James was born October 5, 1939 in Platteville, Wisconsin to Lester and Belva Habel. In his youth, Jim attended the training school at UW Platteville. He rode in the AMPI milk truck for 22 years and accompanied his brother, Lyle, selling and delivering for Southwest Supply.

He relocated to Delavan, Wisconsin to live with his sister, Barb Hessenthaler and her family, where he worked at Fagan Ford, McCullough's drug store, and VIP workshop.

In 1991 Jim moved to Waumandee, WI to live with his niece, LeeAnne Bulman, and her family. The last 13 years he resided with Anna Lawyer in La Crosse while working jobs at Riverfront, Hilltoppers, ORC, and most recently VARC in Viroqua. He attended Merit Center North. Jim spent alternate weekends with Dorothy Clark.

Jim loved to travel. His favorite places were Disney World, Disney Land, Dollywood, and visits to family. His other free time was spent walking, bike riding, teasing, dressing up for Halloween, and singing.

Jim is survived by his caretakers, Anna Lawyer, Adrian Gotts and daughter Aaron, Dorothy Clark and son Damien; his brother and sisters, Ron Habel, Vista, CA, Shirley Anderson, Onalaska, Carol Funk, Columbia, SC, Mary (Dan) Schiefert, Rochester, MN, Barb (Darrell) Hessenthaler, Delavan, WI; his sister-in-law, Karen Habel, Platteville; and thirteen nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Doris Habel and Lois Burlo; brother, Lyle; brothers-in-law, Eddie Burlo and Chuck Anderson; sister-in-law, Cathy Habel; and three nieces.

VFW Memorial Services will be at 12:00 P.M. (Noon) Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. In following with Lyle’s wishes he will be buried at sea. Chapel military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 42 and VFW Post 5274, Platteville along with American Legion Post 453, Belmont. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Lyle’s name. The Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville is serving the family.

Lyle was born on June 15, 1931 in Potosi, Wisconsin, son of Lester C. and Belva (Hamilton) Habel. He attended grade school at UW-Platteville State Training Center and graduated from Platteville High School in 1950. From 1949 – 1951 Lyle served in the 32nd Division COM National Guards Red Arrow, Platteville. On February 1, 1952 he joined the U.S. Navy and served from 1952 – 1955 overseas in Korea and Japan. After the service, he attended Madison Vo-Tech College for automotive training. On June 27, 1964 he was joined in marriage to Karen J. Ludwig in Platteville. His working career continued as a parts-manager in Chevrolet garages in Darlington and Platteville, sales for Southwest Supply and ended with sixteen years working for the Platteville School District, retiring at age 70, as head custodian at O.E. Gray Elementary.
He was a life member of VFW Post 5274, Platteville, WI; American Legion Post 453 Belmont, WI; Military Order of the Cooties Red Arrow Pup Tent 32 of Monroe; and the Disabled American Veterans. He is a Past Commander of VFW Post 5274 serving for four terms and Past Commander of VFW 3rd District, 1977-1978. He was VFW State Chief-of-Staff-Dept. of WI 1982-1983. From 1971-present he held offices at the local and district level. He received many national and state honors for membership and made it a passion to help veterans and their families. On May 20, 2014 he was thrilled to participate in the Honor Flight of Greater Dubuque, IA. Lyle was an honorary member of the Platteville FFA and has sponsored the Greenhand award from 1983-present.
His life’s enjoyments were work, family, and serving his country. He loved woodworking, time with family, working with young people, and the friendships he made with the Mennonite and Amish communities. He was a proud and loving father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Karen; son Rodney (Lois) Habel, Downers Grove, IL; daughter Gretchen (Daniel) Butts, Spring Green, WI; four grandchildren, Lainie (Henry) Grabowski, Karissa Habel, Dakota Butts, and McKenna Butts; sisters Shirley Anderson, Onalaska, WI; Carol Funk, Columbia, SC; Mary Jo (Daniel) Schiefert, Rochester, MN; Barbara (Darrell) Hessenthaler, Delevan, WI; brothers Ronald Habel, Vista, CA; James Habel, LaCrosse, WI; sister-in-law Edna Ludwig, Platteville and many nieces and nephews.

