Death18 August 2015Josephine Ann Meister died on 18 August 2015 Josephine Ann Ring (known to all as Joan), age 80 of Plain, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at Greenway Manor Nursing Home. Joan lived her entire life in Plain, beginning at her parents home and business, Meister’s Cheese factory. Joan graduated from St. Luke’s Catholic School in 1953. One year later she married Delmar Ring on April 24, 1954 and they had 58 years of married life together. They began their marriage living in a mobile home, then bought a home in walking distance of Plain and the cheese factory. Early in their marriage they purchased Rings Bar from Delmar’s parents. Eventually they moved to town and lived above the bar until retirement. Together they built their retirement home just down the alley from the bar. They enjoyed their new home for many years.

Together, Joan and Delmar ran Ring’s Bar, raised 6 children, helped with 16 grandchildren and4+ great grandchildren. After retirement, Joan helped out with the lunch crowd at Ring’s Bar. For years Joan was an Avon Representative. While retired, Joan and Delmar delivered 2 weekly shopper stoppers, in town and a rural route. She was a devout member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church. She attended every day that she possibly could. She began the day and ended the day saying the rosary and praying for everyone. She loved gardening, canning, baking and preparing meals for her family. Later in life Joan learned to crochet and made many intricate crocheted pieces of art. She enjoyed sewing craft items such as stuffed clowns and other crafts. Her favorite past time of all was finding, collecting and picking hickory nuts. She would drive to remote rural areas in search for nuts. She would climb fences, spook cows and crawl on the ground in search of every nut she could find. Then when home, she would clean, soak, crack and shell each nut carefully to get a perfect half or whole nut. She was a master at picking hickory nuts.

Joan leaves behind her 6 children, Ray (Marcia) Ring, Don (Sue) Ring, Pat Ring (Karl Pulver), Clem (Sherri) Ring, Mark (Lori) Ring and Allen (Jane) Ring, 16 grandchildren, 4+ great grandchildren, siblings, Agnes Estreen, Calvin “Bud” (Ruth) Meister, Verda Schmitz, Harley (Betty Ann) Meister, Jack (Lynn) Meister, many nieces, nephews and brothers and sisters-in-law.
