He was a member of the Catholic Order of Forresters and the Holy Ghost Holy Name Society. Surviving are his wife, the former Clara Elliott; a daughter, Mrs. Merlin (Joyce) Puls of Cuba City; two sons, William of Cuba City and Roger of Kieler, Wis; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Sophie Reiter of Platteville, Wis., Mrs. Phillip (Mabel) Ames and Mrs. Oliver (Ruth) Bierman, both of Potosi, Wis., and Mrs. Clyde (Bessie) Clauer of Beetown, Wis., and three brothers, Thomas and Harry, both of Platteville, and Bernard of Dickeyville, Wis.

He was united in marriage to the former Theresa Langkamp on April 17, 1917. They farmed in Cornelia area until retiring in 1964 at which time they moved to Platteville. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Platteville. Survivors are two sons, Harold, Platteville, and Leland, Lancaster; two daughters, Mrs. Harlyn (Alberta) Wieland, Winthrop, Ia., and Mrs. Robert (Helen) Smith, Cuba City; 24 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Harry and Tom Udelhofen, both of Platteville, Maynard and Bernard Udelhofen, both of Dickeyville; four sisters, Mrs. Sophie Reiter, Platteville, Mrs. Oliver (Ruth) Bierman and Mrs. Phillip (Mabel) Ames, both of Potosi, and Mrs. Clyde (Bessie) Clauer, Dubuque, Ia. Funeral arrangements were made by the Mergen Funeral home, Platteville.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Platteville; Leo M. Kane American Legion Post 42, Platteville; and the Rural Mail Carriers Association.
He is survived by his wife, Marcella; his stepmother, Mrs. Magdalen Udelhofen, Platteville; one son, Dennis, Platteville; two daughters, Connie (Mrs. Michael) Gehrke, Stoughton and Margaret (Mrs. Gary) Klar, Marquette, Mich; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas; and one son, Thomas, in 1952.
Services were held Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Platteville. The Rev. Steve Zwettler presided. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery. Mergen Funeral Home, Platteville, was in charge of arrangements.
