Marriage13 March 1896He married Ovidia Nordgaard, daughter of Johan Otte Torrisen and Anne Birgette Andreasdatter, on 13 March 1896 at St Peters Lutheran Congregation, Vermillion, South Dakota, also reported as Rosine Norsk Evangelisk Luthersk Menigheg (Roseni Lutheran Congregation), Union county, South Dakota.

Death5 April 1946Lars Olsen Lykken died on 5 April 1946 at from a blood clot, Chicago, Cook, Illinois, at age 78 "He was visiting with John in Chicago, Illinois when he suffered a stroke and died on April 5, 1946". Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery is one of four adjacent cemeteries located along the north side of Union County's 298th Street, located one mile south of highway 46 and about a mile and a half east of Beresford's Third Street. Of these four, Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery is the cemetery located second farthest from the east. The other three adjacent cemeteries are (from west to east) St. John Cemetery, Beresford Cemetery, and Beresford Memorial Park. Of the four cemeteries, St. John Cemetery is the only one marked by signs which are visible from the road, which can be a source of confusion to visitors who do not live in the area. The lack of marked boundaries between the four cemeteries make them appear as one large cemetery; and, the four cemeteries are known collectively and less formally as "the City Cemetery."2
Burialafter 5 April 1946He was buried after 5 April 1946 at Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery aka Beresford Cemetery, Beresford, Union, South Dakota.2

From LuIda Abrahamson (3/2015): Grandma was passed from one family to another for her earlier years, since her father died before she was born and her mother died at her birth. When a very young age she was kidnapped by gypsies, and served as a slave girl. After a number of years, she was rescued by the Salvation Army. My great grandpa (my mom's grandpa) needed someone to help his wife with their family.
This is how grandma Ovidia came to America. She had no means other than being an indentured servant and to work off the cost of her trip here. While working for Great grandma in the late 1800's, she and my grandpa (her sponsor's son) fell in love. This was a disgrace to his family, as they had sent him to "college" at Vermillion. His family never truly accepted her. It was a disgrace to think their first-born married an indentured servant with no known relatives except a brother named Albert.

In South Dakota there were many people from Byneset that owned farms, among them Ole Johnsen Løkken. He traveled among several people from Byneset with wagons pulled by bulls in 1871 to take themselves land. This could happen by selecting an area and live there a specific period. Then they got necessary property contracts, or by paying a specific amount to get the right to own the property. But it was one condition, and that was that the people that would take the land could declare that it had necessary sources of water on the property. Usually the money was used to get the necessary equipment to start running the farm. Most of them had to work up their right to own the property; also Ole Johnsen Løkken did this. He had arrived to build up a new home together with his wife. A "crawl-in" was built in shelter from a hill, and a place to sleep was made of timber. The equipment was thrifty. The trunk with the food supplies was opened and the lid was used as a dining table. But water was not yet discovered in such amount that this was enough for a farm. But a heavy shower arrived one night and the water came in to the poor house and a great pond of water was made on the floor in front of the bed. Løkken said that this had to be enough to declare that the farm had enough water (to be registered as a farm). The district had no trees and there was not a bird to see. They used dried manure as fuel. It gave little warmness and it was often necessary to eat with the mufflers on when it was cold weather. One winter day two neighbors went with wagons pulled by bulls to try to find wood by the Missouri river where there were forests. When they had traveled far they discovered a black spot in the horizon. They thought that a blizzard was coming and they turned around, trying to reach a house to get shelter. The bulls did seem to understand what was coming and no one had seen the bulls running like they did this time. They managed to reach a house just before the blizzard came over them. When the weather become better they did go home to their own farms and to their worried families. (Page 357 in the local history book.)
Ole came to America at the age of twenty-eight and first settled in Sioux City, Iowa in 1871. The following year, he homesteaded on the farm which was later operated by his son, Isaac Lykken. After proving up, Ole worked on the Missouri river for a year before returning to farm on his homestead. He retired a number of years before his death.

Per Historic Homes And Institutions And Genealogical And Personal Memoirs Of Chester And Delaware Counties: Robert Taylor was a Quaker who suffered religious persecution on account of his adherence to the doctrines of George Fox and failure to observe the ordinances of the established church of England.

Robert Taylor, of Little Leigh, in the County Palatine of Chester, husbandman, purchased from William Penn 1,000 acres of land in Pennsylvania, 3 March 1681. Robert Taylor emigrated in 1682. His wife, Mary, of Clatterwitch in Cheshire, and children came the following year. Of the land purchased in England, a tract of four hundred acres was surveyed 11 November 1682, on Crum Creek, in Springfield Township. The remainder land was located on Darby Creek, Marple Township. Robert Taylor and his family settled on the Springfield tract and on this property he died in 1695.
