    Judy was born Feb. 19, 1913, in the town of Honey Creek to Herbert and Emma (Schroeder) Hager. She married Reinhold Gehrke on Jan. 9, 1932; he preceded her in death on July 22, 2004, after 72 years of marriage. In her earlier life, she worked at McArthur’s Hammock Factory and Flambeau Plastics and enjoyed working with her husband on the farm, until their move to Baraboo. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards, crocheting, bingo and especially polka dancing and traveling.



    Judy is survived by her three children, Donna (friend, Ted) Gehrke of Madison, Audrey (Virgil) Belter of Janesville, and Robert (Katherine) Gehrke of San Antonio, Texas; seven grandchildren; seven great- grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren and five step-grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews, two cousins; and many friends.

    In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty; son-in-law, Dave Warner; one sister and three brothers.

    She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in North Freedom where the funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016, friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church; Pastor Andrew Meyer will officiate. Inurnment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in North Freedom.



    Judy was a special person to so many people and she loved you all. She was a strong, compassionate, caring and loving lady and will be dearly missed by those who knew her. We love you mother dear.

    The family extends special thanks to the staff of Our House Assisted Living and Agrace Hospice Care for their caring and loving support of our mother. Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or Agrace Hospice Care.

Fr. Brophy was born on July 31st, 1926 in Lone Rock, WI. the son of James and Nona Brophy. He attended public schools in Lone Rock and studied philosophy and theology at St. Francis Seminary in Milwaukee He was ordained to the Priesthood at St. Raphael's Cathedral in Madison, WI. by Bishop William P. O'Connor on May 26, 1956. He served as assistant pastor of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Parish, Portage; St. Bernard's Parish, Madison; St. Patrick Parish, Lodi; and Holy Rosary Parish, Darlington. He served as pastor of St. Thomas Parish Potosi and St. Ignatius Parish Mount Horeb, with the mission of Holy Reedeemer Parish, Perry, from which he retired in 1996 after 28 years as pastor. He also served the diocese as assistant director of Catholic Welfare and area vocation director for Iowa and Lafayette Counties. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday June 5th, 2002, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church. Bishop William H. Bullock was the main celebrant and Monsignor Delbert L. Schemelzer was the homilist. The following were concelebrants: Rev. Paul U. Arinze, Rev. John Urban, Rev. Arthur R. Koth and Rev. Roger H. Taylor. Fr. Brophy was buried in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Avoca next to his parents.
