Joanie was born on March 24, 1956 to Gerald and Irene Kleinschmit in Yankton, SD. She grew up near Bow Valley with seven brothers and two sisters, and was especially close to the two youngest boys, spending countless hours playing house and climbing around old cars back in their trees.

One day, while working in the kitchen at Hillside, her soulmate entered the café and worked up the courage to ask her out. Daryl and Joan have been best friends ever since. They shared 45 years together creating a beautiful family of their own.

Joan lived a life of love and service to others. She provided selfless care for 36 years to the dear sisters at the Sacred Heart Monastery in Yankton. They were always in her heart. She also had a special way with babies and doted on all of her grandchildren. There was nothing she couldn’t do, from sewing Halloween costumes for her children, to swinging a hammer. She loved being outdoors and spent long hours gardening and making her home as beautiful as she was. She will be dearly missed by those who knew her.

Joan is survived by her husband, Daryl; four daughters and spouses, Sonya and Gary Kathol (Scottsdale, AZ), April and Jake LeFebvere (Yankton, SD), Robin Lammers (Omaha, NE), Dawn and Lucas Lauer (Hartington, NE); and son Daryl Lammers (Sioux Falls, SD); eight grandsons and seven granddaughters; 5 brothers and spouses Dennis & Pat Kleinschmit of Yankton, SD, Jerry & Sharon Kleinschmit of Yankton, SD, Clinton & Chevonne Kleinschmit of Madison, SD, Roman Kleinschmit of Fordyce, NE, Dale & Sandy Kleinschmit of Norfolk, NE; sister Eileen Kusel of Hartington, NE; sisters-in-law Connie Kleinschmit of Wichita, KS and Carolyn Kleinschmit of Menominee, NE.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved firstborn, Arlan; precious baby granddaughter, Diva; siblings Charles Kleinschmit, Ronald Kleinschmit, and Dorothy Kleinschmit; brother-in-law Wylie Kusel, and sister-in-law Phyllis Kleinschmit.

Francis Kleinschmit was born May 18, 1941, in Hartington, to Bernard and Pauline (Arens) Kleinschmit. Having attended the area schools, Francis was a friend of many. He graduated from Holy Trinity High School and went on to marry the love of his life, Nadine Juffer, and began their life together working on his farm. Francis worked on the farm for 13 years and loved it with all of his heart. Francis was a farmer through and through. He and Nadine were blessed with five children while living on the farm, and he loved working the fields with the kids and having them work alongside him. As time went on, the family decided to embark on a new journey and move to the city – Omaha, in 1973. Who knew the City of Omaha is where Francis would ultimately call home until the day he passed away. The city brought so many great moments, memories and adventures to Francis throughout his life. The moment Francis hit the big city, his strong work ethic and entrepreneurial passion kicked in. Francis held several jobs throughout his life, which offered him great experiences and adventures. In 1973, Francis decided to start his own building company called “Kleinschmit Builders,” where he built over 100 custom homes for the greater Omaha area during the eight years within the industry. Francis loved to work with his hands and be a part of something bigger than himself. In 1975, Francis and Nadine welcomed their sixth child to the family and knew their family was now complete. As Francis concluded his building career in 1980, he again found himself wanting to try new things. He started a tire company called “All Tires,” where he got to work alongside his brother-in-law, Chuck Juffer, for four wonderful years. After four years, he realized he wanted to expand his love for vehicles and pursue something more significant that he could share with two of his sons. In 1984, Francis started “Investment Motors,” a successful used car lot, where he worked alongside two of his sons, Troy and Ty Kleinschmit, until the day he passed away. Francis loved selling cars, meeting new people and helping them get into the car of their dreams, but most of all, he loved working with his kids.

Francis was a man of God who dedicated his time weekly to his parish Mary Our Queen Church. He worked harder than anyone, provided for his family, was a husband who loved his wife, a father who loved his children, and a friend to many. When Francis wasn’t working, he loved farming, cars, hunting, riding his motorcycle and most of all, his family.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nadine; his six children, Lisa, Tony, Todd, Troy, Ty and Jennifer; their families, many grandchildren and his brothers and sisters, Norma Sudbeck, Marlene Dendinger and Gary Kleinschmit.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Pauline (Arens) Kleinschmit.
