Birth8 March 1834Jacob Fenner was born on 8 March 1834 at Calhoun, Illinois, also reported as 07 Apr 1834 and 07 Mar 1834.
He was the son of Jacob Fenner and Elizabeth Levica Marsh.
Marriage6 November 1864Jacob Fenner married Eunice O. Young, daughter of George W. Young and Mary (?), on 6 November 1864.
Marriage22 October 1865Jacob Fenner married Phoebe Daniels, daughter of Nelson Daniels and Lovinia Reeves, on 22 October 1865 at Arena, Iowa, Wisconsin, by Justice of the Peace Isaac Farwell.
Death9 March 1924Jacob Fenner died on 9 March 1924 at Hot Springs, Aurora, South Dakota, at age 90 A large number of friends gathered at the Methodist church last Friday afternoon to pay their last respects to Jacob Fenner, for many years a resident of this community and one of the last of the veterans who fought through the Civil War. The remains were escorted from the house to the church by the colors firing squad and members of the local post of the American Legion and by a large number of Odd Fellows from the local camp, in which order Mr. Fenner had been a member for 58 years. At the church Rev. Tagg gave a very fitting and appropriate sermon for the occasion. Music was rendered by a choir composed of Mrs. Hoff, Mrs. Luovinger, Mr. Hilton and Mr. Walter Dodds. From the church the remains were escorted to the cemetery by the Legion and Odd Fellows besides many friends. After the burial services the military honors of three volleys were fired, after which Taps was blown. Mr. Fenner had been in very poor health for a long time and his death while not unexpected still was a grevious shock to his relatives, especially the faithful wife who has been his constant companion through all. Many friends express sincere sympathy to the bereaved family. OBITUARY: Jacob Fenner was born March 7th, 1834, in Calhoun County, Ill., where he lived with his parents until a young man, when he joined the army June 1st, 1861. He went into active service with Company B 6th Mo. Regiment of Infantry, with which he saw three years of strenuous service, being engaged in the notable battles of Champion, Ill, and Vicksburg. It was at Vicksburg that he lost a limb by cannon ball and was discharged October 14th, because of this wound. Mr. Fenner never let his lameness interfere with his purpose to make a living and do his share of the world's work. On October 22nd, 1865, Mr. Fenner married Miss Phoeba Daniels at Arena, Wis., and to this union were born seven children: Stella, George, Jacob, Edward, Nellie, John and Jennie. Stella and Jacob died in infancy, but the other children grew to young manhood and womanhood with their parents. It was in August 1895 that Nellie succumbed to sickness at the age of seventeen and George was drowned in June 1896, leaving but the three children and the faithful wife to survive the husband and father. Of the children, Edward and John live at White Lake and Nellie lives in Tacoma, Washington. Coming to South Dakota in 1884, Mr. Fenner has ever been known as a hard worker and a good citizen, and through many hardships and losses has fought courageously on until at the age of ninety years and one day, he ceased that battle and in the presence of the devoted wife, who had long given him the most tender care, he passed away. He leaves to mourn his loss a wife, three children and grandchildren and other relatives, besides the many friends who will all remember his courage and ever miss him.

Alois A. Bindl of Franklin is the first farmer in this locality to name his farm and record the name in the office of the register of deeds. A new law makes a name so recorded of the same effect as a trademark, and the name cannot be used by others. Mr. Bindl has named his farm, "Pleasant Valley Stock Farm." It is the place upon which he was born and has been owned by his father, Joseph Bindl, and his grandfather, Ignatz Bindl, who purchased it when he came from Germany, fifty years ago.
