Description of Loen from "San Francisco News Letter (Jan.-June 1927)":
"Loen. For Lake Loen. Surrounded by snow-capped mountain ranges, intersected with beautiful green valleys. Lake Loen presents quite an Alpine appearance. The great rolling glacier Halseth, with its masses of blue ice constantly moving down the mountain side; the Steep Ravenfjeld and the Nonsnib towering 6,000 feet above you, make a wonderful picture."

Death13 September 2013Thelma Rose Sleeman died on 13 September 2013 at Michigan at age 98 Thelma Rose Mollet, age 98, of Galesburg, MI died Friday afternoon, September 13, 2013 at the Alamo Nursing Home, Kalamazoo, MI. Thelma was born on January 28, 1915 to Sidney and Una Sleeman in Kalamazoo, Ml. She was the oldest of three children; Philip Sleeman (Deceased) and Gordon Sleeman (Deceased). She was raised by her parents on their farm on E Avenue in Cooper, Michigan and dearly loved the farm and the animals. She attended McGregor School, which was a one room school during her childhood years and also attended University High for a few years, graduating from Plainwell High School. Thelma graduated from Parson's Business School and worked at Wilson Insurance in Kalamazoo. While living in Kalamazoo, she met and became best friends with the future Vivian Roelof. She came to Galesburg, Ml, becoming the executive secretary for Eldon Burgess of Burgess Seed Company. While working at Burgess, she met Alvin Mollet who later became her husband. On April, 13, 1944, Richard C. Mollet (Deceased) was born to Al and Thelma as they became established in Galesburg. Al and Thelma purchased a grocery store in Galesburg which was named Mollet Market. Four years later, Thomas S. Mollet was born, the youngest of the Mollet children. The Mollet's were very active in the Galesburg Methodist Church, as well as being generous supporters of the Galesburg Volunteer Fire Department, school athletic programs and various other school activities. Thelma was active in the Eastern Star in her younger years and was still a member in good standing at her death. Thelma was very active in the various Methodist Church circles, Galesburg Garden Club, Galesburg Historical Museum, Friends of the Library, Kids Hope, etc. Shortly after the Mollet's sold their store, Al and Thelma went into a semi-retirement and within a year, Al passed away. This began a whole new career for Thelma, where she worked at Ruby's Clothing Store in Galesburg and moved into Galesburg from the country. Mom retired from Ruby's after several years and she began looking for new challenges. She began throwing herself into volunteer efforts such as volunteering to read with the school children, Kid's Hope mentoring to at risk children, and the Galesburg Historical Museum. Thelma and her girlfriends began traveling to Europe and they had the time of their lives. Thelma loved her flower gardens and at 75, she dug her own pond, cemented it in and built a water falls to occupy her time. She met a kindred spirit after her new friend moved in next door. Pat (Patricia) Perkins and mom would go off to flower show, quilting exhibits, etc. The deep friendship continued until Thelma's passing. It was difficult at times to find Thelma as she was off volunteering at one of her various programs. In 1977, her first granddaughter Jean (Cougill) was born and Thelma would often stay with Tom and Catherine Mollet (Stange) at the different states they were transferred to. She would often spend the entire winter seasons staying close to her family. In 1982, her second granddaughter, Karen (Petersen) was born and Thelma had two granddaughters to spoil. As fortune would have it, Jean had two grandsons, Louie and Xander of Noblesville, Indiana whom she dearly adored. In later years, while her health was declining, she would often endure the 4 hour ride to Indiana to see her two special angels. Thelma is remembered for her big smile, her gentle nature and her fondness to quietly help others even late into her late 90's. The Funeral Service to celebrate Thelma's life will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 18th at 2:00 p.m. in the Galesburg United Methodist Church, 111 W. Battle Creek Street, with retired Pastor, Rev. Donald R. Wendell, officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Galesburg. Family and friends are invited to return to the Church's Social Hall immediately following the committal service to continue Thelma's life celebration with a time of fellowship and a luncheon. Friends will be received from Noon until service time on Wednesday at the Church. Memorial contributions in Thelma's honor may be directed to the Church or the Galesburg Memorial Museum, 190 E. Michigan Avenue, Galesburg, MI 49053. The Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Richland Chapel (269-629-6022) is in charge of all the arrangements.

Birth31 March 1856Severt S. Sommervold was born on 31 March 1856 at Orkedalen, Norway.
He was the son of Sever Sommervold and Johanna Kvomsbrekken.
Marriage12 April 1889Severt S. Sommervold married Marit A. Asp, daughter of Andrew Asp and Helle (?), on 12 April 1889 at Union, South Dakota, also reported as April 12, 1890.
Death1 January 1941Severt S. Sommervold died on 1 January 1941 at age 84 Sivert Sommervold was born March 31, 1856, at Orkedalen, Norway. His parents were Sivert and Johanna Sommervold. He was baptized and confirmed in Orkedal church. He came to America together with his parents and brothers and sisters in 1877. They came first to Sioux City, and then almost immediately to Union county and the vicinity where he since lived.

The steamboats plying up and down the Missouri river offered all opportunity for the early pioneers of this community to supplement their scant income by taking jobs on these boats. This was also about the first work Mr. Sommervold engaged in after coming to this country.

April 12, 1890, he was united in marriage to Miss Marit Esp, his wife, who now survives him. The ceremony was performed by the pioneer pastor, Rev. G.L. Graven. They were thus privileged to celebrate their golden wedding last April 12. They at once devoted themselves to farming. For the last 38 years they lived on the present homestead. This union was blessed with ten children. The family circle was never until now broken by death.

Mr. Sommervold's membership in Roseni congregation dated from its earliest years. He was a member for more than half a century. He saw his community develop from its early beginnings to what it is today, and made no little contribution to its progress.

Mr. Sommervold was actively engaged in farming until the knit few years. A lingering illness brought his life to a dose on New Years’ Day, at about 10:00 a.m. He thus attained the advanced age of 84 years, 9 months and 1 day.

He is survived by his wife and the following 10 children: Sivert Jr., Alcester; Alfred, Akron, Ia; John, Alcester; Hilda, Mrs. Elmer Klemme, Akron, Ia., Johanna, Mrs. Adolph Eggen, Alcester; Sarah, Mrs. Roy Abraham, Akron, Ia; Ludvig, Grand Park, Ill; Esther, Denver, Colo; and Martin, Akron, Ia; also 25 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, John, of Alcester, and two sisters, Mrs. Johanna Sveeggen, Alcster, and Mrs. Ellen Berg, Aurora, Ill. One sister, Paulina, Mrs. Hans Anderson preceded him in death.

Funeral services were conducted at Roseni church Monday, January 6, Rev. M.O. Ensberg officiating. A host of relatives and friends crowded the church. Six of the grandsons served as pallbearers. Vocal duets were sung by two granddaughters, Mrs. Newton Wevik and Mrs. Judin Solbue and by Rev. and Mrs. M.O. Ensberg. Internment was made in Roseni Cemetery.1
