Death1 January 1941Severt S. Sommervold died on 1 January 1941 at age 84 Sivert Sommervold was born March 31, 1856, at Orkedalen, Norway. His parents were Sivert and Johanna Sommervold. He was baptized and confirmed in Orkedal church. He came to America together with his parents and brothers and sisters in 1877. They came first to Sioux City, and then almost immediately to Union county and the vicinity where he since lived.

The steamboats plying up and down the Missouri river offered all opportunity for the early pioneers of this community to supplement their scant income by taking jobs on these boats. This was also about the first work Mr. Sommervold engaged in after coming to this country.

April 12, 1890, he was united in marriage to Miss Marit Esp, his wife, who now survives him. The ceremony was performed by the pioneer pastor, Rev. G.L. Graven. They were thus privileged to celebrate their golden wedding last April 12. They at once devoted themselves to farming. For the last 38 years they lived on the present homestead. This union was blessed with ten children. The family circle was never until now broken by death.

Mr. Sommervold's membership in Roseni congregation dated from its earliest years. He was a member for more than half a century. He saw his community develop from its early beginnings to what it is today, and made no little contribution to its progress.

Mr. Sommervold was actively engaged in farming until the last few years. A lingering illness brought his life to a close on New Years’ Day, at about 10:00 a.m. He thus attained the advanced age of 84 years, 9 months and 1 day.

He is survived by his wife and the following 10 children: Sivert Jr., Alcester; Alfred, Akron, Ia; John, Alcester; Hilda, Mrs. Elmer Klemme, Akron, Ia., Johanna, Mrs. Adolph Eggen, Alcester; Sarah, Mrs. Roy Abraham, Akron, Ia; Ludvig, Grand Park, Ill; Esther, Denver, Colo; and Martin, Akron, Ia; also 25 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, John, of Alcester, and two sisters, Mrs. Johanna Sveeggen, Alcster, and Mrs. Ellen Berg, Aurora, Ill. One sister, Paulina, Mrs. Hans Anderson preceded him in death.

Funeral services were conducted at Roseni church Monday, January 6, Rev. M.O. Ensberg officiating. A host of relatives and friends crowded the church. Six of the grandsons served as pallbearers. Vocal duets were sung by two granddaughters, Mrs. Newton Wevik and Mrs. Judin Solbue and by Rev. and Mrs. M.O. Ensberg. Internment was made in Roseni Cemetery.1

Death30 December 1948Marit A. Asp died on 30 December 1948 at age 80 Mrs. Marit Sommervold, daughter of Andrew and Helle Asp, was born Dec. 2, 1868, at Bynasset, Norway. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church of Norway. In 1889 she immigrated to America and was employed for some time at Sioux City. April 12, 1890, she was united in marriage to Sivert Sommervold by Pastor G. L. Graven, the pioneer pastor of Roseni Lutheran congregation. They established their home on a farm south of Nora where they lived approximately 10 years. From there they moved to their own farm which has been her home for 48 years. She passed away Dec. 30, 1948. Mrs. Sommervold was a member of Roseni Lutheran congregation and also a member of the Roseni Ladies Aid. Her membership at Roseni dated back to the very early years of that congregation. She was a quiet and unassuming woman. She worked hard, experienced many hardships and faithfully cared for a family of 10 children. Her children will always cherish memories of her as a loving, kind and patient mother. Even though trials and hardships were many, she always made it possible for her children to attend Sunday school, parochial school, and to receive the regular instruction in preparation for confirmation, thus giving her children the opportunity to he taught the Way of Life and to discern between right and wrong. Mrs. Sommervold was always well and active until April, 1948, when she began to fail in health. Her physical condition grew worse and suffering increased. Her suffering came to an end early in the morning of Dec. 30, reaching the ripe age of 80 years and 28 days. At the time of her death her 10 children were at her bedside. She was preceded in death by her husband Jan. 1, 1941. She is survived by ten children: Sivert, Alcester; Alfred, Akron; John, Alcester; Hilda, Mrs. Elmer Klemme, Akron; Sigvald, Akron; Johanna, Mrs. Adolph Eggen, Alcester; Sarah, Mrs. Roy Abraham, Akron; Ludvig, Elk Point; Esther, Denver, Colo; and Martin, Akron. Also 29 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Anna Kjoren of Trondheim, Norway, and two nieces, Mrs. Peter Iverson and Mrs. Marit Haarberg of Chicago. Six of her grandsons were the pall hearers; Marvin Sommervold, Arlo Sommervold, Morris Sommervold, Arnold Klemme, Milo Eggen and Darel Sommervold. Funeral services were held from the Sommervold home on Monday, Jan. 3, and from Roseni Lutheran church, Pastor B. F. Molstre officiated. His text was Isaiah 42.3. At the services at the Sommervold home, Marvin Sommervold and Judine Solbue sang two songs 'It Is Well With My Soul," and 'Good Night and Good Morning.’ At the church, Roseni choir sang 'Nearer My God to Thee,’ and Roseni male quartet sang: ‘Safe in the Arms of Jesus.’ Interment was made at Roseni Lutheran cemetery.

