Patrick E. Joyce

M, b. 17 March 1825, d. 12 January 1915
Father*Edward Joyce
Life EventDateDescription
Birth17 March 1825Patrick E. Joyce was born on 17 March 1825 at Karrowheel, Mayo, Ireland, also reported as Mar 1828.
He was the son of Edward Joyce.
MarriageApril 1854Patrick E. Joyce married Mary Byrne, daughter of (?) Byrne and unknown (?), in April 1854 at Ireland.
Death12 January 1915Patrick E. Joyce died on 12 January 1915 at Winfield, Sauk, Wisconsin, at age 89 Patrick Joyce was born in 1825 in Karrowheel, Mayo Co, Ireland. There he grew to manhood and there imbibed the happy, contented spirit of his native sod which never left him through his long life. In April, 1854, he was married to Mary Byrne and in 1863 they emigrated to America, landing at New York City, April 11, and coming to Wisconsin a month later. They visited a short time at the Martin Byrne home and then went to Ironton. This was the lively period of Ironton's first days and for three years Mr. Joyce worked at the "furnace" for Smith and Tower who owned and operated the iron works, furnace and foundry. In 1867 they bought a farm in Winfield where they lived until after the death of Mrs. Joyce. Two years ago Mr. Joyce came to this city to make his home. His death came after an illness of a week. He is survived by two children, Martin Joyce and Mrs. F. P. Daly and by seven grandchildren. Mr. Joyce was a man who never amassed much wealth but by strict honesty, kindly courtesy and never failing good nature made a place for himself in the hearts of neighbors and acquaintances. Contentment was his great virtue and his genial nature made him a man of many friends. He bore his ninety years with surprising ease, never having accepted the American habit of hurry and worry. Here in Reedsburg, he spent two happy years, the constant companion of his tiny grandson, Patrick Daly. The two were familiar to many as they played together in the park. The understanding and comradeship between the man of ninety and the boy of two seemed the greatest joy of both, and this peaceful closing of a peaceful life was most fitting.1
Burialafter 12 January 1915He was buried after 12 January 1915 at Winfield Catholic Church, Winfield, Sauk, Wisconsin.2
