He was preceded in death by his first wife, Julie Christiansen Richards, and his son, Mark Julius Richards. Dick was born in Will County, Illinois and graduated from Joliet Township High School in 1949. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1951 and had a distinguished 42-year military career. He retired from the Air Force as a Chief Master Sergeant after serving in Panama City, Florida; Colorado Springs, Colorado; Anchorage, Alaska and at Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, Virginia. After retiring from the Air Force in the mid-1970s, he worked as a civil servant at the Naval Air Station in Norfolk, Virginia until his retirement in 1993. He was a member of Hilton Presbyterian Church for nearly 50 years, and was active on session and numerous committees throughout the years. He shared his love of camping and fishing with all of his children and was known and loved for his sense of humor. He was also a wicked Continental Rummy and bingo player, especially during his years living at The Chesapeake, where he made many good friends. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
