Life EventDateDescription
Birth23 September 1939Evale Kay Abraham was born on 23 September 1939 at Beresford, Union, South Dakota.
She was the daughter of Edward Andreas Abraham and Minnie Louise Westberg.
Death14 January 2023Evale Kay Abraham died on 14 January 2023 at age 83 EVale Kay Abraham, or as she was affectionately known as "Dollie," has gone to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She entered this life Saturday, September 23, 1939 and departed January 14, 2023. Dollie started Sunday school at the age of three at Komstad Covenant Church and attributes a majority of her strong Christian background to the teachings she received there. Dollie's elementary years were completed at Danefield District 51 rural school. Before she even started elementary school, her beloved mother taught Dollie to read-which was a blessing for both of them. Dollie found a lifelong love of reading and her mother was able to get the work done on the farm that was needed. After 8th grade graduation from Danefield, Dollie attended and graduated from Beresford High School. After high school graduation, she obtained an adventurous job working for the FBI in Washington DC. This six-month job opportunity was possible because of a very special teacher at Beresford HS, Mr. R.G. Sweeley, which Dollie has always been grateful for. Getting a college degree was always one of Dollie's dreams so she saved scrupulously while at the FBI. Once she returned from DC, she would attend and graduate from Augustana College and in later years, earn her Masters (+24). Dollie put her degree in elementary education to use for 38 dedicated years in Sioux Falls; teaching fourth grade at South Sioux School and Jefferson Elementary School retiring in 1999.

She continued to enjoy another lifelong love in her retirement: traveling - and enjoyed every minute of it. Dollie always claimed lack of musical talent for herself but she loved music. She always said that her talent in music consisted of applauding with gusto and turning pages with a flare. Dollie always felt the message of the bible was expressed beautifully in music and she very much enjoyed listening to Anita Kostboth, Sandy DeSaix, and LaVonne "Bonnie" Young play the Emmanuel Lutheran Church grand piano.

Dollie is preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Minnie Abraham, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She is survived by her baby sister, Geanelle Mae (George) or as she was affectionately known as "Bunnie," two nieces: Dreya (Tobb) Aman & Keera (Jamey) Haukap, and nine great nieces and nephews. Throughout her life but especially in her last couple of years, Dollie was comforted by her Christian belief, the fact that she knew where she was going when she died and wants you to know, she is, at last, in the arms of her Lord!

Memorial services will be 11AM Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2023 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Beresford.

He was the son of Roy Abraham and Sarah Marie Sommervold.
Baptism24 October 1937Robert Lee Abraham was baptized on 24 October 1937 at Brule Creek Lutheran Church, Union, South Dakota.
Death28 September 2021He died on 28 September 2021 at age 84 Robert Lee Abraham was born on September 8, 1937 to Roy and Sarah (Sommervold) Abraham on the family farm near Spink, SD. He was baptized and confirmed at Brule Creek Lutheran Church. Bob’s elementary school years were spent at Pleasant Hill country school, and he graduated from Alcester High School in 1955. He completed one year at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD, before enlisting in the Army. Upon completion of his service, he returned to Augustana, where he met his future wife, Marilyn Ching. The couple graduated from Augie in 1962, and were married 5 days later on June 9 in the First Presbyterian Church of Castlewood, SD.

Bob was a man who set goals and then carried them out. On one of his first dates with Marilyn, he let her know what his future plans entailed: travelling to see the world, experiencing life away from home, and finally returning to SD to start a family and to farm full time. Just as Bob had envisioned, he and Marilyn spent the first four years of their married lives living and working in communities far removed from their SD home. Bob taught math and Marilyn worked as a nurse in both Grand Junction, CO, and later in Kingston, NY. After spending a summer traveling throughout Europe, Bob and Marilyn moved back to South Dakota. Bob farmed and taught high school math in Alcester, all while earning his master’s degree in guidance and counseling from USD in 1969. Soon the couple purchased a farm, where they lived and worked for the next 52 years. Bob and Marilyn became parents of a daughter, Jillean, born on Bob’s birthday in 1966, and two years later, a son, Ross, whose birthday fell one week later. Since full-time farming was his ultimate goal, Bob gradually acquired more land until he could leave his teaching position. Throughout his farming career, Bob grew primarily corn and soybeans while raising and selling Hereford cross cattle. Since he was environmentally conscience, Bob was one of the first in the area to incorporate ridge-till and no-till farming methods. In addition to farming, Bob worked for the State of SD as an Agricultural Finance Counselor for thirty years, beginning shortly after the farm crisis of the early 1980s. Bob’s quiet, calming presence and proven business acumen were surely a comfort to the scores of farm families he advocated for during bankruptcy mediations. Bob’s even temper, quiet leadership, and common sense wisdom made him effective church council president, a role that he fulfilled twice for the Nathanael Lutheran Church congregation in Alcester, SD. Bob also served the Congregational Life and Mutual Ministry committees. He led by example; he was a loving husband and father, a successful farmer and businessman, and an active member of his church.

Bob loved the outdoors. His insistence on taking his young family on camping trips throughout the country and especially to National Parks has inspired his children’s and his grandchildren’s love of camping and the outdoors. One of Bob’s most important family legacies was taking his adult children, their spouses, and his four grandchildren to Outlaw Ranch Family Bible Camp near Custer, SD, every summer for nearly 17 years! There he shared his faith with his family in the outdoors he loved. Bob also enjoyed playing golf, attending Augustana sporting events, and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. He was a connoisseur of popcorn and ice cream, an “ace” ping-pong player, and a sneaky stealer of points in Cribbage (as his grandchildren can attest). Bob’s legacy of service to his church and family make his memory an inspiration to all who were fortunate to know him.

