He was born Oct. 18, 1888, in Marion, Kan., the son of August C. and Anna Frahm Klemme. He came to Plymouth county at the age of 11 years. He lived and farmed west of Merrill until moving to LeMars in 1963.

His marriage to Anna Margaret Ohlrichs took place Feb. 16, 1911, in Johnson township, rural LeMars. Mr. Klemme was a deacon of St. Paul Lutheran church, rural LeMars, for many years. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in February this year.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran church in Johnson township, rural Merrill. Rev. Olaf I. Rossing will officiate and burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran cemetery, Johnson township, under direction of the Mauer funeral home.

Survivors are his wife, Anna, LeMars; two daughters, Mrs. William G. (Ella) Utesch, Akron, and Mrs! William C. (Pearl) Toel, LeMars; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two
sisters, Mrs. Lloyd (Clara) Bate, Peotone, Ill., and Mrs. Matt (Eleanor) Koch, Bloomington, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Roy C. Klemme and Reinhardt Klemme, and two sisters Emily and Edith.

The former Anna Ohlrich was born March 11. 1891, in Plymouth County to Fritz and Dena Stafford Ohlrich. She married Edwin W. Klemme Feb. 12,1910 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, rural Merrill where she was a lifelong member and a member of the Indies aid.

She is survived by a daughter, Ella A. Utesch of Akron; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter, Mrs. William (Pearl) Toel; three brothers, Henry, John and Herman and two sisters, Mary Herzberg and Kate Herzberg.

Her first husband, Harry A. Schroeder, whom she married August 22, 1923, died in 1947. Her second husband, Lloyd E. Bate, whom she married Jan. 31, 1954, died Jan. 22, 2001. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Lyle Carstens of Peotone; one son and daughter-in-law, Milan and Bobbie Schroeder of Peotone; one stepson and daughter-in-law, Don and Lorna Bate of Peotone; one stepdaughter and son-in-law, Alice and Harry Deboer of Lansing; five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; 7 stepgrandchildren and 17 step-great-granchildren. Three brothers and three sisters are deceased. Mrs. Bate was a member of the church choirs for 75 years, Sunday School and the Women's Fellowship at her church. She was also a member of the Peotone American Legion Auxiliary and the Eastern Star.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron, with the Rev. Jean Morse officiating. Private graveside services will be in Preston Township, St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 2 to 8 p.m. today at Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron. Ella Anna Utesch was born Jan. 30, 1912, in Merrill, Iowa, the daughter of Edwin A. and Anna (Ohlrich) Klemme. She attended Johnson Township School. She married William "Tud" Utesch on Feb. 12, 1929, in Merrill. He preceded her in death on March 24, 1987. The couple farmed their entire lives until they retired and moved to Akron. She was a housewife and farm wife. She worked for several years at the care center in the craft room. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she was active in the Women's Aid. In her free time, she loved crafts, crocheting and knitting during which she made several lap robes for the residents of the care center. She is survived by a daughter and her husband, Lorraine and Jud McDougall of St. Louis, Mo; three grandchildren, Pamela and her husband, Robert Danneman, of St. Louis, David W. McDougall and his wife, Denise, of Atlanta, Ga., and Beth Malm of St. Louis; and five great-grandchildren, Kevin Danneman, Alexander McDougall, Kelsey McDougall, Lauren Malm and Melissa Malm. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William "Tud" Utesch; and a sister, Mrs. William (Pearl) Toel. Pallbearers will be Randy Plueger, Bob Utesch, Jim Utesch, Walt Wendel, Roger Utesch and Jay Toel. Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Utesch, Steve Utesch, Chuck Utesch and Ed Utesch Jr.

"Tud" Utesch, 81, of Akron, died Tuesday (March 24, 1987) in his home after a long illness. Services were held at 1:30 p. m. Friday in St. John's Lutheran Church in Preston township, rural Akron. The Rev. Robert Kruempel officiated. Mrs. Wm. Van Buskirk, organist accompanied the congregational singing. Burial was in the church cemetery under the direction of Schroeder funeral home of Akron. Honorary pallbearers were. Marvin Buhman, Armond Halweg, Ron Toel, Jay Toel, Robert Utesch, Varold Voss, Daryl Klemme, and Randy Plueger. Active pallbearers were Lowell Utesch, Merlin Utesch, Edward Utesch, Jr., Jim Utesch, Randy Utesch, Chuck Utesch, Steve Utesch, and Steve Kilstrom.

Mr. Utesch was born Nov. 3, 1905 to Paul and Louise Jans Utesch in Merrill. He married Ella Klemme Feb. 12, 1929 in Merrill. The couple farmed in the Akron area all their married life and retired to Akron in 1965.

Survivors include his wife, Ella of Akron; a daughter, Mrs. Jud (Lorraine) McDougall of St. Louis, Mo; one sister, Mrs. Al (Myrtle) Doering of Merrill, three grandchildren, Pamela Danneman, David McDougall, and Beth Malm; and a great-grandson, Alexander William McDougall.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Edward and Charles; and two sisters, Mamie and Minnie.

Mrs. Toel, the former Pearl E. Klemme, was born Aug. 11, 1916, in Plymouth County. She married William Toel on June 18, 1941, in rural Merrill. She was Plymouth County resident all her life.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Ronald of Palatine, Ill., and Jay of Le Mars; two daughters, Mrs. Leonard (Norma) Keahi of Merrill, and Mrs. Fred (Judy) Schiefen of Le Mars; her mother, Mrs. Anna Klemme of Le Mars; one sister, Mrs. William (Ella) Utesch of Akron; and two grandchildren.

Death17 October 1993William Carl Toel died on 17 October 1993 at age 76 LE MARS, Iowa—William C. Toel, 76, of Le Mars died Sunday, Oct. 17, 1993, at his residence.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Grace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Larry Fett officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery, Le Mars. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Thursday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home.

Mr. Toel was born Feb. 7, 1917, in Akron, the son of Bernard H. and Anna M. (Borchers) Toel. He married Pearl Klemme June 18, 1941, in rural, Merrill. She died Sept. 5, 1986. A lifelong Plymouth County farmer, he retired and moved to Le Mars in 1980. He married Viola Nelson in 1988 at Cherokee.

Mr. Toel was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Le Mars. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.

Survivors include two sons, Ronald Toel and his wife Donna of Winthrop Harbor, Ill., and Jay Toel and his wife, Mary of Le Mars; two daughters, Norma Keahi and her husband, Leonard of Merrill and Judy Schiefen and her husband, Fred of Le Mars; two sisters, Agnes Ebert of Granville and Leona Osterburhr of Le Mars; and five grandchildren, William Toel, Chris and Tony Keahi and Ted and Tonya Schiefen.
