She was the daughter of Frank Lee Cleveland and Mamie Clair Beardsley.
Marriage1 September 1956Joyce Ann Cleveland married Phillip N. Dorow, son of Edward Henry Dorow and Marion B. Prouty, on 1 September 1956.
Death23 May 2005Joyce Ann Cleveland died on 23 May 2005 at age 70 Joyce Ann (Cleveland) Dorow, age 70, of Wisconsin Dells, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Monday, May 23, 2005. Joyce was born in Baraboo, at home, on April 6, 1935. She was the youngest daughter of Frank Lee and Mamie Clair (Beardsley) Cleveland. Joyce graduated from Baraboo High School in 1953. She worked in retail for many years, including Woolworth's, Herberger's and Pries' Apparel. For the past 11 years she enjoyed her job at the Aunt Jenny's Got It All Store in Wisconsin Dells. On Sept. 1, 1956, Joyce married Phillip N. Dorow at the First Methodist Church in Baraboo. They had four beautiful children together. Joyce and Phillip ran several businesses together, with their children; they ran Dorow Electric, Dorow's Motel, The Boar's Nest and other varied ventures. Joyce was an avid volunteer. She was instrumental in bringing the Jaycettes to the Dells area. She was also involved in Homemakers, Dutiful Daisies and other various clubs. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. Joyce had many varied interests. She loved music. This was instilled by her father, Lee, who had a band called Cleveland's Harmony Seven. She was also involved in the Baraboo High School Glee Club. You could always find her singing, whether it be at church or just at home ironing. She loved movies and the theatre. She was in her high school's play, "The Night of January 16th." She was also a great dancer. She and her husband had their first date at a New Year's Eve dance, and they danced beautifully together for years. A family wedding dance was not complete until they glided across the floor together. Joyce learned her love of sewing from her mother, Mamie, who was also a great seamstress. Joyce made many dresses, outfits and Halloween costumes for her children, often burning the midnight oil to get a special outfit done in time. She also loved gardening; you could always enjoy her tiered rock gardens and other flower beds around her home. She loved birds and had a beautiful collection of porcelain bird figurines in her home. Joyce was a very devoted wife and mother. We could always count on her to be there for all of us. We all feel especially blessed to have had such a positive person in our lives. She spent lots of time at our schools, encouraging our education. She always made the best homemade treats. She also enjoyed getaways with her family, whether it was a trip to the State Fair, or a weekend on the lake. She has helped us all with our families and business ventures. She has always been a wonderful source of great advice and encouragement. Her door was always open to us, our friends, and her nieces and nephews. It will be hard to carry on without her. She taught us well and we will pass that same knowledge on to our children. Joyce is survived by her husband, Phillip N. Dorow; their children, Lisa (Hank) Hintz, Phillip D. Dorow, Duane (Melanie) Dorow and Claire (Jay) Seehafer; and her grandchildren, Aaron and Skylar Hintz, Alyssa, Abby and Amanda Dorow, and Olivia, Breauna and Hattie Seehafer. She is further survived by sisters-in-law, Mickey Cleveland, Cecile Cleveland, Evelyn (Norman) Farrington, Lyda Dorow, Unetta Dorow, Lucille Dorow and Helen Meske; brother-in-law, Donald Dorow; and other relatives and special friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee Cleveland and Mamie C. Bothell-Cleveland; her brother, Don Cleveland and his first wife, Jean; half-brothers, Walter Cleveland, Wilber Cleveland and his wife, Inga, and Bill Bothell and his wife, Loraine; half-sisters, Kathryn Zobel and her husband, Leonard, and Gladys Frazer and her husband, Leo; brothers-in-law, Paul Dorow, Hank Dorow, Clarence Dorow, Sidney Dorow and Harold Krey; sister-in-law, Helen Dorow; nephews, James Cleveland, Bob Zobel and James Bothell; and niece, Patty Benseman. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2005, at BETHANY LUTHERAN CHURCH, Wisconsin Dells. The Rev. Craig Wolfgram will officiate, with burial at Spring Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., on Wednesday, May 25, 2005, at the PICHA FUNERAL HOME, 120 E. Adams, Lake Delton.