Don was born April 2, 1929 in Waukesha, WI, the son of Harold J. and Lillian B. (Schindler)
Van Natta. He was united in marriage to Myrtle M. Moody on June 5, 1951 at the Methodist Church, Belmont, WI. He graduated from Platteville High School in 1948 where he participated in track. While growing up he was an active 4-H member. He was a life time member of the Platteville Methodist Church. He served in the 32nd Division of the Wisconsin National Guard. Don was 1st Sergeant of Combat Support Co. and served in Ft. Lewis, WA, 1961-1962.

He worked at the Dubuque Packing Co. (hog cut dept.) for 33 years, retiring in 1981. After retirement he enjoyed working at Doctor’s Park Physicians and the Platteville Oral Surgeons maintaining the building and grounds. He was a courier for Doctor’s Park Clinic and greeter for Southwest Health Center. He really enjoyed being outdoors and cutting grass on his Cub Cadet riding lawn mower.

Don was Scoutmaster of Troop 82, Platteville, for 30 years. During this time he was very proud to help 45 boy scouts attain the rank of Eagle Scout under his leadership. As scoutmaster, he enjoyed twelve treks to the Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico, where he was accompanied by a son, grandson, and son-in-law. He received Scouting leadership awards of: Scouter of the year 1972, Outstanding Scoutmaster 1973, National Presidents Leader of Distinction, Silver Beaver Award in 1976, The Bridge Builder in 1978 and Order of the Arrow (Vigil). He was also presented the Above and Beyond the Call of Duty Award (ABCD). Don was a member of American Legion Post #42, Platteville, WI, where he was secretary and served on the firing squad.

Don was a very kind, proud, and giving father and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time and keeping “tabs” on his family and grandchildren. Donating and volunteering freely of his time, helping coach his children's many youth sports team in Platteville, WI.

Don thoroughly enjoyed watching sports. He loved to follow all the local high school sports teams. He was fond of the Hillmen, Pioneers, Wisconsin Badgers, Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers, as well as the Pearl City Wolves. He always enjoyed being Santa’s Helper during the holiday season. Also, traveling on WARCO bus trips to Branson, MO where he enjoyed the music and shows. He enjoyed dancing, playing euchre, going to movies, auctions and telling jokes. This included opening for comedians at the Arthur House comedy shows.

Don is survived by his wife, Myrtle; four children, Marsha (Jay) Butson, Dennis Van Natta, Larry (Lisa) Van Natta, Mary Jo Van Natta (Mike Esmond); four grandchildren, Jayson Van Natta, Kelsey (Steve) Butson-Sraga, Denyse Van Natta, Katie Butson; brothers-in-law, Ron Moody, of California; Robert Gill; sister-in-law, Mary Moody; and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law, Orville and Alta Moody; sister-in-law, Marge Gill; and brother-in-law, Orville Moody Jr.

He was united in marriage to Margaret (Marge) Moore on September 3, 1949. Bill graduated from Spring Green High School in 1939. He joined the U. S. Army in 1942 and was stationed in Germany, France and Luxembourg during World War II, as a MP in the 9th Armoured Division (nicknamed Phantom Division). Bill guarded Brig General Hoge as he gave the orders to capture the Ludendorff Bridge at Remagen. His Division then joined General Patten’s Third Army at the Battle of the Bulge. He served until the war ended in 1945. The entire 9th Military Police Company was recognized with the Meritorious Unit Citation, the Belgian Fourragère, and the Presidential Unit Citation for its performance at the Ludendorff Bridge. He attended Platteville State Teachers College, graduating with a degree in Agriculture Science. Bill taught high school in Illinois and together with Marge managed a 24-hour restaurant (Round Barn), before purchasing his first feed mill truck in 1955 and starting Bill’s Feed Service in Spring Green. For over two decades he served farmers in Sauk and Iowa counties. After selling his feed business he worked for the USPS, as a rural mail carrier and was a sales rep for Central Petroleum Company (Cen-Pe-Co). Bill was a life-long member of St. John’s Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, American Legion (Spring Green Post 253 and Grand Blanc MI Post 413), Knights of Columbus, Spring Green Lion’s Club and the Spring Green Men’s Golf League for over 50 years. He sponsored bowling teams and bowled at Palace Bar & Bowl in Plain and the Bowling Green of Spring Green. He enjoyed the golf outings to Osage Beach, attending state bowling tournaments and playing euchre and cribbage.

