Anna Ebsen was born on Sept. 10, 1921, at Vermillion to Peter and Serena (Christensen) Ebsen. She married Elmer Willenburg on Sept. 30, 1948, at Vermillion. They moved to a farm near Parker in 1948 and she worked at the Hilltop Nursing Home there for more than 20 years. They retired and moved into Parker in 1972. In 1994, they moved to St. Paul. Her husband died in 2001.

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and the VFW Auxiliary.

Survivors include a son, Bob (Shirley) of St. Paul; three daughters, Betty Stock and Deborah Willenburg, both of St. Paul, and Joan (Steve) Halstenson of Ft. Meyers, Fla; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Wayne Ebsen of Pipestone, Minn., and Curtis "Bud" Ebsen of Madison; and three sisters, Esther Abraham of Sioux Falls, Emma Flanery of Rapid City, and Mary Ann Hyland of Madison.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two brothers, Leonard and John Ebsen.

Olof William Halvorsen was born in Union County, South Dakota, March 16, 1889. A few weeks later on May 5, 1889, he was baptized at Union Creek Church by Pastor L.E. Sjolinder. During boyhood he attended the Garland School and when he was 14 years of age he was confirmed in Union Creek Church by Pastor Olof Wallin. The date was September 23, 1903.

During World War I, Mr. Halvorsen served his country in the armed forces in France. Since his discharge from the service, he has been an active member both of the American Legion and of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

On February 8, 1921, Miss Mattie Kelly became his bride at a wedding in Sioux City. While they were living in Casper, Wyoming, she died August 17, 1945.

Mr. Halvorsen lived most of his life in this area. For short periods of time he made his home in Casper, Wyoming, Sioux City, Iowa and since 1959 in Chatsworth, Iowa.

Late in 1968, he became a patient in the Veterans' Hospital in Sioux Falls. He continued there until November, 1969, when he became a resident; of the Mapes Nursing Home in Hawarden, Iowa.

He was affectionately known by his many friends as simply "Bill" He had a warm and friendly personality which endeared him to young and old alike.

Those who survive to mourn his departure include: his daughter, Angie Chatfield of Santa Monica, California; his stepdaughter, Izetta Lamoureux of Casper, Wyoming; his brother, Fred of Knoxville, Iowa; his three sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Jacobs of Akron, Mrs. Mae Aalfs of Humboldt, South Dakota and Mrs. Mabel Lewison of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; his four grandchildren, three great grandchildren, four step grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Irene grew up and received her education in the Emmet and Cleveland rural schools. She married Jennings Newbold on Feb. 28, 1928 at Beresford. The couple farmed in the Beresford area until 1957 when they moved to Vermillion. Jennings died in 1966 and Irene moved to Beresford in the early 1970s. Irene was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She was presently a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Beresford. She was also a member of the Beresford VFW Auxiliary. Irene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son: Donald; one granddaughter: Wanda; one sister: Ella; and two brothers: Harold and Judine.
Among those who survive and gratefully shared her life are two daughters: Dorothy of Hudson, and Avis Messler and her husband Raymond of Beresford; two sons: James and his wife Virginia of Murdo, and LeRoy and his wife Suzi of Glendale, AZ; a daughter-in-law: Angela Newbold of Omaha, NE; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; three sisters: Josie Strom of Beresford, Mabel Neary of Wauwatosa, WI, and Myrtle Danielson of East Moline, IL; one brother: Stanley Hansen and his wife Elaine of Cushman, AR; two sisters-in-law: Maggie Hansen of St. Helens, OR, and Eva Hansen of Sioux City, IA; and many other relatives and friends.
