Dolores was born July 20, 1928 in St. Helena, NE to Anton and Bertha (Jansen) Wiepen. She grew up in the St. Helena, NE area where she attended rural school until the 8th grade. At this time, Dolores cared for her disabled mother. On August 30, 1950, she was united in marriage to Julius Frank Schmitt in St. Helena, NE. To this union, they were granted four children: Al, Janine, Betty, and Gary. They farmed in the Crofton area until purchasing a farm northeast of Fordyce where they farmed for 34 years. They moved to Yankton where she was employed at various places but was very proud of being employed by Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in the dietary department for 15 years. Her devotion to her husband and children was endless. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, and the Ladies Guild. She was especially fond of listening to polka music, loved gardening, fancy work (embroidering), playing with her grandchildren, and socializing with her many friends and relatives.
Her memory will be cherished by her husband, Julius of Fordyce, NE; her four children: Al Schmitt and his two children, Jennifer and Michael of West Point, UT, Janine (Mark) Berke and their two children, Zachary and Allyson of Simpsonville, SC, Betty (Bassam) Yousef and their four children, Raed, Rania, Rami, and Rashad of Yankton, SD, and Gary Schmitt of Fordyce, NE; one sister, Anna Pinkelman of St. James, NE; two brothers: Alphonse (Gertrude) Wiepen of St. Helena, NE and Francis (Irma) Wiepen of St. Helena, NE; one-sister-law, Joyce Wiepen of St. Helena, NE and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Bertha Wiepen, a brother, Bruno Wiepen, a nephew, Duane Wiepen, and a brother-in-law, Edwin Pinkelman.

Face masks and social distancing are required for the visitation and funeral. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington.

Pallbearers will be Kale Wiepen, Jake Wiepen, Kyle Wiepen, Michael Lammers, Heath Lammers, Chase Lammers, Miles Lammers, and Sonny Lammers. Honorary pallbearers will be Alphonse’s grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Alphonse Henry was born on August 6, 1926 in Yankton, SD to Anton Frank and Bertha Mary (Jansen) Wiepen. He grew up on a farm near St. Helena and attended country school until the 8th grade. He helped his dad and brothers on the farm until he married Gertrude Louise Day on August 23, 1949 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Newcastle, Nebraska. They purchased a farm in the St. Helena area and Alphonse continued working the farm until he retired in 2013, then moving to Yankton, SD. Alphonse had been a resident of Park View Haven Nursing Home in Coleridge for the past several years.

Alphonse belonged to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Helena. He liked to hunt pheasants and deer, play cards, and being a part of the Social Club. Alphonse loved to visit with people and tended to tease his grandchildren and other children.

Alphonse is survived by his eight children and spouses, Bonnie (Guy) Kohles of Crofton, NE, Emery (Claudette) Wiepen of St. Helena, NE, Glendy (Vernon) Lammers of Hartington, NE, Phyllis Jansen of Yankton, SD, Judy Bonertz of Sioux City, IA, Joan (Steve) Jansen of Fordyce, NE, Christy Hochstein of Yankton, SD, Jeff (Jan) Wiepen of Omaha, NE; sister-in-law Irma Wiepen of St. Helena, NE; 27 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren; many dear nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Anton and Bertha; wife Gertrude on 12/30/2019 at the age of 93 years; two sons, Duane in 1977, and infant son Gerard; son-in-law, John Jansen; sisters Anna (Edwin) Pinkelman, Dolores (Julius) Schmitt, Frances Wiepen, Bruno (Joyce) Wiepen; brothers and sisters-in-law, Marjorie (Leonard) Pinkelman, Betty (Pat) Kneifl, Zeta (Jerome) Boeckman, and Francis and Gerald Day.

Marcella was born on March 17, 1918 in rural Bow Valley, Nebraska to Frank and Bernadine (Steffen) Bruening. When she was 2 ½ years old the family moved to a farm on the south edge of Hartington. She graduated from Holy Trinity High School in 1935. Marcella married Harold H. Hoffart on February 14, 1939 at Hartington. They worked for Dwight Burney on a farm west of Hartington and then in 1945 they moved to a farm east of Coleridge in the Norris Community. Harold died on April 14, 1979 at the age of 63 and at that time she moved into Coleridge where she worked for several businesses.
Marcella was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and Ladies Guild in Coleridge and was a Eucharistic Minister for many years, and also Christian Mothers. She was a member of the Norris Homemaking Club and enjoyed line dancing, playing cards, reading, doing crossword puzzles and traveling to visit her kids.
Marcella is survived by 4 children, Ruth Ann (Henry) Kusel of Riverton, Wyoming; Jerry (Jean) Hoffart of Hartington, Galen (Leslie) Hoffart of Coleridge; Randy (Rebecca) Sutherland Hoffart of Hartington; a daughter-in-law, Joann Hoffart of Coleridge; 16 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and her good friend, Kate Hansen, of Coleridge.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Larry Hoffart, infant son John Francis Hoffart and 3 brothers, Fredolin "Fritz", Edgar and Marcus "Mike" Bruening.

