  • Josephine Dorothy Abeare witnessed the marriage of Paul Kraus and June Lorraine Denny in November 1945 at St. Phillip's Church, Empire, Leelanau, Michigan; St. Phillip's Church at Empire was the scene of a beautiful wedding at nine o'clock recently when Rev. Fr. Bocek officiated at rites in which Miss June Denny, daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Frank Denny, became the bride of Motor Machinist Mate First Class Paul Kraus, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Kraus of Alleson Park, Pa., the impressive ceremony being performed before an altar banked with white chrysanthemums and lighted candelabra. The bride, given in marriage by her father, was lovely in a gown of white sheer over taffeta, her finger-tip veil falling from a halo adorned with orange blossoms and with a bridal bouquet of gardenias. Her only jewelry, a strand of pearls, was a gift of the groom. Miss Charlotte Denny, niece of the bride, as bridesmaid wore a gown of blue sheer over taffeta with matching cap and carried an arm bouquet of yellow chrysanthemums and white roses. Dressed in blue taffeta little Miss Lorraine Denny of Flint acted as flower girl for her aunt. The groom had Louis Bishop of Elberta, nephew of the bride, as his attendant. Serving as altar boys were Douglas Denny of Traverse City and Jerry Denny of Empire, the bride's nephews. At the organ Mrs. J. V. Ecarius of Glen Arbor played for the nuptial high mass, the traditional wedding march and accompanied Mr. Ecarius who sang "Ave Maria." For her daughter's wedding Mrs. Denny chose a dress of aqua silk and Mrs. Kraus, mother of the broom was attired in brown silk crepe. Each wore an orchid. Following the service the bridal party went to the Park Place in Traverse City where a wedding breakfast was served. At noon dinner was served to a large group of relatives and friends at the Frank Denny home. Coming from away to attend the wedding were: Mr. And Mrs. Sylvester Kraus and Mrs. McKim of Alleson Park, Pa., John Sullivan of Beaver Falls, Pa., the Miner (Minor) Denny family of Flint, the Gene Bishop family of Elberta, the Harold Tobin family of Frankfort, the Clifford Denny family of Traverse City, Mr. And Mrs. William Denny and Mrs. Evaline Denny also of Travers City and Mr. And Mrs. Roy Verno and Miss Lorraine Verno of Flint.
