Death23 October 2003Loretta Louise Anna Marie Schaefer died on 23 October 2003 at Baraboo, Sauk, Wisconsin, at age 74 Loretta Louise Anna Marie Schrank, age 74, of Rock Springs, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003, at St. Clare Meadows Nursing Home in Baraboo following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on Feb. 4, 1929, in Reedsburg, to Edward and Rosina (Lenz) Schaefer.

She was united in marriage to Ernest Schrank on Aug. 3, 1952, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rock Springs. Loretta enjoyed sewing and craftwork. She was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Rock Springs, where she taught Sunday school for many years and taught Vacation Bible Study every year. She was active in the Altar Guild, Ladies Aid, and made the banners for the church entrance.

She is survived by her children, Steven Schrank of Rock Springs, Dennis (Carol) Schrank of Reedsburg, and Richard (Jackie) Schrank of Reedsburg; three grandchildren, Sarah, Lucas, and Tom; a sister, Alma Hutchens of Reedsburg; a brother, Wilbert (Myrtle) Schaefer of Sauk City; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ernest, on Feb. 15, 1986; a sister, Dorothy; and two brothers, Gerhardt, and Raymond.

Funeral services for Loretta Louise Anna Marie Schrank will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 27, 2003, at ST. JOHN EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH in Rock Springs with the Rev. Paul Schroeder officiating. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery, Rock Springs.

She enjoyed sewing, doing crafts, embroidery, crocheting, gardening, cooking, baking and spending time with her grandchildren. Alma was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Rock Springs. Survivors include her three children: Duane Hutchens, of Milwaukee; Alan (Trish) Hutchens, of Los Angeles, CA and Chris Heiking, of Reedsburg; seven grandchildren: Jeremy, Leah, Samantha, Carole, Hannah, Tomas and Kelly; three great-grandchildren: Brycen, Draven and Evan; three brothers-in-law: James (Valeria) Hutchens, of Janesville; Fred (Pat) Hutchens, of Reedsburg and Robert "Alan" Norwalk, of Reedsburg; her sister-in-law: Peggy Cushman, of Onalaska; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry, on February 12, 1997; two sisters: Dorothy Schultz and Loretta Schrank; three brothers: Wilbert, Gerhardt and Raymond Schaefer; her sister-in-law: Betty Norwalk and her nephew: Steven Schrank. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Rock Springs with Pastor David Karow officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Friday at the Hoof Funeral Home in Reedsburg. The Hoof Funeral Home is serving the family.

John went to California in 1850, and after a period there he returned to Potosi. He married Miss Anna Rupp, and settled on a tract of land near Dutch Hollow, and opened up a farm. The log cabin he built on this tract is still standing and occupied. He later sold this land to Anton Buckmiller and purchased a large tract of land in the adjoining town of Paris. Here he made a large farm, and raised a fine and interesting family. He died at an advanced age a gid years ago."
