Name TypeDateDescription
Name VariationMary Melissa Graham was also known as Malissa.
Married Name1841As of 1841,her married name was Darrah.
Life EventDateDescription
Birth8 July 1825Mary Melissa Graham was born on 8 July 1825 at New Paris, Ohio.
Marriage1841She married William W. Darrah in 1841.
Death26 August 1890Mary Melissa Graham died on 26 August 1890 at age 65 Mrs. Mary Melissa Darrah died at the home of her son, William Darrah, north of town, where she was visiting, Tuesday morning, Aug 26. The remains were brought to this city Wednesday and taken to the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Mercer. The funeral services were held at the Baptist church at two o'clock Wednesday afternoon, Rev Wittet delivering the funeral sermon, and a large number of friends paid their last tribute of respect to an old settler of this community. Mary Melissa Graham was born in New Paris, Ohio, July 8, 1825, where she grew to womanhood, and in 1841 was united in marriage with William Darrah, who died in 1880. With her husband she moved to Indiana in 1843, where they lived until 1856, when they removed to Illinois, settling in Champaign County. There they lived until 1867, when they came to Chatsworth, where they lived either in town or near town until Mr. Darrah's death, since which time Mrs. Darrah had made her home with her children most of the time, and the last few years with her daughter, Mrs. John Mercer. She leaves five children, one daughter, Mrs. Mercer, and four sons, Jos. C. and William, residing near town; T. W. of Portland, Ind., and J. R. of Watson, Ill, all of whom were present at the last sad obsequies over their loved one. Transcriber's notes. [This obituary is from a photocopy of the original from an unknown newspaper of the Chatsworth, IL area. The year of death was not stated. Mary died after May 22, 1880 when her husband died and before 1893 when her son Joseph died. Between those years August 26th was on Tuesday in 1884 and 1890. 1890 is the most likely year of her death based on where her children lived. Her husband William W. Darrah died in Randolph Co., IN while visiting a son Joseph.]
