He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1958-1961. On November 28, 1963, he was married to the former Sandra M. West. Rich began working at General Telephone. He then worked as a fire fighter at Badger Ordinance for many years until his retirement. Following his retirement, he worked for several years at the Hoof Funeral Home. Rich served as a member of the Reedsburg Fire Department for thirty-seven years. He was also a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Rich enjoyed bowling, socializing and spending time with his family. Survivors include his four children: Steven Liegel, and his wife, Deanna, of Sun Prairie, and their sons: Alex, Ryan and Zachary; Richelle (Randy) Freng, of Mauston, and her children: Randi (Darrell) Petty, Bradlee, Cody and Dylan McBee; Toni (Greg) Pierce, of Neenah, and their children: Jessica, Matthew, Meghan (Andrew) and Kayla; Lori (Jasen) Glasbrenner, of Richmond, VA, and their children: Elias, Isaiah, Erin and Alivia; his great grandchildren: Robert, Michael, Zachary, MaKenna, Mason, Selena and Angelique; his twin brother: Bill (Marcy) Liegel, of Sauk City; his sister: Monica Liegel, of Reedsburg; his sister-in-law: Allene Liegel, of Reedsburg; two nieces; other relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandy, on September 19, 2013; his sister: Theresa Liegel and three brothers: Bernie, Melvin and Paul Liegel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Reedsburg with Father David Carrano officiating. Interment with military rites will be in Calvary Cemetery. There will be a visitation from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Monday at the Hoof Funeral Home in Reedsburg where a Scripture service will be held at 7:30 P.M. There will also be a visitation from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or the Reedsburg Fire Department would be appreciated. The Hoof Funeral Home is serving the family.

    He is survived by his wife, Imelda; seven children, Duane (Bonnie) Diane Lins, David (Diane), Darrell (Vicki), Tim (Joleen), Karen (Martin) Ganser and Julie (Brad) Keith; 18 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren; a brother, Gary; four sisters, Bernadine Beck, Val Phillips, Imelda (Rich) Adelman and Lois Degener. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, a sister, and two grandchildren.

    A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. ALOYSIUS CATHOLIC CHURCH, Sauk City, at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, July 24, 2015. Burial will follow in St. Aloysius Cemetery. A visitation will be held at HOOVERSON FUNERAL HOME, Sauk City, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2015, and also at the funeral home on Friday morning from 10 a.m. until 11:15 a.m.

Survivors include her six daughters: Kathleen (Kim) Overgaard, Jeanne (John) Kast, Laurell (Scott) Cooper, Roberta Duren, Sue Ellen Phillips and Jennifer (Dennis) Littfin; nine grandchildren: Heather, Mike, Nick, Blake, Cole, Rachel, William, Sarah Jane and Sophia; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters: Bernadette Beck, Imelda (Richard) Adelman and Lois Degner; one brother: Gary (Virginia) Lins. She was preceded in death by a daughter: Nancy Phillips; son: Jeffrey; an infant son; her grandson: Nathan Kast; three brothers: Francis; Victor and Donald Lins and one sister: Evelyn Dwyer. A private family memorial service will be held at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Lime Ridge with Deacon Ron Pickar officiating. Interment will follow in St. Boniface Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to a charity of your choice would be appreciated. The Hoof Funeral Home is serving the family.

He enjoyed attending their sporting events, camping trips and relished fun times hunting and fishing. Gene is survived by two sisters, Kate (Bob) Dischler-Noreen and Rose Ann (Tom) Parslow and 2 brothers, Dan and Richard Dischler. He is also survived by in-laws; Mary Lee and Larry Anding, Mark and Therese Kolan and Roger and Lorraine Kolan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Brothers, James and Michael, along with grandparents and many other relatives, including his mother and father-in-law, Marie and Ralph Kolan, and a brother-in-law, Ricky Kolan. Gene was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, Spring Green where he served on the Building and Grounds Committee. He also served as administrator on the Prairie Sanitary District Board. He was a proud member of Carpenters Local 314, Madison, where he worked on many special projects including the Kohl Center. He was a lifelong carpenter in the area and continued to enjoy it after his retirement. Gene was a devoted family man and husband. He practiced what he believed; work hard, be there for others, accept life’s challenges and celebrate its blessings. He enjoyed conversation, appreciated friendships and loved telling stories especially of days gone by. He treasured the time he spent at “The Cabin” in Wyoming Valley in the fall during the hunting season. Gene’s family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Charles Diggs, Dr. James Huehn and the entire staff at Sauk Prairie Oncology Clinic for their compassionate and loving care of Gene during his illness. You were all very special to him. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 27, 2014 at 4:30 P.M. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Spring Green. Fr. Mike Resop and Fr. Raymond Dischler will concelebrate with burial in the church cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held on Friday at the church from 2:00 P.M. until the time of Mass at 4:30 P.M.
