Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Centralia, where military rites will be accorded by American Legion Dubuque Post 6. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

He was born on June 30, 1937, in Dubuque, son of Joseph and Adele (Heinz) Fens. He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School. He served in the Navy from 1956 to 1962 on the USS Robert L. Wilson.

He drove cement truck in Dubuque for many years. He worked for Dubuque Ready Mix and lastly for Molo Ready Mix.

He was a member of the Amvets Club where he served as past commander.

He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Surviving are his two sons, Rick (Kristie) Fens and Dan (Jodi) Fens and his former wife, Marie Capesius, all of Dubuque; eight grandchildren, Loegin, Ethan, Karrigan, Hunter, Mitchell, Mike, Aaron and Kirby; a sister, Rita Fens-Grobstick, of Texas; a sister-in-law, Cathy Fens, of Illinois; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Ronald Fens, on Nov. 23, 2008.

In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Leonard, and a daughter in infancy. Survivors are his wife; two sisters, Mrs. Melvin (Bertille) Walstead of Fulton, Mo. and Mrs. Kenneth (Amelia) Buhman of Council Bluffs and one brother, James Rupp of Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church in Cherokee. Rev. Ralph Reimhart will be the celebrant of the Requiem High Mass. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery at Cherokee.

He had a green thumb when it came to his gardening, but in recent years had trouble with his cumcumbers and his health.

Jim is survived by his wife of 62 years Marjorie; children Gregory Rupp of Richmond, TX, Deborah Rolek of Waukee, IA and Ann (Ted) Horn of Des Moines, IA; sister Amelia Buhman of Council Bluffs, IA; 11 grandchildren Rachel (Chris) Rolek Gorman, Mark Rupp, Alex (Erin) Rolek, Brian Rolek, Chris (Lindsey) Rupp, Brandon (Nichole) Rupp, Ashlee (Jonathan) Rupp Adams, Chuck Rolek, David Rolek, Eric Rolek and Jonathan Adams; and 7 great-grandchildren Jilliam Rupp, James Rupp, Marcus Rupp, Meredith Rupp, Elizabeth Adams, Shane Adams and Charlotte Adams.

Amelia is survived by her children, Kathleen (Richard) Kunasek of Phoenix, Arizona, Marilyn (Art) Marr of Omaha, Ronald (Laura Griffith) of Ingleside, Texas, Helen (Mike) Rittenmeyer of Iowa City, Iowa, Eileen (Ed) Churchill of Omaha, Jane (Dan) Gradoville of Council Bluffs, Dennis (Theresa) Buhman of Richmond, Virginia; 23 grandchildren, 44 great-grand children, 7 great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Ken was born January 21, 1918, in Clarksdale, Mo., to the late Oscar R. and Emma R. (Fischer) Buhman. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII, where he received 3 Bronze Stars. Ken married Amelia Rupp on November 12, 1941, in Cherokee, Iowa, and to this union seven children were born.

The Buhman family moved to Council Bluffs in 1956. Ken retired from the Illinois Central Railroad in 1979 as an engineer, after 34 years of service. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church; Knights of Columbus Council

#1045; Bishop Drumm 4th Degree Assembly #270, Chalice Club and Catholic Order of Foresters. Ken was a former leader for the Boy Scouts and Knights of Columbus Squires. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and bowling after his retirement.

Ken was preceded in death by his grandson, Patrick Rittenmeyer; brothers, Vincent and Melvin Buhman.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Amelia Buhman, of Council Bluffs; daughters, Kathleen Kunasek (Richard), of Phoenix, Ariz., Marilyn Marr (Art), of Omaha, Neb., Helen Rittenmeyer (Mike), of Iowa City, Iowa, Eileen Churchill (Ed), of Omaha, Jane Gradoville (Dan), of Council Bluffs; sons, Ronald Buhman, of Dallas, Texas, Dennis Buhman, of Richmond, Va; 23 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Verda McManus, of Clarksdale, Mo., Irma Lee Schieber, of Maryville, Mo., Rita McQuinn, of Stansberry, Mo; brothers, John Buhman (Nellie), Rev.
