     Richard Morris Smith was born on 25 April 1851 at Pulaski, Illinois. He was the son of George Washington Smith and Sarah Shoemaker. Richard Morris Smith married Martha Loretta Crotchett, daughter of Thomas Crotchett and Martha Susan Tanner, on 30 May 1881 at Lyon, Kansas. Richard Morris Smith died on 27 February 1934 at Buffalo, Harper, Oklahoma, at age 82 Richard M. Smith, early settler in the Austin Valley neighborhood, died at his home 12 miles south of Buffalo at 3:45 Tuesday morning. He had been suffering from kidney trouble for months, and due to his age, the illness failed to yield to medical treatment. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J.W. Chapman at the Buffalo Baptist Church at 2:00 o'clock Wednesday afternoon and burial was in High Point cemetery with Avant Evans in charge.

Richard Morris Smith was born in Pulaski County, ILL., April 25, 1851, and died February 27, 1934, aged 82 years, 10 months and 2 days. He was married to Miss Lo Retta Crotchett at West Lne, Mo., May 30, 1881, and to this union two daughters and one son were born, all of whom are still living. The surviving relatives are: His wife, Mrs. Lo Retta Smith, his children, Mrs. Alex Austin, Thomas W. Smith, and Mrs. William Lawson, all of Harper County, 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; also one sister, Mrs. Lou Judd, La Junta, Colo; one half sister, Mrs. Ola Dunn, Kansas City, Mo; a sister in law, Mrs. Angie Smith, Madison, Kan., besides other relatives and a host of friends.

Mr. Smith came to Harper County in 1907 and since that time has made his home on the farm where he passed away. He was a member of the Methodist Church for 47 years, and was known to all as a straightforward, Christian man, whose word was good and whose friendship was valued by all with whom he came in contact. He was buried on 28 February 1934 at High Point Cemetery, Harper, Oklahoma.
