He was born on June 28, 1933 in Baraboo, the son of Henry W. and Alvina (Reinecke) Schwenkhoff. Hank was a 1951 graduate of Reedsburg High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1956 through 1958. On October 11, 1975, he was married to the former Mary Edwards. Hank was a lifelong farmer in the Town of Westfield. He also served as treasurer for the Town of Westfield for over forty years. Hank was a faithful member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. He enjoyed gardening, being in the out of doors and traveling to Puerto Rico, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Alaska and Hawaii. Survivors include his wife: Mary; two sons: Henry Todd (Aileen), of Casa Grande, Arizona and Andrew James (Brandi), of San Diego, California; three grandchildren: Victhoria, Scottie and Noah; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother: Duane. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, August 7, 2020 at St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Reedsburg with Pastor Paul Crolius officiating. Interment will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, rural Rock Springs. There will be a visitation from 4:00 P.M. on 7:00 P.M. on Thursday and after 10:00 A.M. on Friday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Reedsburg. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Lutheran Women’s Missionary League or to Orphan Grain Train would be appreciated. The Hoof Funeral Home is serving the family. |

She entered into Glory on September 3, 2020 at the age of 93. Maye accepted Christ as her personal Savior as a young girl. She attended Glenwood and Pleasant Elementary and graduated salutatorian from Beresford High School. She enlisted in the US Army Cadet Nurse Corps in 1944 and graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Sioux Valley Hospital School of Nursing in 1947. She worked in the Sioux Valley Surgery Department at the hospital after graduation. She married Deane Fahlberg at Brooklyn Evangelical Free Church in rural Beresford on September 24, 1948. They made their home on the family farm and raised five children. In 1966 Maye started working as a nurse at Bethesda Home in Beresford and was employed there for 26 years. Maye was a member of Brooklyn Free Church where she served in various music ministries. God blessed her with the ability to play piano music by ear and she utilized this talent to His Glory. Maye’s love of music was central to her life and the source of blessing to many. She sang in the church choir, did a lot of solo work and served as organist and pianist for too many services, weddings and funerals to count. Most evenings Maye would play the piano for Deane and when alone for the last 10 years playing was a great source of comfort for her. Maye was a long-term member of Beresford Musical Arts Club. She attended several Bible Study groups and her desire was always to live a life pleasing to God and to serve Him. Some of the precious memories are family vacations in northern Minnesota, traveling to Western Europe, visiting her mother’s childhood home in Ljungby, Sweden and touring Scandinavia. Among those who survive and who gratefully shared her life are her five children: Barbara McGehee of Brooklyn Park, MN, Frederick Fahlberg of Beresford, SD, Rebecca Fahlberg and Cynthia Toovi of Brooklyn Park, MN, Laurie (Mark) Spangler of Murray, NE and brother O. Wendell Holmes of Omaha, NE. Also surviving are grandchildren: Michael (Catherine) McGehee and David McGehee of Minneapolis, MN, Nick Fahlberg of Box Elder, SD, Lauren Olson of Sioux Falls, SD, Glenn (Rebecca) Spangler of Murray, NE, Ericka Spangler of Brighton CO and Gaël Toovi of Mpls, MN and great-grandchildren Paityn Maye Olson and Calvin Glenn Spangler. Maye was preceded in death by her beloved husband Deane, her parents, sisters Eva Rieger and Berniece Peterson, grandson-in-law Doug Olson, granddaughter Molly McGehee, daughter-in-law Debra Fahlberg and sons-in-law, Wade McGehee and Eden Toovi. A private funeral service will be held on Tuesday September 8, 2020 at Brooklyn Evangelical Free Church. A burial will be held later. |

