Cora Elizabeth Casler was born March 12, 1909, in Seney, the daughter of William and Martha (Hughes) Casler. Cora attended country school near Merrill, and later Merrill High School.
Cora was united in marriage to Edward P. Utesch on Feb. 16, 1927, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Johnson Township, rural Merrill. Ed and Cora farmed near Merrill and later moved to a farm north of Le Mars where they lived until retiring. They moved to Le Mars in February 1973. Ed died Oct. 9, 1979. After Ed died, Cora enjoyed spending the winter months in Oklahoma and Texas with her daughters.
Cora was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. She treasured the time with her children and grandchildren. She has made her home at the Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars since November 1995.
Survivors include her children, Donna Whitaker of Frisco, Texas, Lois Johnson and Edward and Marilyn Utesch, all of Le Mars; a son-in-law, Donald Witt of Bartelsville, Oklahoma; 15 grandchildren, David Witt, Linda Sohl, Stephen Witt, Jeffrey Witt, Donita Wendt, Kathleen Rice, Phillip Whitaker Jr., Paul Whitaker, Susan Cook, Prescott Whitaker, Charles Johnson, Robert Johnson, Michael Johnson, Beth Robey, and Mark Utesch; 27 great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Ella Utesch of Akron.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Joyce Witt on June 7, 1999; two sons-in-law, Phillip Whitaker and Melvin Johnson; two great-grandsons, Warren Rice and Russell Whitaker; four sisters, Mildred Galland, Alva Jaynes, Ruth Waite, and Mary Ellen Schwartzkopf; and a brother, George Casler.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Le Mars with the Rev. Gary Landsness officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitations will be after 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Cora's grandsons.

She was a member of Brule Creek Lutheran Church and was very active in ALCW, holding several offices in that organization.

Survivors include her husband John; three sons, Eldon of Winona, Minn., John L. of Eau Claire, Wisc., and Ronald of San Diego, Calif; three daughters, Mrs. Warren (Loraine) Hoffman of Shreveport, LA, Mrs. Arnold (Norma) Morehead of Buhl, Idaho, and Mrs. Duane (Shirley) Lauters of Fresno, Calif; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Anna, Rose and Lydia; a brother, William; and a grandson, John E. Koplin.

Shirley Roane Morehead was born July 13, 1927 in Akron, Iowa, the daughter of Strachey and Goldie (Jones) Morehead. She graduated from Akron High School in 1945.

She was united in marriage to Gordon Klemme on September 15, 1945. Shirley was a long time member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she was active in ladies aide.

Shirley was an energetic person, had a gift for serving others, and made frequent visits to the elderly. She was a homemaker and enjoyed bowling, bridge club, and ballroom dancing. Shirley loved spending time visiting with family and friends. She will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her husband of 67 years: Gordon Klemme of Akron IA; her daughters: Roxanne Michael and husband Bill of Akron IA, Coyla Trotzig and husband Joe of Naples, FL; her granddaughters: Holly Packiam and husband Glenn of Colorado Springs, CO, Alison MacPhail and husband Danny of Modesto CA, Abby Milbrodt and husband Mark of Springdale, AK; great grandchildren: Sophia, Norah, Jonas, and Jane Packiam, Ava and Landon Milbrodt; her sister: Betty Klemme and husband Harvey of Akron; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Strachey and Goldie Morehead; her brother: Arnold Morehead; and her granddaughter: Jayna Trotzig.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Craig, Iowa. The Rev. Sarah Nye will officiate. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars. Dorothy M. Baack was born Sept. 9, 1921, on the family farm near Craig, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Katherine (Plueger) Baack. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Craig. Dorothy was the oldest of five children, Donald, Duane, Doris, and Delores.

Dorothy attended country school near her home. She then attended Western Union (Westmar College) in Le Mars and earned a teaching certificate. Dorothy used her certificate to teach school in Craig and at country schools in Grant Township. During World War II, she and a friend spent a summer in Minneapolis assembling bomb fuses.

After the war, Dorothy was united in marriage to Wilmer C. Klemme on Aug. 31, 1947, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Craig. They were blessed with three children, Terry, Steve and Lori. In 1948, the couple moved to a farm in the Akron, Iowa area. They farmed near Ruble, Iowa, until Wilmer was killed in a farm accident on March 9, 1963. After Wilmer's death the family moved to Le Mars. Dorothy returned to Westmar College and earned her full teaching certificate which allowed her to teach school at Remsen Union from 1966 until her retirement in 1986. She taught several elementary grades but mostly taught kindergarten.

Dorothy was a longtime member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Craig, where she participated in church organizations throughout the years. She was the first woman to serve on the church council. She spent many years teaching Sunday School and helping the education committee. Dorothy enjoyed her retirement years by traveling all over the world. She also enjoyed reading, gardening and making quilts for members of her family. She also did volunteer work with Life Skills, Christian Needs, Le Mars Historical Museum, and the hospital Auxiliary gift store.

She will be lovingly remembered by her two children, Terry and his wife, Connie of Le Mars, and Steve and his wife, Lilo of Geneva, Switzerland; five grandchildren, Lyndsey of Le Mars, Alexander and Alison of South Amboy, N.J., Timothy and Patrick of Geneva, Switzerland; a brother, Duane Baack and his wife, Peggy of Littleton, Colo; and a sister, Doris Haage of Le Mars.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilmer; an infant daughter, Lori; an infant sister, Delores; and a brother, Donald.

Memorials in Dorothy's name may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland or the Floyd Valley Hospital.