Larry Dean Hoffart was born on January 14, 1940 in Hartington, NE to Harold and Marcella (Bruening) Hoffart. Larry attended District 30 Noris School from the 1st thru 8th grade and graduated from Coleridge High School in 1957. He went to Wayne State College on a football scholarship for one year prior to joining the U.S. Navy in 1958. Larry lived in Taiwan, the Phillipines, San Francisco, CA, and San Diego, CA while serving 20 years in the Navy until he retired in 1978. He then moved to Coleridge in 1978 and went to refrigeration school in Norfolk, NE at Northeast Community College. Larry drove the Cedar County Handibus for 17 years until 1997.
He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Coleridge, Hartington VFW Post #5283 and belonged to the Coleridge American Legion Post #114.
Larry is survived by his wife, Joann of Coleridge; 3 children and spouses, John and Teri Hoffart of Coleridge, Michael Hoffart of Abilene, KS, Sharon and Kirk Olsen of Coleridge; 8 grandchildren; mother, Marcella Hoffart of Coleridge; one sister, Ruth and husband Henry Kusel of Riverton, Wyoming; 3 brothers and spouses, Gerry and Jean Hoffart of Hartington, Galen and Leslie Hoffart of Coleridge, and Randy and Rebecca Hoffart of Bastrop, TX; several aunts and uncles.

Lucy Christina (Kleinschmit) Brotsky was born Dec. 27, 1912, at Menominee, Neb., to Henry and Mary (Kast) Kleinschmit. She moved to Gregory County with her family, where she attended country school. On Aug. 17, 1933, she married Floyd T. Brotsky at Paxton. The Brotskys ranched in the Paxton area until 1956 when they moved to Brookings. Lucy worked for the J.C. Penney and Ben Franklin stores in Brookings. Floyd died January 8, 1975.

Lucy was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Parish in Brookings and the Catholic Daughters. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, playing bridge, music, traveling, and going for rides in the countryside.

Survivors include three sons: Robert (Eleda) Brotsky of Brookings; Kenneth (Judith) Brotsky of Grand Junction, Colo., and Larry (Claudine) Brotsky of Surprise, Ariz; a daughter, Kathryn (Ron) Schultz of Sioux Falls; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers: Ralph (Regina) Kleinschmit of Mt. Angel, Ore., and Harold (Lillian) Kleinschmit of Wall. She was preceded in death by five brothers: Frank, Joseph, Lawrence, Peter, and Paul; two sisters, Elizabeth and Rosina; and a grandson, Mark Brotsky.

Death2 November 2008Harold Jacob Kleinschmit died on 2 November 2008 at age 83 Harold Jacob Kleinschmit was born June 18, 1925, on a farm near Dallas, South Dakota, the son of Henry and Mary (Kast) Kleinschmit. He grew up and received his education at the Meadowbrook Rural School in that area. After his education, he remained on the farm helping his father.
At the age of eighteen, he entered the US Army on August 26, 1944. He served in World War II, receiving the Bronze Star. After his honorable discharge on July 9, 1946, Harold returned to the farm.
Harold married his country sweet heart Lillian Vrzal on September 17, 1946, in Paxton, South Dakota. After their marriage they remained on the farm until December, when they moved to Oregon, where Harold worked at a flax plant in Mt. Angel. After his father’s death, they moved to Wall, South Dakota, where he worked construction with his brother Frank. After nearly six years, Harold and Lillian moved back to the Dallas area to help Lillian’s father on their farm. After three years on the farm, they returned to Wall and once again joined his brother in the heavy construction business. After retiring from construction, they moved to the Wall Motel where Harold was the maintenance man for a number of years. In November 2007, they moved into Prairie Village where they have since resided.
Harold was a member of the Carroll-McDonald American Legion Post #246 of Wall, and the FJ Willuweit VFW Post #9120 of Quinn. In addition to his family, he enjoyed spending time woodworking, model airplanes and model T’s.
Survivors include his wife Lillian Kleinschmit of Wall; three daughters Peggy Aby and her husband Don of Wall, Linda Freeman and her husband Tom of Rapid City, and Karen Nissel and her husband Walter of Walnut Grove, Minnesota; one son Kevin Kleinschmit and his wife Sarah of Jefferson City, Missouri; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one brother Ralph Kleinschmit of Mt. Angel, Oregon; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers Pete, Paul, Joe, Frank, and Lawrence Kleinschmit; and three sisters Rosina Bunker, Lizzy Messman, and Lucy Brotsky.
Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, November 9, at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Wall.
Military graveside services were held 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 10, at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