Survivors include her fifteen children: John (Cindy); Tony (Pat); Dennis (Gail); Steve; Ed (Patti); Mark (Pam); Mary (Jim) Rogers; Jane (Dan) Hale; Joan (Bruce) Bryant; Cathy (Phil) Klein; Ann (Mike) Veith; Marty (Tonya); Rita Vondra; Caroline (John) Van Herwynen; Paul (Marilu); 39 grandchildren; 57great-grandchildren; two sisters: Joan Linden and Rita Baumhover; a brother, David (Adele) Houtakker; two sisters-in-law: Celina and Ruth Houtakker; a brother-in-law, Lloyd Nuxoll; many nieces and nephews. She was later employed at Ed’s Café, Taylor Café, Butterball Bakery, and J&B Restaurant. On June 1, 1938, she was united in marriage to Ambrose Brunton in Dubuque, IA. Adeline was employed at the Platteville High School as a cook for ten years, retiring in 1983. She was a member of the First English Lutheran Church in Platteville. Adeline enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, coloring, playing cards, and watching “Wheel of Fortune.” She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. Adeline will be greatly missed. Survivors include her children: Annette (John) Oellrich, New Prague, MN; Sam (Collene) Brunton, Austin, MN; Betty (Denny) Dartsch, Wisconsin Dells; Sandra (Scot) Harcus, Cuba City; Kathy Leahy, Rockton, IL; Mary (James) Gobrecht, Belmont; Deborah (John) Quinn, Roscoe, IL; Nancy (Steve) Weigel, Platteville; Sue (Neil) McKenna, Platteville; 23 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Adeline was preceded in death by her husband, Ambrose in 1994; her son, Arthur in 2016; two grandchildren, William and Tina Gobrecht; and a son-in-law, Jim Leahy in 2018. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 3, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at First English Lutheran Church in Platteville with Pastor Naomi Garber and Intern Pastor Jamie Reising officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Platteville. Family and friends may call on Thursday, January 2, 2020, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at First English Lutheran Church and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Tom had been diagnosed with brain cancer in September 2019 and he battled bravely against it. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 1, 2020 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Akron. Father Paul Bormann will celebrate Mass with Deacon Richard Port assisting. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Akron. Visitation with the family present will be 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Tom was born on Oct 18, 1948, to William and Regina Popken in Akron, Iowa. He attended school in Akron and Westfield. He graduated from Westfield High School in 1966. When Tom’s dad passed away in May of 1966, Tom helped his mother stay on the family farm a couple more years. On September 13, 1969 Tom was united in marriage to Sharon Ostermyer. To this union were born Matthew, Tracy, and Melissa. Tom worked for many years at Super Sweet Feeds in Le Mars, Iowa. In 1992, Tom moved to Chandler, Arizona and managed Arizona Grain Inc. in Casa Grande, Arizona until his retirement. He lived on an acreage for several years after moving to Arizona and loved to raise a few calves and work on mechanical things on his acreage. Even after moving back into the city, he was still a farm boy at heart. Tom was an active member of Chandler Elks Lodge for 13 years. He was also an active member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 91 Chandler for 10 years. He enjoyed the many friendships he made at both organizations. He became engaged to Tina Menefee in 2013. Tina and Tom loved to go camping in the mountains to escape the Arizona summer heat. Tom also loved spending time with his dogs, Boss and Runt and he enjoyed riding motorcycles. He is survived by his fiancé: Tina Menefee; children: Matthew Popken (Dawn Webb) of Estherville, IA, Tracy Popken (Carmen) of Sioux City IA, and Melissa (Kelly) Beltman of Hospers, IA; step daughter: Jenny (Michael) Miller of Maricopa, AZ; 8 grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Mackenzie, Kylah, Alan, Levi, Dylan, Samuel and Branden; 3 step grandchildren: Amaya, Lizzette, and Trey; two sisters: Barbara (Lyle) Ostermyer of Akron, IA and Betty (Jim) Kelley of Sioux Falls, SD; one brother: Bob Popken (special friend Lori Gale) of Akron, IA; and two nephews and one niece.
