Wudel, age 91, of Holly, CO and formerly of Parkston, Rapid City, and Yankton, SD passed away Saturday, December 20, 2003 at Holly Nursing Care Center, Holly, CO. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. CST Wednesday, December 24, 2003 at the Kostel Funeral Chapel, Yankton, with Rev. O.K. Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery, Yankton. Visitations will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Dr. Russ Wudel, Tom Wudel, D.J. Sabo, Alan Braunesreither, Bob Braunesreither, and Dean Braunesreither.

Melvin was born April 26, 1912, in Parkston, SD, to David and Theresa (Matteis) Wudel, Sr. He served in the US Coast Guard. He married Lorraine Braunesreither Helm, February 26, 1954 in Yankton. Melvin was a banker in Parkston, until 1957 when they moved to Rapid City. He owned and operated Wudel-Werner Insurance Agency. They were members of South Canyon Lutheran Church in Rapid City and Trinity Lutheran Church in Yankton; they attended Lamar Christian Church in Lamar, CO. Melvin loved to sing and sang with church choirs and Chanters. He was an avid golfer, hunter, and fisherman. Melvin was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Elks, Shriners, and Lions.

Melvin's memory will be cherished and honored by his wife Lorraine of Lamar, CO; stepdaughter Kay James of Yankton, SD; three grandchildren, Kim (Brad) Ensberg of Lamar, CO, Tim (Lori) James of Yankton, SD, and Mark (Sue) James of Andalusia, AL; 7 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. His best friend and nephew Louis (Rosaline) Wudel of Lincoln, NE.

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Edward Wudel, Leonard Wudel, Elsie Doering, Herbert Wudel, 2 sisters and 1 brother in infancy; stepson Brian Helm and great-granddaughter Tasha Sabo.
Burial24 December 2003He was buried on 24 December 2003 at Yankton, South Dakota.
