His father was Burgomaster of his native village in Germany, and, after he moved to Wisconsin, he was elected, in 1867, Justice of the Peace; he is still living in Dickeyville; he was the second German who settled in the town of Paris; a zealous Catholic, he helped to build the St. Mary's German Catholic Church at Jamestown, and afterward the "Holy Ghost" Chapel, German Catholic Church at Dickeyville.4
