Death23 April 2016William Alfred Tobin died on 23 April 2016 at age 89 William A. "Bill" Tobin, devoted husband to Mabel for 63 years until her passing in February 2015, father and grandfather, age 89, of Tennyson, passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 28, 1926, the son of F. Rickert and Bertha (Pluemer) Tobin. Bill enlisted in the United States Army in 1944, serving in the Philippines until his honorable discharge in 1946. On May 7, 1951, he married Mabel Udelhofen at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Dickeyville. Together they raised four children. Bill was employed at John Deere Dubuque Tractor Works for 34 years, retiring in 1984. He was also a charter member of the VFW Post No. 5276 of Potosi, a Village of Tennyson board member from 1972 until 1998, and a member and officer of the Catholic Knights Branch 42 for over 50 years. Bill was a "die hard" Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan his entire life (now the Cubs will have a little help to get to the World Series). He loved the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting on the Tobin farm that has been in the family since it was homesteaded in 1841. Bill's greatest joys were spending time with his family and his grandchildren, watching their sporting events, "tinkering" in the garage (there was nothing he couldn't fix or rivet together), having morning coffee with his Roadhouse buddies and Friday afternoons at Haverlands.

Those living to pay tribute and remember his wonderful ways are his four children: Rick (Kelly Bartell) Tobin, Tom (Pat) Tobin, Karla Tobin Leiser, Lori (Henry) Langkamp, all of Potosi; his grandchildren: Craig and Alison Tobin, Carl Leiser, Mitchell, Jacob, Sophie Langkamp, William Rickert Tobin, all of Potosi; Krista (Brian) Langkamp Hancock, Emily Langkamp, of Dubuque, IA; his sister, Marie (Carl) Vogelsberg, Tennyson; sister and brother-in-law: Stella Timmerman, Kieler; Wilfred (Junie) Udelhofen, Cassville; many other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife Mabel; siblings: John (Pauline) Tobin; Marvin (Emily) Tobin; Erma (Walt) David; brothers-in-law: Ralph Udelhofen; Merlin (Ruth) Udelhofen; Milt Vogelsberg; and Walt Timmerman.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson with Father Richard Leffler officiating. Burial with military honors was in St. Thomas Cemetery, Potosi. Family and friends called on Tuesday, April 26, 2016, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the church and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers, Bill would appreciate memorials given to SS Andrew-Thomas Catholic School. Martin Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Potosi is assisting the family.

