Death4 November 2011Edward L. Hess died on 4 November 2011 at age 80 Edward L. “Eddie” Hess age 80 of Plain passed away on Friday, November 4, 2011 at the Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital. He was born on September 12, 1931 the son of Jacob and Agnes (Huebsch) Hess. Ed attended St. Luke’s Catholic School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951-1953. He was a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church and the Plain American Legion Post 398. On Sept. 17th, 1960 he married Marlene Wolfe of Chaseburg, WI. He met his wife of 51 years while working on the road for Ed Kraemer & Sons, whom he worked for over 25 years. He loved to hunt, fish, watch the Green Bay Packers, carpentry and spend time with his grandchildren. Ed was kind of a quiet guy, but didn’t ever shy away from letting his opinion be known. Some may have considered him the “town patrolman”, and he took this civic duty very seriously. He was always out and about driving around, doing his usual route, which always included a stop at Larry Drea’s. Ed had several “alias”, “Griz”, “Fast Eddie”, and “the violator”. Ed’s favorite time of year was deer hunting season. Due to the way of harvesting deer, Ed was well known for his ability, speed and technique of “processing” deer. This is a tradition that his family still carries on today. He enjoyed fishing, watching the Packers and Brewers, and carpentry , but his favorite pastime was spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include: his wife, Marlene Hess of Plain, 4 children, Curt (Aline) Hess of Coon Valley, Carrie (Chris) Raught of Plain, Ron (Shawn) Hess of Plain, Ann (Brent) Winkers of Spring Green, 9 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 5 siblings, Norman (Jeanette) Hess of Madison, Rita Gruber of Green Bay, Frances Hess of Sun Prairie, Carol Nachreiner of Fond du Lac, Robert Hess of Plain, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Agnes Hess and a niece Patti. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Plain. Fr. Mike Resop will officiate with burial in the church cemetery where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Plain American Legion Post #398. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 7, 2011 at the Richardson-Stafford Funeral Home in Spring Green from 4:00 P.M.-7:30 P.M. and at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of Mass. The Richardson-Stafford Funeral Home in Spring Green is assisting the family with arrangements.
