She was born on October 22, 1926, in Franklin Township, Wisconsin, the daughter of Alois and Mary (Ostermeier) Grauvogl. She was united in marriage to Karl A. Dorow. This marriage was blessed with two sons. Karl preceded her in death on February 26, 1977. Betty was employed with Reedsburg Utility for several years. She was a volunteer at the Reedsburg Food Pantry and the Sauk Co Humane Society.

She is survived by her son, Dr. Mark (Colleen) Dorow of Waukesha; granddaughter, Katie; daughter-in-law, Connie Dorow, of Hillsboro; along with other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and son, Dr. Steven Dorow in 2002.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Betty Dorow will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Reedsburg with the Reverend Patrick Wendler, Pastor officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the service at the church. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery at a later date.

He is survived by his wife, Mary of Sauk City; two sons, Jeff (Amy) Crosby of Sauk City, and Bob (Joy) Crosby of Kaukauna; a daughter, Kim (Mark) Haas of Sauk City; five grandchildren, Jamie, Kyle and Leah Crosby, Nikki Frey and Riley Haas; a brother, Orville (Erna) Crosby; two sisters, Marion Foster and Theo Carol (Hugh) Nelson; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Russell Crosby; and a brother-in-law, Leonard Foster. A funeral service will be held at HOOVERSON FUNERAL HOME, Sauk City, at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 27, 2004, with Pastor Robert Rieke officiating. Burial will be in the Sauk City Cemetery. Ken Ferstl received three academic degrees. He earned the Bachelor of Music degree in music education at what is now the University of North Texas. He worked at the Willis Library (UNT) as a cataloguer during 1963-64. He next studied for the Master of Library Science degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and received the degree in 1967.

Ken and Sondra returned to Denton in 1969 where Ken was appointed an instructor in the School of Library & Information Sciences. Except for a stint as a librarian at the Emily Fowler Public Library in Denton, Ken taught at the University of North Texas for 20 ½ years. He left in the early 1970’s to study at Indiana University – Bloomington where he received the Ph.D. in Library Science (1977).

Ken’s specialties in librarianship were cataloging and classification, public libraries, and young adult services. He was particularly active in the Texas Library Association, serving as Program Co-Chair for several of the annual conferences.

Following a stroke and brain aneurysm in 1993, Ken took disability retirement. He recovered sufficiently to travel with Sondra and to enjoy attending opera and theatre performances, particularly in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Ken also served two terms as chair of the Public Library Board.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sondra, his sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Dick Abbott, and his brother, Allen Ferstl. He is survived by his twin sister Karen Ferstl; his sister Kolleen Johnson, his sister-in-law, Sue Ferstl, and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday, October 4, 2018 at Roselawn Memorial Park, Denton.

Mary was born February 16, 1943 in Reedsburg, WI to Vera T. (nee Grauvogl) and Joseph H. Ferstl. She was united in marriage to Richard H. Abbott “Dick” on October 16, 1971 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Reedsburg. She graduated St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Marshfield, WI and was a registered nurse at Hartford Memorial Hospital for 30 years. After retirement she was a volunteer at the hospital’s gift shop for several years. Together, Mary and Dick were longtime members of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Hartford. She was a member of the Hartford Senior Friends and also a past president of the Edgewater Condominiums Association. Mary enjoyed: baking for her family and for church functions, bowling, crocheting, knitting, crossword puzzles and word searches, reading Danielle Steele books, watching Wheel of Fortune and shows at the Fireside Dinner Theatre, taking day bus trips with Dick, and most of all she loved time with her family and taking care of her grandchildren.

Mary is survived by her loving children, Brian (Sara) Abbott of Cornell, James “Jim” Abbott of Hartford, and Lynn (Dan) Biertzer of Hartford; cherished grandchildren, Grady and Emma Abbott of Cornell, and Evan and Lucy Biertzer of Hartford; dear siblings, Karen Ferstl of Sheboygan, Kenneth Ferstl of Denton, Texas, Kolleen Johnson of Cottage Grove; dear siblings-in-law, Sue Ferstl of La Valle; Dorothy Waddell of Grafton, Lenore Abbott of Cudahy, Douglas (Sue) Abbott of Waukesha, and Dianne Abbott of Yucaipa, CA. She is further survived by loved nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 46 years, Richard H. Abbott; parents; parents-in-law, Douglas G. and Lucille E. (nee Wagner) Abbott; brother, Allen Ferstl; and siblings-in-law, Andrew Johnson, Sondra Ferstl, Donald Abbott and Tom (Delores) Abbott, and Tom Waddell.

Memorial Mass for Mary will be celebrated Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 11:00a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church (4886 WI-175 Hartford, WI 53027) with Fr. Davies Edassery officiating. Family will greet relatives and friends at the church on Saturday from 9:00a.m.-10:45a.m. with fellowship to follow.

He was preceded in death by his daughter: Ariel, on February 9, 2003; his parents and his father and mother-in-law: Gene and Pat Schutt. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:30 A.M. on Thursday, October 8, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Reedsburg with Father David Carrano officiating. Private family interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the Hoof Funeral Home where a Scripture Service will be held at 7:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials toward an education fund for his daughters would be appreciated. The Hoof Funeral Home is serving the family.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Ron Jr., a brother, Ronnie; a sister, Iris; father-in-law, Carroll Cresswell Sr; mother-in-law, Minnie Cresswell; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and June James; brother-in-law, Carroll Cresswell Jr; and a special nephew-in-law, Kenneth "Kris" Clark.
