He was born at home in the Town of Reedsburg on November 27, 1935, the son of Elmer and Edna (Schulze) Klitzke. David attended Narrows Prairie Grade School which is where he presently resides. He also attended St. Peter's Lutheran School and was a 1953 graduate of Reedsburg High School. David was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Berlin Crisis. On October 22, 1988, he married the former Kay Dreischmeier Mortimer. He was a lifelong farmer in the Town of Reedsburg and also owned his own milk route for several years. David was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and a member of the Fuhrman-Finnegan American Legion Post 350. Survivors include his wife, Kay; three daughters: Dawn (Vic) Noble, of Phoenix, AZ; DeeAnn (Matt) Persino, of Reedsburg and Dinah (Thomas) Hatfield, of Mauston; the mother of his children: Janet Wallace, of Oxford; four stepchildren: John (Karen) Mortimer, of Reedsburg; Jody (Rob) DeSmidt, of Fredonia; Jenny (Adam) Featheringill, of Elizabeth, CO and Justin (Tonya) Mortimer, of Baraboo; 18 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; three sisters: Dorothea Frank, of Laramie, WY; Ellyn Thompson, of McFarland and Evelyn Culles, of Madison; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter: Deborah Bock and his son: Duane Klitzke. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at St. Peter's Ev. Lutheran Church in Reedsburg with Pastor Paul Crolius officiating. Inurnment will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery where military honors will be provided by the Reedsburg Veterans Honor Guard. There will be a visitation from 9:30 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. on Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials to St. Peter's Lutheran School would be appreciated. The Hoof Funeral Home is serving the family.

He was an avid card player and fisherman. Survivors include his wife, LaVonne; three children: Linda (Larry) Williams, of Greenville; Kathleen Koenecke, of Baraboo and Keith (Tammy) Koenecke, of Reedsburg; his daughter-in-law: Sharon Koenecke, of Albany; eight grandchildren: Wendy (Bradd) Seegers, Richard (Erin) Williams, George (Melissa) Kalka, Kraig (Jenny) Kalka, Nathan (Jenni) Koenecke, Lucas (Amanda) Koenecke, Chad Koenecke and Kimberly (Justin) Walker; special family member: Tamara Koenecke; 15 great grandchildren; one step-great grandson; two sisters: Evelyn Skinner, of Reedsburg and Gloria Crawford, of Reedsburg; his sister-in-law: Wilma Koenecke, of Reedsburg; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. He was born on July 30,1959, in Reedsburg, Wisconsin, the son of Kenneth and LaVonne (Getschman) Koenecke. On November 10, 1979, he was united in marriage to Sharon Walker at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Reedsburg. This marriage was blessed with two children. Lenny enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting and cutting wood. He was a great cook and would often brag about that. Len canned much of what he grew in his well-tended garden. He was a Packer and Steelers fan, and collected Packer and Steelers articles and sports items. Len coached 7th and 8th grade football at Sacred Heart School, and coached Little League and softball for several years. He was a very outgoing person and enjoyed socializing with others. Lenny will be remembered as always being happy. Above all, he cherished the time spent with his family.

He enjoyed his farmette and was a very good gardener. He enjoyed playing cards, carpentry work, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Helen of Reedsburg; his mother, Glee of Reedsburg; children, Linda (Gary) Bald of Darlington, James (Sue) Tourdot of Wisconsin Dells, Jon (Sonya) Tourdot of Belleville, Mark (Denise) Budurov of Reedsburg; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; brothers, Evan (Betty), Harland (Leslie), Leo (Donna), Gary (Marcia) and Larry Tourdot all of Reedsburg; sisters, Bonnie (Gale) Walker, Joy (Jim) Greenwood, Julie (Howard) Phillips all of Reedsburg, Gloria (Dennis) Birkholtz of Sun Prairie, Brenda (Dean) David of Baraboo; brothers and sisters-in-law; many nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Leo and a sister, Elaine. He had served as a board member of the Butterfield School; was a delegate for Wisconsin Dairies; a committee member for the Sauk County A.S.C.S; a board member of the Centrol Co-op in Sauk City; past president of the Richland Equity Livestock Association and a board member and past president of the Reedsburg Equity Co-op, which later became the R & L Co-op.
