She then attended St. Mary's School of Nursing in 1928, graduating in 1931, as a registered nurse. Lucy was united in marriage to Arthur L. Johnson in Moline, Ill., on March 19, 1936. He preceded her in death on July 1, 1982. She worked at the Dane County Jail, as a Deputy Sheriff for 17 years, retiring in 1975. Lucy was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, an alumni of St. Mary's Hospital Nursing School, and a member of St. Mary's Auxiliary. She also volunteered at St. Mary's Hospital. Lucy is survived by her children, Brad (JoAnn) Johnson of Madison, and Frances (Howard) Helgeson of Madison; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Viola Wohlferd; and son-in-law, Don Paulson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; a son, Nick Johnson, on Jan. 3, 1999; a daughter, Pauline Paulson, in May 2003; her parents; and three brothers, Wilbert, Frank Jr., and Donald Meise. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. PATRICK'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 404 E. Main St., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 28, 2006. Entombment will be at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to HospiceCare Inc. or St. Patrick's Catholic Church. A special thank you to Harmony House of Madison and the staff at Hospice. Gunderson East Funeral and Cremation Centers.

He also enjoyed fishing on the Wisconsin River and playing cards. Mr. Weiss was a member St. Aloysius Catholic Church, a charter member of the Knights of Columbus, Council No. 3099, the Catholic Knights and the Holy Name Society. He was also a former director of Consumers Co-Op in Sauk City. Survivors include a daughter, Sister Jane of Racine; four sons, Robert (Joan) of Prairie du Sac, Daniel (Mary) of Spring Green, David (Myra) of Prairie du Sac, and Dennis (Gloria) of Mauston; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Wilfred (Elvie) of Plain; sisters-in-law, Alma Mueller of Baraboo, Caroline Schweiss and Gertie Bindl, both of Plain; nine step-children and their families, Les (Connie) Meise of Crestwood, Ill., Joanne (Ken) Volk of Plain, Karen (Red) Cresswell of Arena, Mary (Jack) Krueger of Watertown, Rick Meise of Prairie du Sac, Elaine (Al) Hellenbrand of Middleton, Terry (Debbie) Meise of Tempe, Ariz., Evy (Vern) Halverson of Barneveld, and Dan (Donna) Meise of Baraboo; nieces and nephews; other relatives; and friends. In addition to his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by two sons, Gerold and James; four brothers, Zeno, Joseph, Jack and Edmund; and two sisters, Martina Rieder and Lucy Ringelstetter. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. ALOYSIUS CATHOLIC CHURCH, Sauk City, at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. He spent 34 years as a fireman and nine years as the assistant chief. Bill is survived by a wife, Elvy Weiss; seven children, Linda (John) Goley, Pat (Steve) Bowdish, LaVonne (Andy) Anderson, Gary (Rhonda) Weiss, William R. (Connie) Weiss, Dorothy (John) Hill and Terry (Sheila) Weiss; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary (Schwartz) Weiss; five brothers, Zeno, Sep, Jack, Louis and Ed Weiss; two sisters, Martina Reider and Lucy Ringelstetter; and a grandson, Michael Hill. A Mass of Christian burial will be on Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2006, at 11:30 a.m. at ST. LUKE'S CATHOLIC CHURCH in Plain. Father Mike Resop will officiate with interment following at the St. Luke's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at ST. LUKE'S CATHOLIC CHURCH. The Plain American Legion Post 398 will be providing military rites. The Richardson-Stafford Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
