Marie Austin died on 9 July 2004 at age 89 Marie Mall, 89, died July 9 at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. She was born May 23, 1915, at Madison, the daughter of Fredrick Clarence Austin and Jeanette Allen Crotchett. She married Clyde David Walford on Feb. 23, 1935, at Eureka. He died April 26, 1971. She married Clarence M. Mall on July 7, 1976, at Tescott. He died Nov. 3, 1987. A long-time Ellinwood resident, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Mall was a member of United Methodist Church, Rebecca Lodge, both of Ellinwood, Eastern Star No. 487 of Claflin, Heritage Club and volunteer worker at the Ellinwood Thrift Shop.
Survivors include a son, Donald Dee Walford, Owasso, Okla; a daughter, Patricia Irene Schartz, Ellinwood; stepdaughter, Lucille Reeder, Wichita; sister, Helen Erwin, Wichita; stepsons Orville Mall of Seattle, Wash., and Roy Mall of McAllen, Texas; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Kimple Funeral Chapel in Ellinwood with the Rev. Vernon Maelzer officiating. Burial will be a Hillcrest Cemetery in Great Bend. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Ellinwood Ambulance Fund or Woodhaven Care Center, in care of the funeral home.

He was born in Canada in October, 1852, but when he was three
years of age, in 1855, his parents, Andrew and Margaret (Howard)
Mears, came to the United States and settled on eighty acres of land in
Franklin Township of Sauk County. To the clearing and developing of
this land his father gave the best of his subsequent years. Both parents
are now deceased. Their children were: John, Mary (now deceased),
Martin, Nellie, Michael, James, Johanna, Margaret (deceased) and
Andrew.
John Mears was reared and educated in Sauk County, attended the
public schools, and in 1880 he located on the farm of 160 acres which
he still owns and manages as a general farming and stock-raising enterprise.
Besides farming he has also long been active as a builder and contractor. A capable man in the management of his. own affairs, Mr.
Mears has again and again been sought for public duty, and is now and
for a number of years has been chairman of the town board and has
also filled various school offices. He is a democrat in politics and a member
of the Catholic Church.
November 25, 1880, he married Miss Helen Farrell, daughter of Patrick
and Julia (Harrington) Farrell, of Bear Creek Township. Mr. and
Mrs. Mears have five children: James, who married Molly Purcell;
Thomas, who married Stella Mears; Mary, wife of M. T. Drea; Margaret,
unmarried; and William, who -married Clara Fargen. The daughter
Mary has six children, named: Willie, Catherine, Margaret, Joseph,
Jane and Lawrence. William and wife have two children: Henry and
Julia, twins, born in 1917. He was listed as the head of a family on the 1920 Census at Bear Creek, Sauk, Wisconsin.7 He was listed as father in William P. Mears's household on the 1930 Census at Bear Creek, Sauk, Wisconsin; Living next door to Martin Mears.8

Sommervold, son of Peter Alfred Sommervold and Olivia Abraham, on 14 February 1943 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Akron, Plymouth, Iowa. Gertrude F. Popken died on 30 December 2014 at Akron, Iowa, at age 96 Gertrude "Gert" Sommervold, 96, of Akron, Iowa passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at the Akron Care Center in Akron.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Union Creek Lutheran Church, rural Akron, Iowa. Reverend Carla Nelson will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday and following the service during a time of lunch and fellowship, all at the church. Gertrude F. Popken was born December 20, 1918 on the family farm in Preston Township, rural Plymouth County, Iowa, the daughter of Otto and Emma (Schwarting) Popken. She was baptized into the Christian faith at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church - Preston Township. She attended country school in Preston Township.

Gert was united in marriage to Alvin Sommervold on February 14, 1943 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron. She and Alvin farmed in Union County, South Dakota for over 40 years. In 1984, they retired and moved to Akron. Alvin passed away May 29, 2000. In December of 2009, Gert became a resident of the Akron Care Center.

Gert was a longtime member of Union Creek Lutheran Church where she was active in W.E.L.C.A. for many years. Through the years, Gert enjoyed gardening, ceramics, and watching and feeding birds. She will be remembered for her cooking and baking, especially her pies. But most of all, she loved the times spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her son and his wife: Alan and April Sommervold of rural Akron; a granddaughter: Tara (Greg) Pirak of Gayville, SD and their children, Brett, Derek, and William; a granddaughter: Amber (Jim) Saloum of Sioux Falls, SD, and their daughter, Elena; a sister: Ella (Gordon) Swanson of Sioux City, IA; a brother in law: Arlo Sommervold of Sioux Falls, SD; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alvin; her siblings: Bill (Regina) Popken and Lenore (Roland) Rohlfs; and her sisters in law: Mary Sommervold, Opal (Jay) Robertson, and Pearl (Henry) Wilkens.