He is survived by two children: daughter Connie (husband James) Millspaugh of Grand Blanc, MI and son David (wife Sherri) Schoenmann of Medford, OR. He is further survived by three grandchildren: Ryan (wife Courtney) Millspaugh, Brandon and Austin Schoenmann; two great-grandchildren: Abriel and Allisen Millspaugh.

Other survivors include: sisters, Eleanor Rock, Cherie Buerosse; sister-in-laws, Madeline Tennant Zins, Jan Schoenmann, Linda Schoenmann; several nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marge, brothers: Frederick (wife Eileen) Schoenmann, Robert Schoenmann; sisters: Viola (husband Chuck) Rengstorff, Aurelia (husband Rueben) Kritz, Evelyn (husband Frederick) Jones, Vera (husband Arthur) Larsen, Virginia (husband Edward) Mite; brother-in-laws, Eugene Rock, Al Buerosse, Ralph Tennant, Marvin Kerl and sister-in-law, Mary Kerl.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 12:00 Noon at St. John’s Catholic Church in Spring Green. Fr. Bill Nolan will officiate with burial in the church cemetery where graveside military rites will be conducted by the Spring Green American Legion Post #253. Visitation will be held on Saturday at the church from 10:30am until the time of Mass at 12:00 Noon. Taught high school business education in Minnesota and Wisconsin until her marriage. 1958, returned to teaching. Next 30 years taught business education at Ridgeway H.S., River Valley H.S. and River Valley Jr.H. Retired at 72. Enjoyed house plants, cards, golf, bowling, hickory nuts, baking apple pies, making lefse and daily crossword puzzle. Survivors are: four children, Judy (Dale) Hottmann, Spring Green, Kristen (John) Clary, Mount Horeb, Eric (Sally) Larson, Richland Center, and Cindi (Phil) Manske, Spring Green; six brothers and sisters, Viola Rengstorff, Madison, Eleanor (Eugene) Rock, Spring Green, William "Bill" (Marge) Schoenmann, Spring Green, Robert (Linda) Schoenmann, Dodgeville, Cherie (Al) Buerosse, New Berlin, VA. (Ed) Mite, Chicago, IL; sister-in-law, Jan Schoenmann, Spring Green; numerous grandchildren. Death2 September 2020Eleanor Schoenmann died on 2 September 2020 at age 101 Eleanor Rock, age 101, of Spring Green passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at the Greenway Manor in Spring Green, Wisconsin. She was born on October 27, 1918 to Lucy and Herbert Schoenmann of Wyoming Valley, Wisconsin. Eleanor attended Whitewater State Teachers College and graduated in 1940. She taught communications and mathematics in Melrose, Lodi, and Spring Green High Schools. She also attended St. Louis University and taught code and typewriting at Truax and Scott Airfield’s.

In 1944 she married Eugene Rock at the Truax Chapel. After “Rock” got out of service in December 1945, they owned and operated Rock’s Truck Stop at the intersection of Hwy 14 and 23 until 1951. In November of 1952 they purchased the Round Barn and operated it until 1984. While at the Round Barn they built the Hayloft Motel. Upon retiring from the Round Barn, Eleanor worked at Lands End during the Christmas season for 25 years and she also worked at Taliesin for 6 years.

Eleanor is survived by six of her eight children, Gene (Kris), Newport News, VA, Carole (Tom) Robb, Hartford, WI, Laurie (George) Burnham, Jeff, both of Lone Rock, WI, Patrick (Eden), Auburn, CA, Corey, Spring Green, WI, daughters-in-law, Peggy, Barbara, Ruth; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a sister Cherie Buerosse.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene; sons Gary, Greg; grandson Michael; five sisters and three brothers.

Due to the Covid19 pandemic, the family will hold a private burial at a later date. Interment will be at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Spring Green, Wisconsin.

The Richardson-Stafford Funeral Home in Spring Green is assisting the family with the arrangements.
