He was born in Baraboo, Wis. on April 17, 1933 to Henry and Edna (Rau) Bayer. He married Ruth Krueger in Reedsburg, Wis. on May 28, 1955. He had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Ron was a 1957 graduate of UW-Madison and had worked as the Assistant Manager of the La Crosse District Social Security Administration for 32 years until his retirement in 1988. He had served on the United Way Social Planning Committee, was a member of the La Crosse Lions Club; and had presented pre-retirement planning seminars through WWTC. Ron was the 1982 recipient of the Ewell T. Barlett Humanity in Government award. He also held offices in his church and had served as financial advisor and director with the Occupational Rehabilitation Center. In addition to his wife Ruth, he is survived by two daughters, Terry (Al) Niebuhr of West Salem, Wis. and Julie (Douglas) Lawnicki of Eugene, Ore; three sons, Dr. Michael (Cindy) Bayer of Duluth, Minn., Peter (Magdalena) Bayer of Dresden, Germany and Bradley (Suzanne) Bayer of Apple Valley, Minn; nine grandchildren; sister-in-law, Betty Krueger of San Antonio, Texas; and sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Donald Thom of Hazelhurst, Wis. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant sister. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 29, at 10 A.M. from Faith Lutheran Church of La Crosse. The Rev. James T. Cumming will officiate. Burial will be in the Walnut Hill Cemetery, Baraboo, Wis. Friends may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse on Sunday from 5 until 7 P.M. and again at the Church on Monday from 9 A.M. until the time of services. Memorials may be given in Ron's name to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or Faith Lutheran Church.