Birth2 October 1874Anna Mary Joyce was born on 2 October 1874 at Winfield, Sauk, Wisconsin.
She was the daughter of Patrick E. Joyce and Mary Byrne.
Marriage23 October 1900Anna Mary Joyce married Dr. Francis Peter Daly, son of Patrick Daly and Jane Moran, on 23 October 1900 at Reedsburg, Sauk, Wisconsin.
Death10 July 1922Anna Mary Joyce died on 10 July 1922 at Reedsburg, Sauk, Wisconsin, at age 47 Seldom have the people of Reedsburg been called upon to mourn in a greater measure than they do now, in lamenting the death of Mrs.Daly. She was an ideal mother in a typical Reedsburg home. She was a faithful, consistent Christian beloved by the members of her church and others. She was active in the social affairs of our city and found time in the arduous duties of home life to be of some practical value and help to her neighbors and the community. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Joyce and their home was in the town of Winfield only a few miles distant from our city. Here Mary Anna grew to womanhood, attending the local school until seventeen years of age. Then she went to the college at Lemars, Iowa where she taught for a couple years. She then returned to Wisconsin and became an instructor in the Sauk County schools, teaching for some six years. She was married to Dr. F.P. Daly October 23, 1900. On coming to Reedsburg she at once took an active interest in all things educational and especially in those matters which touch the home life of the people of a community. She was the mother of five children, Francis, Jane, Zita, Mary Agnes and Patrick. The father and children were not only shocked but prostrated with grief upon the death of the wife and mother. The community was also pained to learn of her death. While she had not been well for several years, she so kept her ailment to herself that but few of her friends knew that there was anything wrong physically with her. After consulting with noted physicians in other cities it was at last determined that an operation for appendicitis was imperative, if she were to regain her health. The operation was performed at the Reedsburg Hospital on Thursday, July 6th. She seemed to rally for a few days and there was every hope of her early and complete recovery but complications which could not be prevented, set in and her death followed. The funeral was held last Thursday, the 13th, from the Sacred Heart Church. The pastor, Rev. Fr. Kiernan officiated assisted by a large number of other priests. Requiem solemn high mass was celebrated. The office of the dead was sung by fourteen priests. Father Kiernan gave the funeral sermon. Her former pastor, Rev. Dr. Condon came from LaCrosse and gave a talk Tuesday evening at the home but was obliged to return before the funeral. The funeral service was fitting and unusually impressive and was among the largest ever recorded in our city. The deceased was of a quiet, retiring, loving disposition, not caring for display, but carrying with her presence a feeling of friendliness to the extent not often manifested in other people. She will be missed in the home and in her circle of friends but the entire community mourns the departure of a faithful citizen. While she was mainly a home woman and a patient mother, her love for her neighbors and friend called her forth at various times to positions of public duty and interests. Especially was she active in her church and its numerous demands. She was a long time member of the Library Board and during the war was especially active as a member of the Womens Catholic League for War Work and Red Cross and other such community activities. The sympathy of the entire community and surrounding country is extended to the doctor and his family in this time of their great grief. The pall bearers were: Frank Kerrigan, Frank Carroll, Dr. Hanko, Martin Hickey, Henry Rowan and Henry T?. Among these who came from Baraboo to attend her funeral were: Mr. And Mrs. Martin Joyce, Dr. and Mrs. D.M. Kelley, Mrs. and Mr. S.G. Frazer and family, Mrs. Harlan Page, Dr. McGrath, Judge J. H. Hill, Carl DuBois, W.H. Ode and the Council No. 746 K of C. Attending from Kilbourne: Mary Conley, Mis McManman, Frank Kerrigan, Gaylord Carrol...1

Anna Sophia Schmidt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Folkert Schmidt, was born in Athens, Illinois, March 21, 1893. She was baptized during infancy as a member of her church. When but six years of age, her family moved to Akron and she thus was able to attend the public schools in this area. • On 16 November 1918 Nov. 16, 1918 Dear Iva,

Rec'd your letter and little did you expect you was sending it in a home with all the sorrow and changes we are having here. Leith's husband had the influenza but kept on working until he took cold in rain and died in a weeks time with pneumonia - Oct 20th 1918. Of course we must take her home, and at the time of his death she was sick in bed and I over them all the time. I escaped getting it until after he was buried about 3 days. Now Edgar - her oldest - is quite sick and I am to. But I haven't time to go to bed nor be sick. I began this some time ago and goodness knows when I can finish it. Edgar is so he can be around the house, but I have a very sore little finger on my right hand. They call it run around - is swollen twice its natural size and is very painful but that don't lay me aside from work. Leith expects to find work down town and leave the easy? part for me - to do the washing, ironing, cleaning - cooking sewing and mending to do for 5 - also keep the kids from the street and ect. Well hard work seems to be my luck but you don't know how I dread it, when I hear of a girl baby's death I think of my life and feel what a blessing for the child to have escaped such a life - and also know an innocent child is always saved. Well here goes another "whack" at it. My finger is some better but very painful yet. As I can't write with my left hand must make this letter short. Leith went to spend the night with a friend and Dad went shrimping and Edgar and I are alone. He is asleep. I am glad you are doing so well financially - hope you can get a home of your own. That is a splendid little picture of the baby and I guess the other one is Leith, although it doesn't look as she did 2 years ago. I am glad to get it anyway. I should say you did get a bargain on that bedding - wish we got one like it. My hand hurts to I'll stop and write a letter when it gets well. It's very warm and flowers are in bloom - grass is green. It's beautiful this time of year. How do you feel after the war? I was so glad and cried. Wonder when Bruce will come back.

    With love, Mother
