A man of deep faith and loyalty to his local church, Chester was one of the youngest to achieve the position of Railroad Conductor, a profession that spanned 33 years of loyal service with the Nickel Plate and, later, Norfolk and Western railroads out of Frankfort, Ind.
As well as being a lifelong member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, Chester also was a long-standing member of the Masonic Lodge, achieving the 32nd degree.
His greatest joy and unsurpassed pride was in the family that he and his wife, Deloris, loved and raised throughout the nearly 65 years of marriage.
Chester and Deloris lived most of their lives in Frankfort, and later, Jefferson, Ind. They resided in retirement in both Logansport and Gulfport, Miss., before moving to Wake Forest, N.C. in 1996.
He is survived by his cherished wife and their four children, son David and his wife, Elaine, Arvada, Colo; his daughter Pamela and her husband, Rick Brewer, Noblesville; son Tim and his wife, Chris, Bunn, N.C; and son Mark and his wife, Cindy, Wake Forest, N.C.
Chester also is survived by 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Three sisters, Ethel Boyd, Goldie Lykken and Fern Lykken; and two brothers, Jennings Newbold and Russell Newbold; and one daughter, Sandra, preceded in death.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, in Triangle Bible Church, 2309 Laurelbrook St., Raleigh, N.C. 27604.
Interment will be in Wake Forest Cemetery.

Mr. Engelbrecht was born March 26, 1892, at Remsen, a son of the late Gehrt and Amanda (Wiekhorst) Engelbrecht. He married Olea Wevik Feb. 2, 1919, at Sioux City.
He was a retired farmer and had lived at Alcester, SD and at Remsen until retiring to LeMars in 1951.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife in 1953.
Mr. Engelbrecht was a member of St. John's American Lutheran church, American Legion and a veteran of world war 1.
Survivors are a son, Melvin of LeMars; two brothers, Emil of St. Paul, Minn., and Alfred of LeMars; four sisters, Mrs. Henry (Katie) Rann of Remsen, Mrs. George (Annie) Krantz of Canistota, SD, Mrs. Edward (Alma) Wulf of LeMars and Mrs. C. W. (Vera) Wall of Helena, Mont.1
