice Lake, Wis., died Sunday, May 6, 2007, at Lakeview Medical Center, Rice Lake.

He was born on April 6, 1934, to Harris and Laura (Bussewitz) Haase at Turtle Lake, where he lived from childhood through his high school years. Following his 1952 high school graduation, he moved to St. Paul, Minn., and worked at Fairway Foods.

Virgil married Carol Voelker on May 7, 1955. They continued living in St. Paul until Virgil took a job at Studebaker-Packard and moved to Bloomington, Minn.

The couple later moved back to Rice Lake and Virgil worked at Gustafson's Dairy until it closed. He then joined Farmer's Union Milk Marketing as a field coordinator and his family moved to Marshfield for five years.

Upon coming back to Rice Lake, he worked at Farm and Fleet until retirement in 1999.

Virgil was an active member of First Lutheran Church, Rice Lake.

He enjoyed and appreciated his family and friends. He will be sadly missed. The family would like to thank relatives, friends and Northwest Hospice for their care and support.

Surviving in addition to his wife are sons, Jeff (Jan) of Eau Claire and Tom (Kim) of Rice Lake; a daughter, Sandy (Rick) Kubesh of Rice Lake; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; a great-grandchild; as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ken; and a sister, Ila Mae Elfers.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 10, from First Lutheran Church, Rice Lake, Rev. Jerry Bernecker officiating, with interment at Meadow Creek Cemetery, Rice Lake.

Visitation will be held 5-8 p.m. Wednesday from Appleyard's Home for Funerals, Rice Lake, and an hour prior to services at the church Thursday. An 8 p.m. prayer service will held at the funeral home Wednesday.

Mrs. Tipton is survived by her sons: Jerry Haase and wife Joette of Tacoma, Washington, Bruce Haase and wife Terri of Puyallup, Washington, Scott Haase of Tacoma, Washington; daughters; Karen Ridenour and husband Ken 'of Jackson, Wyoming, Peggy Schummers of Santa Fe; grandchildren: Marie, Brian, Heather, Kenny, James, Aaron, Jessica and Megan; close friends, Jane and Vernion Eberhardy of Albuquerque; and numerous other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. today at Berardinelli Mortuary Chapel. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed in Mrs. Tipton's honor to V.N.S. Erickson, 56, of Cumberland died Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at home with her family by her side. She was born October 10, 1954 in Rice Lake, WI to Joseph and Lorraine (Retzlaff) Kuntz. Nancy was baptized on October 31, 1954 and later confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Turtle Lake. She was raised in the Turtle Lake area and graduated from Turtle Lake High School in 1972. Nancy graduated from the UW-River Falls with a degree in Elementary Education in 1976. She taught first grade in Shell Lake for eight years and coached varsity girls' basketball for 7 of those years. During her time in Shell Lake, she met Mark Erickson of Cumberland and they were married in Turtle Lake, WI on December 18, 1982. Together they worked to build Erickson Excavating.

Nancy was actively involved in the bookwork and organization of the business. She continued to help run the business from home while raising their children, Travis, Ami and Jordan.

Nancy was an active member of Augustana Lutheran Church, serving as church council representative, Sunday school coordinator and altar committee chair. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, watching sports, traveling, gardening and the outdoors. Nancy loved her family and was a devoted mother and wife.

She is survived by her husband, Mark of Cumberland; her sons, Travis (Rebecca) Erickson of Cumberland and Jordan Erickson of Cumberland; her daughter, Ami Erickson (Josh Swanson) of Cumberland; brother, James (Karen) Kuntz of Clayton; sister, Bonnie (Alfred) Thill of Almena and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, September 24, 2011 at Augustana Lutheran Church, Cumberland, WI with Rev. Karen Hofstad officiating. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Cumberland, WI. Pallbearers are Mark Wiest, Chris Landstrom, Alfred Thill, Brent Thill, Brian Thill and Kyle Scribner. Honorary pallbearer is Kathy Joyce. Visitation will be from 3:00 - 7:00 PM Friday at the Skinner Funeral Home, Cumberland and one hour prior to service on Saturday at the church.