Le Mars Semi Weekly Sentinel October 7, 1910 - Edwin Klemme and Anna Bubs marriage announcement
Death8 April 1933Edwin Klemme died on 8 April 1933 at LeMars, Plymouth, Iowa, at age 46 Edwin Klemme, a well known farmer of Preston township and a son of Mr. and Mrs. August Klemme, of this city, passed away quite suddenly at LeMars, Saturday afternoon, April 8, 1933, of hemorrhage of the brain, aged 46 years, 6 months and 10 days. Mr. Klemme had gone to the county seat with his cousin, Alex Klemme, Saturday afternoon on business. After parking their care on the street there, he told his cousin he did not feel very well and would sit in the car while he did some trading. Shortly afterward he got out of the car and went into a store, where he was taken violently ill. A doctor was hastily called, but before his arrival Mr. Klemme expressed a desire to be taken to the office of Dr. J. Johnson, a chiropractor. He was taken there and given aid by Dr. Johnson, Dr. G.A. Mauer and Dr. W. W. Larsen, but failed to rally. Although suffering from violent nausea, he summoned sufficient strength to indicate to the doctors he was undergoing severe pains in his head and neck. He suddenly collapsed and passed away in a few minutes. Edwin Klemme was born September 28, 1886, on his parents farm in Preston township, Plymouth County, Iowa, and resided there all his life. He was baptized and confirmed in the Preston Township Lutheran Church. On September 29, 1910, he was united in marriage with Miss Anna bubs, of Union county, S.D., and two sons and one daughter, Walter, Lulu and Erwin came to bless this union. A man of sterling character and industrious habits, a kind and devoted husband and father, son and brother, a valued and helpful neighbor and friend, he held the high esteem and respect of a wide circle of acquaintances. Besides his widow, three children and his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Harry and Alfred Klemme, both of Akron vicinity. One sister and one brother preceded him in death. The community tenders its sincere sympathy to the relatives so suddenly and sadly bereaved. After a brief service at the home, the funeral was held Wednesday afternoon in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron, where a large concourse of relatives and friends gathered to pay a final tribute of respect. The scripture reading and prayer was by Rev. W. E. Smith, of the Plymouth Presbyterian Church. The sermon was by Rev. C. W. Samuelson, whose text was from Deuteronomy 29:29. The singing was by a quartet comprised of Louise Anfinson, Lulu Claassen, Waldon Johnson and Russell Hultgren. Interment was in Plymouth Presbyterian church cemetery in Johnson township. Relatives from a distance in attendance at the funeral were: Wm. Hinrichs, Ernest Hinrichs, Chas. Klemme, Vernon Boshner, and Ernest Schrage, of Crete, Ill; Mrs. Art Rehborg, Wallace Frerichs and Gilbert Rehborg, of Harris, Iowa. -----------------------------------
Edwin Klemme, aged 46, life long resident of Plymouth County, and well known farmer in Preston township, expired suddenly while in LeMars on Saturday on business. Mr. Klemme was accompanied by a cousin, Alex Klemme. On arriving in town after parking their car, Mr. Klemme told his cousin he did not feel very well and would sit in the car for awhile. A few minutes later Mr. Klemme went into the Sieverding-Walz store where he was taken violently ill. An emergency call was sent for a doctor. While awaiting the arrival of a physician, Mr. Klemme expressed a wish to be taken to the office of Dr. J. Johnson. He was given aid by Dr. Johnson, Dr. G. A. Mauer and Dr. W. W. Larsen, but failed to rally. On entering the office of Dr. Johnson, he was in a serious condition. After vomiting violently, he had strength enough to indicate to the doctors that he was suffering from pains in his neck and head. He collapsed and died in a few minutes.
Mr. Klemme was born and lived in Plymouth County all his life. He is survived by his wife, who before her marriage was Miss Bubbs, of Spink, S.D., and two sons, Walter and Erwin, and a daughter, Lulu. He is also survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. August Klemme, of Akron, and two brothers, Harry Klemme, of Chatsworth, and Alfred Klemme, of Johnson township. He was a nephew of Henry Buehre residing at 121 Fourth Avenue SW, this city.
The funeral will be held from the residence Wednesday afternoon at 1:30. Services will be held in the Swedish Lutheran Church in Akron at 2:30 and interment made in the cemetery at Crathorne where a brother is buried.

Alfred Henry Klemme was born at Akron, Iowa, July 8, 1894. He was baptized August 5, 1894. Later he was confirmed in St. John's Lutheran Church, Preston Township, Akron, April 4, 1909. On February 20, 1917, he was united in marriage to Miss Rosina Bubs at a wedding service in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron. Pastor F. A. Meske officiated.

Alfred and Rose celebrated the Golden Anniversary of their marriage in Immanuel church on February of 1967. They lived much of their married life on the farm home east of Akron, until moving into Akron in 1952. He had lived in Akron since that time. In June of 1925, he and his wife became members of Immanuel and had been active members throughout their lives. Alfred thought highly of his church and of his Savior and showed this in various ways, such as serving in any way he could.

Among those who survive to mourn his departure are: his son, Gordon; his brother, Harry, both of Akron; four grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. His wife preceded him in death in August of 1967, and his son, Wilmer, in March of 1963. Two brothers and his sister also preceded him in death.
