Louis was born Jan. 14, 1913, in Roseberry, Idaho, to Englebert 'Bert' and Regina (Peters) Rupp. He later moved to Gresham and graduated from Gresham High School in 1930.

In 1936, he married Rose Mary Morgan. They moved to Hood River in 1945.

Louis was the owner of Hood River Box and Veneer in Odell, which manufactured tops and bottoms for the fruit packing industry of Oregon and Washington. He was active in the community and served in the school district, Camp Fire Girls and the 100 Club. He was a lifetime member of the Hood River Lodge of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.

Louis had a passion for fishing and traveled to TaWeel Lake in British Columbia, Canada, yearly for the past 56 years. In retirement, he traveled with the sister city ambassadors to Tsuruta, Japan.

His wife preceded him in death in 1998.

Survivors include his son, John Rupp of Milwaukie; daughter, Nancy Rupp Weber of Welches; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Anderson's Tribute Center is handling arrangements.

A Celebration of Life will be held for longtime Hood River resident Louis A. Rupp will be Saturday, February 28, 2009 at 1:00 PM at Anderson’s Tribute Center. Louis was born January 14, 1913 in Roseberry, Idaho and entered into rest on January 11, 2009 at his home in Hood River with the care of his family, hospice and private caregivers.

Louis was the owner operator of Hood River Box and Veneer in Odell, Oregon manufacturing tops and bottoms for the fruit packing industry of Oregon and Washington. He was active in the community serving the school district, Camp Fire Girls, Rotary, 100 Club, and especially the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks where he was a lifetime member of the Hood River Lodge. He enjoyed a passion for fishing, traveling to TaWeel Lake in British Columbia yearly for the past fifty-six years. In retirement he traveled with the sister-city ambassadors to Tsuruta, Japan.

Louis was married for sixty-two years to Rose Mary Morgan Rupp who preceded him in death in 1998. He is survived by his son John and his wife Roxanna of Milwaukie, Oregon and their sons Gregory and Chad and their daughter Suzanna Schoenfeld and her husband Lynn; daughter Nancy Rupp Weber and her husband Gary of Welches, Oregon and their daughters Amanda Welch and her husband William and Andrea Daret and her husband Arthur. Louis was a very proud great grandfather to Jocelynn Rupp, Madelyn and Maya Welch, Henry and Sydney Schoenfeld and Louis and Nathan Daret.

Private Entombment was held at Idlewilde Cemetery in Hood River, Oregon.
