He graduated from Washington High School and the University of Oregon and received a dental degree from the University of California School of Dentistry in Oakland. He served in the U.S. Navy. He was a dentist in private practice in Portland until his retirement in 1985. In 1946, he married Connie Cross; she died in 1977.

Survivors include his daughters, Cindy Kerber and Robin Folquet; sister, Renee Rowe; and one grandchild.

Interment is in Skyline Memorial Gardens. The family suggests remembrances to the Assistance League of Portland for the Portland Children's Dental Center. Arrangements are by Skyline Funeral Home.

She is survived by her mother, Ruth Cowan of Reedsburg; children, Stephen A. (Debra) Muchow of Reedsburg, Stanley G. (Kay) Muchow of Madison, Sue E. (Paul) Zingsheim of Reedsburg, and Sandra L. (Steven) Peterson of Reedsburg; grandchildren, Michelle (Adrian), Stephen L., Chad (Anna), Kelly, Kurtis, Derek, Dustin, and Dylan; great-grandson, Brayden; brothers, Dwight "Fritz" (Judi) Cottington of St. Paul, Minn., Gerald (Shirley) Cowan of Spring Park, Minn., and Richard (Jeri) Cowan of Baraboo; aunts, Helen L. Ziech of Reedsburg, and Pearl Niebuhr of Reedsburg; and many other relatives and close friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; a son, Scott Muchow; her father, Dwight Cottington; and step-father, Frank Cowan.

Funeral services for Nina Muchow will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2003, at ST. JOHN EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH in Reedsburg with Dr. James Steinbrecher officiating. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery, Reedsburg.
