Father*John William Raisler b. 30 Oct 1896
Mother*Esther Norris b. c 1905
Name TypeDateDescription
Name VariationWarren Louis Raisler was also known as Lou.
Life EventDateDescription
Birth8 October 1937Warren Louis Raisler was born on 8 October 1937 at Beach, North Dakota.
He was the son of John William Raisler and Esther Norris.
Death27 March 2009Warren Louis Raisler died on 27 March 2009 at age 71 Warren Louis "Lou" Raisler passed away March 27, 2009, at his bunkhouse east of Fairfield, from natural causes. He was the third of four boys born to John and Esther (Norris) Raisler, Oct. 8, 1937, in Beach, N.D. He jokingly called himself the "first son of Beach" after being the first baby boy born in the new hospital. From there, the family moved to Conrad before settling in Billings, where he graduated from Billings Senior High in 1955.

After high school, Lou's brother, Jack, was killed in Korea while serving in the military, so he and his other brothers wanted to serve our country in Jack's honor. Lou memorized the eye chart to assure he would pass the physical exam and be accepted in the Navy. He served with the Seabees for a short time.

Lou received a bachelor's degree from Montana State College in Ag. Business. He was an active member of the rodeo club.

In 1963, Lou married DeEtta Monforton. They had two children, John and Randy. They later divorced. Lou married Felicity Richards in 1986 and they also divorced, but remained friends until the end.

Lou spent most of his adult life working with cattle. He managed ranches in Alaska, Iowa and in the Sandhills of Nebraska. He was the second generation Norris to work on the Broken O Ranch in Augusta. He loved being at the sale ring and buying older cows which he would call "Blue Light specials." He also was interested in the genetics of composite breeding cattle with a Jersey base. In 1993, he won an award for his work in cattle genetics.

Amongst Lou's favorite things to do were taking a pack string into the Bob Marshall, fishing the Smith River, playing bridge, or shopping at the Amazing Toy Store for his grandkids! He was very social and wouldn't forget anyone. It was typical to be in any type of crowd with Lou anywhere in Montana and hear, "Hey, I know that guy." His Aunt Clara said of him many years ago that "it didn't matter if the other guy was a banker or a bum. He could be friends with anyone."

Lou also served as a camp cook for hunters up in the mountains the last few years. He could whip up a gourmet meal and sleep on the ground to boot! He even made lutefisk taste good. Ruined the pan, but it was worth it!

Lou is survived by his son, John (Lori); and grandchildren, Laina, Joel, Katrina and Jill of Kinsey. He is also survived by two brothers, Gordon (Ruth) of Wenatchee, Wash., and Richard (Karen) of La Conner, Wash. Many special cousins, nieces, nephews and friends also survive him.

Lou was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Randy; and his brother, Jack.

The family would like to thank all of Lou's neighbors and "pals" who helped him take care of his farm and whoop him at bridge regularly! He had a wonderful life and appreciated all his family and friends.

A memorial service will be held April 25, at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Fort Shaw at 10 a.m., with Pastor David O'Dell presiding. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Gorder Funeral Home of Choteau.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Montana 4-H Foundation or Agriculture in Montana Schools.
