MarriagePenny Louise Reuter married Sgt. Timothy Young.
Birth20 April 1958Penny Louise Reuter was born on 20 April 1958 at Baraboo, Sauk, Wisconsin.
She was the daughter of Edwin Henry Reuter and Dolores Betty Schoenmann.
Death29 June 2011Penny Louise Reuter died on 29 June 2011 at Anchorage, Alaska, at age 53 Penny Louise Reuter-Young, age 53, passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2011, in her home in Anchorage, Alaska. Penny was born April 20, 1958, at St. Clare Hospital in Baraboo, to Edwin and Dolores Reuter. She was a student at St. Joseph's Catholic School. Penny and her brothers and sisters were always involved in 4-H and other Sauk County Fair activities. She went on to graduate from the Baraboo Senior High School, class of 1976. Penny made Baraboo her home, when she started working at the Thunderbird Lanes that landed her then dream job. She loved the bowling leagues and was named the ugliest bartender one year while working there. She then decided to move to North Freedom where she worked for many years tending bar at Stebblers and then at the Freedom Inn, owned by Jim and Linda. Penny pursued her next job in Fond du Lac at Prange Way working in the outdoor department until she moved on in 1993. She began planning a vacation to the last frontier of Alaska where she continued on to travel to that great state. After a six week vacation, she decided to make Alaska her home. That is where she met and later married Sgt. Timothy Young of Anchorage, Alaska, until his death on Sept. 18, 2002. Her first job in Anchorage was at the Carr's Safeway grocery chain where she was a lead checkout clerk. She then moved to the floral department where she stayed for 10 happy years. It was years later when she met the love of her life, Mitch McNamee, formally of Bakersfield, Calif. She and Mitch loved to go camping at Portage Glacier and mountain biking all around the area. Nothing made her happier than to spend time in the great outdoors with him. His sense of humor and wit made her life so enjoyable. She was at her best with him. She and Mitch have been together for eight loving years. After pursuing a career as a floral arranger, she then moved on to Muffy's Magical Garden where she found her calling of arranging and delivering flowers to the local residents. She thoroughly enjoyed her job at the flower shop at Elmendorf Air Force Base. Her part time career interest was as a dental assistant, juggling work and her classes at the dental school in Anchorage. She held odd jobs like light housekeeping at Susitna Energy Systems and at the State of Alaska tie-down office in Anchorage. Penny worked as much as she could until she took on the challenge of chemotherapy that made her slow down for the many months while she battled this terrible disease. Penny was a member of St. Patrick's Parish in Anchorage, Alaska. Deacon Felix Maguire was her mentor and came to visit her in the hospital during her fight with cancer. A special mass was said in Penny's honor on July 3, 2011, at the church. Penny had the power of faith in her, so you know she made peace with herself before her passing. Before her journey back home, with family accompanying her, Deacon Felix blessed her ashes and sent her home to spend her final resting place in Baraboo. Penny is survived by her longtime boyfriend, Mitchell McNamee of Anchorage, Alaska; her siblings, Pam (George) McDonald of Madison, Patti (Jim) Pederson of Freeport, Fla., Dennis (Lynn) Reuter of Prairie du Sac, Michael (Jenny) Reuter of Madison, Peggy (Kirk) Garoutte of Anchorage, Alaska, Jill Walls of Madison, Jan (Jon) Backeburg of Reedsburg, Michelle Reuter of Baraboo, and Lisa (Dennis) Janke of Baraboo; aunt and godmother, Shirley Schmid of Waunakee; aunt, Rosemary Herndon of Baraboo; aunt and uncle, Margie and Ray Lease of Barneveld; aunt, Miriam of Prosperity, S.C; many, many wonderful cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives; and too many friends to list. In addition to her late husband, Sgt. Timothy Young; Penny was preceded in death by her wonderful parents, Edwin and Dolores Reuter; aunt, Marie Reuter; and uncles, Verlyn Schmid, Red Herndon, Milfred Robson and Gerald Reuter. A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2011, at 11 a.m. at ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH in Baraboo with a Christian burial to follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday at church. Penny's family invites all who loved her to join them at the Reuter family farm on Hwy 113. Penny will be sorely missed. She had that great laugh, a very loud whistle and all the memories, laughter and love are the treasures that we will keep forever. Let those good memories play over and over in your heart.
