Fifth Street, died at a Sioux City hospital, Friday after a brief illness. Mrs. Abraham, born at Remsen, IA., November 11, 1910, had been a resident of Sioux City since 1928. She was married to George Abraham here November 26, 1936. She was employed as a bookkeeper by the Fred Davenport Insurance Co. She belonged to St. Boniface Catholic church and its Rosary society; was a board member of the Good Shepherd auxiliary, was on the girl scout council at St. Boniface parish and belonged to the Catholic Daughters of America. She was financial secretary of Court Ave Maria of the C. D. A. for two terms before retiring last spring. Survivors include the widower; two daughters, Mrs. William Eimers of Omaha and Miss Sharon Abraham of the home; her mother Mrs. Anna Paskert of LeMars, IA; a brother Everald Paskert of Remsen, and one grandchild. The box was taken to the Mannin-O'Toole funeral home.1

Mr. Paskert was born June 20, 1882 at Remsen. He married Anna Niesius January 19, 1910 at Remsen. Mr. Paskert owned and operated a (?) station at Remsen from 1926 until 1949 and established the Home Oil Company there. The family moved to Le Mars in 1949. Mr. Paskert was a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic church at Remsen and of Msgr. Sebemmer council, Knights of Columbus there. Survivors include the widow; a daughter, (Vera) Mrs. George Abraham of Sioux City; a son, Everald of Remsen; a sister, Mrs. Michael Frank of Sioux City; and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 9:30 am Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic church in Le Mars. Rt. Rev. Msgr. J. D. Fisch will officiate and burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery at Remsen under direction of the Wiltgen-Luedtke funeral home. The rosary will be recited at 8pm Monday (tonight) at the funeral home. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon on Monday until service time. He was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Paul Paskert.1

Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Wednesday, with a parish rosary at 3 p.m., a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus rosary at 8 p.m., all at Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.
Mr. Paskert was born Dec. 15, 1912, in rural Remsen, the son of Anton and Anna (Neisius) Paskert. He was raised and educated in the Remsen area, graduating from St. Mary's High School in 1930. He then attended the National Business Training School in Sioux City, graduating with a degree in accounting.
He farmed near Remsen.
He married Lucille Gibbons on May 22, 1945, in Akron, Iowa. The couple retired and moved into Remsen in 1979.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Ronald and Judy of Urbandale, Iowa, and Tony and Tammy of Remsen; a daughter and her husband, Pat and Gary Lewis of Sioux City; and six grandchildren, Luke, Becky, Katie, Kelsey and Coleton Paskert and Ann Hughes.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Hughes; and a sister, Vera Abraham.

He married Phyllis Johnson on March 19, 1952 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Elk Point. The couple resided on a farm north of Spink. He also was an agent/director for Farm Mutual Fire and Wind Insurance Company. He was a member of Brule Creek Lutheran Church and served on the Spink Township board. Among his hobbies and interests, he loved gardening and woodworking. He took great pride in his rose garden, yard and spent his time playing bingo. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; a son, Larry (Holly) Solem of Spink; a daughter, Kathy Solem of Beresford, SD; a grandson, Ben Solem of Spink; granddaughters, Tami (Brad) Olsen of Beresford, Jamie (Mark) Hoffman of Ethan, SD, and Melissa Fickbohm of Beresford; eight great-grandchildren, Katana and David Olsen, Austen and Emiley Hoffman, Riley and Aubrey Twedt, and Irelyn and Jax Stanlee Fickbohm; a sister, Vivian Johnson of Beresford; and his faithful dog, Sandy. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Selma Solem.

She grew up and attended school in Elk Point. She met and married Stanley Justine Solem on March 19, 1952 in Elk Point, SD. They lived on the Solem family farm just north of Spink, SD their entire married life. There they raised their two children, Larry and Kathy and spent many hours playing with their grandchildren. As well as helping on the farm, Phyllis worked in town driving school bus for the Elk Point School District and worked 8 years with the USDA Soil Conservation Service. She spent 25 years working for the SD Department of Social Services-Food Stamp Program and retired in 1998. She was a long time member of Brule Creek Lutheran Church and was active in the WELCA ladies group.

Phyllis and Stanley enjoyed gardening, camping and fishing, playing Spink rummy for pennies, going to Bingo and their trips to Las Vegas and Hawaii. Phyllis sewed quilts for all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved singing hymns with the congregation during church services. She attended tons of church programs and school events to watch her grandchildren perform. Later in life she loved to watch her great grandchildren play in school sporting events. She also enjoyed her “Word Search” puzzles and putting puzzles together with family. Phyllis always had a great love and compassion for the family pets and was always sure to share her food with them.

Phyllis passed away on March 14, 2023 at the age of 88 years at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD surrounded by her loved ones. Left to cherish her memory are her children Larry (Holly) Solem of Vermillion, SD and daughter Kathy Solem of Akron, SD; her grandchildren Ben Solem of Vermillion, Tami (Brad) Olsen of Beresford, Jamie (Mark) Hoffman of Ethan, Melissa (Ryan) Fickbohm of Beresford and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Walter (Bunny) Davis of Vermillion, her sister-in-law Norma Davis of Elk Point and many nieces and nephews. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother Floyd Davis, her sister Doris Jensen, and her sisters-in-law Vivian Johnson (Ernest) and Phyllis Davis.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 16, 2013, at the Decorah Lutheran Church, 309 Winnebago Street, Decorah, IA, with Rev. David Sorenson and Rev. Bryan Robertson presiding. Burial will be in Phelps Cemetery, Decorah, IA.

Friends may call from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., on Sunday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah, and also after 10:00 a.m., at the church on Monday morning. It was Marge's wishes to have her casket closed.

Marge is survived by her seven children: Sandy (Ron) Stover, Decorah, IA; Mary (Kim) Glock, Decorah, IA; Sue (Dave) Crotty, Hillsboro, OR; David (Julie) Solem, Pasco, WA; Nancy (Steve) Motkowski, Marinette, WI; Trudy (Randy) Keller, Novato, CA; and Peggy (Bruce) Simpson, Sioux City, IA. Marge was a grandmother to: Brandon (Megan) Simpson, Tyler Simpson, Maggie Motkowski, Alex Keller, Jackson Keller, Tracey (Travis) Casey, Allison Stover and Travis. She was a great grandma to Harper Casey. She was a special step-grandma to Chad and Daren Tolley, and Jason Motkowski. She was a step-great grandma to Julie Rose Tolley, Brandi Tolley, Kaylin Tolley, Tony Tolley, Gabe Tolley and Lily Motkowski, as well as a Simpson baby to be born in November. Also surviving is a sister-in-law: Paula Tracey, Burlington, IA. As well as Dusty Solem, Prairie Du Chien, WI, and many cousins, nephews and nieces.

Marge was preceded in death by her parents: James and Helen (Thiel) Tracey. Two brothers: Dick Tracey and Dale (Lois) Tracey. Her father and mother-in-law: Albert and Clara Solem. Sisters and brothers-in-law: Sylvia (Norman) Holthe and Lew (Laura) Solem.