Robert Abraham was 84 years and 20 days old when he passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at Ava’s House Hospice Facility in Sioux Falls, SD. Grateful for having shared his life is Bob’s wife of 59 years Marilyn (Ching) Abraham; daughter Jillean Lee (Brian) Beck of Sioux Falls and son Ross Peder (Julie) Abraham of Brookings; four grandchildren Tyler (Amanda) Beck of Denver, CO, Jordan Beck of Lincoln, NE, Lucas Abraham of Omaha, NE, and Eleanor Abraham of Annapolis, MD. Bob’s parents Roy and Sarah and siblings Shirley and Donald preceded him in death.

Visitation will be held Friday, October 1 at Nathanael Lutheran Church in Alcester, SD, from 5:00-7:00 pm. Burial will be held at the Nora Cemetery at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 2 with funeral services following at 2:00 pm at Nathanael Lutheran Church.

Death5 March 1998Ole Christopherson Ronnei died on 5 March 1998 at Kirkland, Washington, at age 96 "Ole was here when Novelty came and went, when the railroads were built and later left, when the riverboats were used to haul milk, cream and other goods until railroads and highways came along," wrote local historian Bob Kosters in an article that appeared in the Nov. 25 issue of the Wagon Wheel, published by the Duvall Historical Society.

"Through all those years of change the Ronneis stayed on the farm, seeing farming methods change, their friends and neighbors pass from the scene," wrote Kosters. "Now Ole and sister Nellie are the only surviving members of the original Ronnei family that came from Norway so many years ago."

Ole Ronnei died March 5 in Kirkland at the age of 96. Ole was born in Norway in 1901, but the family moved to the Novelty area south of Duvall when he was just a year old. Ole and Marie Abrahamsen were married in 1939 and have always lived on the farm he purchased from his father.

"In his younger days, Ole worked for a time as a logger and at other jobs, but never strayed far from the Novelty farm," the Wagon Wheel article stated. "We (historical society members) believe Ole has lived in the valley longer than any other person living today." Ole also worked on a crew in 1918 building the new Novelty Bridge.

Ole is survived by his wife, Marie, daughters Bonnie Amos and her husband Norman of Redmond; Lois Haddock and her husband Ed of Kirkland; sons Jerry Ronnei and wife Marilyn of Chewelah and Duane Ronnei of Carnation; sister Nellie Hermanson of North Bend, seven grandchildren, three step grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and seven step great grandchildren.

Life EventDateDescription
Birth20 February 1944Vernon Eugene Sand was born on 20 February 1944.
He was the son of Harvey Alexander Sand and Violet Esther Abrahamson.
Death6 February 2020Vernon Eugene Sand died on 6 February 2020 at age 75 Vernon Eugene Sand was born on February 20, 1944 in Akron, IA to Harvey and Violet (Abrahamson) Sand. He passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Avera Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD on February 6, 2020.

Vernon grew up on a farm near Alcester, SD. He attended Big Springs and Star grade schools. He graduated from Alcester High School in 1963. Vernon was united in marriage with Marjorie “Daisy” on July18, 1970 near Lennox, SD. They had one son, Wade, and one daughter, Stacy.

Vernon had several occupations throughout his life. After high school graduation he worked at Phillips 66 in Beresford, SD, 10 years of service at John Deere Co. in Sioux Falls, and 20 years at Williams Pipeline in Donavan, NE and Sioux Falls, SD. After retirement in 2002, he began a lawncare and snow removal service for the next 17 years.

Vernon was an avid fisherman, NASCAR enthusiast, and a garage loving motorhead. One of his biggest passions in life was restoring and rebuilding his beloved 1968 SS Chevelle. Many hours were spent in the backyard garage restoring the car with a complete frame off restoration. His life motto was “If it can be fixed, fix it….Don’t haul it to the landfill”. This meant a lot of jerry rigging of items. Numerous rolls of duct tape, JB Weld, and bailing wire definitely came in handy for many repairs.

In his retirement, Vernon enjoyed many fishing trips to the Missouri River with his wife Daisy. They enjoyed their camper located at Pease Creek, west of Lake Andes, SD. Several NASCAR trips were made to Kansas City Speedway and Texas Motor Speedway. During the off season Vernon loved watching old episodes of his favorite show “Gun Smoke” and tying fishing lures for the upcoming fishing season.

Vernon’s other enjoyments in life were old country music and 1950’s rock and roll. “One Minute Past Eternity” by Jerry Lee Lewis was his favorite song. He told Daisy that he would always love her until one minute past eternity. He attended many concerts at the Dakota Opry and spent many good times with classmates from the Alcester High Class of 1963.

Grateful for having shared his life are his loving wife of 49 ½ years, Daisy; their two children, Wade (Melissa) of Sioux Falls, SD, Stacy of Omaha, NE; three grandchildren, Ayden, Adyson, and Ella, and a host of relatives and friends.

A memorial service for Vern will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at Sunnycrest United Methodist Church in Sioux Falls. The family will be present one hour prior to greet friends.
